FPL Gameweek 2: Analysis of the key underlying statistics

Our Big Numbers piece returns for the new season as we take a look at the vast array of data available in our Members’ Area and present the eye-catching statistics that may be of interest.

We’re only one Gameweek into 2020/21, of course, and these articles will likely be of more use when we have a bigger data pool to draw from.

Still, there was enough of interest to warrant a cursory look at the Opta numbers from the weekend.

We’ve run down the stand-out figures in every position, as well as looking at the strengths and weaknesses of various teams to assess which Fantasy Premier League assets could shine in Gameweek 2.

With this feature using stats from our Premium Members Area, only subscribers can read on.

Those wishing to sign up to our site and continue reading, as well as see a list of the benefits that Membership brings, can do so by clicking here.

Dubble up on Everton with James+DCL or go Richarlison with Trossard?

Love Trossard as an option, but think the former duo is better.

    Thoughts on Dele...
    1) Didn’t travel = Non-issue. 5 games in 10 days, imagine plenty of players staying behind.
    2) Rumors = they are rumors with little weight.
    3) Spurs looked better with him in there, Jose is stubborn but will likely start him Sunday.
    4) Unless it’s James or you have money in the bank, no obvious transfers for me.
    5) if you are fine with a .1 drop, he has every chance of returning against Southampton, who are largely worse defending at home.
    6) Historically, and through the away day wonders table in seasons past, Dele seems to do better away from home.

and 7) I fancy his replacements a lot more next week - Foden, Mahrez, Podence, Pulisic, etc. We will know so much more after this week.

He scores that goal, Pickford doesn't make a great save, he's good for 3-4 more weeks as an option. But yes I agree, something was going to happen 🙂

      8) He had a bustup with Mourinho leading to talks of offloading him to Real Madrid. He's frozen out of the team until he trains better/presses better.

Honestly, I'm not optimistic here. Getting hooked at half time is a bad sign. All the press conferences suggest something isn't right at Spurs. When Mourinho made a real tactical change to take off Dier last year, he went all out with apologizing to the player publically and backing him etc.

He did none of that this time and he said his team were lazy. He didn't outright name the player, but it's pretty clear who because he took him off the field. The team's lack of possession led to them having no control of the game in the first half and Alli is to blame for not being more effective at pressing Allan and Doucoure.

Yes- Eye test can see Wolves are strong with these fixtures post City and with Allen who is a quality central defender Everton will be strong in defence and James will provide a lot of scoring opportunities - again perfect run of fixtures.

that isnt really sound reasoning to pick the best player from the three.
James plays a different position for a start. So the best pick will be dependant on team structure.

Richarlison looked really dangerous but was on the left.
DCL less so but plays centrally and will get the close up chances. Rebounds etc.

Theres also Digne to consider as well. On set pieces from the left side.

I like all picks but just depends on where you can fit them in and how much you can spare.

        1. Amey
          • 5 Years

          Thanks !
Appriciate your response. I was looking at Digne but now cooling my interest. Will get Coleman after few GW's if he's nailed. No attacker. They all are wasteful IMO.

Do you like Doucoure ?? Think he's an FPL option ??

          1. The 12th Man
            • 10 Years
            3 years, 6 months ago

Im actually considering Doucoure as my 5.5m spot but that would mean a triple up with Digne,Rodriguez and Doucoure. He did create a few chances and could have more of a free role against an easier team than Spurs.

Its between Klich,Harrison,Podence and Douc . Not decided yet. I hope Podence is nailed with those fixtures.

Coleman looks nailed for now. Just watch the transfer market.

              • 5 Years
              3 years, 6 months ago

I'm possibly in for a 5.5 if Pulisic is AWOL again.
So ... podence is a great option isn't he. Jota is direct threat although.
I'm keen on Harrison & Doucoure

Never understood why WCers just don’t activate at the last minute. All the trades would count in that case.

Like it a lot. No Chelsea might hurt but I can understand why you haven’t picked any.. Some might criticise having 3 big hitters in midfield, but you’re only two trades away from downgrading one
      and upgrading a striker/defender.

Would prefer one Pool defender. Only option would be loss Wilson for Podence. And bring in VVD or Robbo for Digne ?

I wouldn’t want to lose digne, maybe Laporte. It’s tricky, I’m on WC too but after my disastrous gw1 I’m doubting my every decision. I’m still on TAA in mine at present.

Thoughts on this lot please. Saka feels like the priority to address; FPL Statistics suggesting he drops in price tonight...

    Ryan
    TAA, Bavies, Justin
Salah, Auba (C), Bruno (VC), Saka
    Timo, Adams, Mitro
    Bench: Steer, KWP, Bissouma, Mitchell

    A) Do nothing
    B) TAA + Saka -> Saiss + Greenwood + £0.5m
    C) Saka -> Podence, Neto, Doucoure or Jorginho
    D) Something else!

    1. Hospital Pass

      A) That team should survive week 2 in good shape and leaves you a mini wildcard for week 3 once we have at least some City/Utd data. B) means getting rid of TAA which is super-hasty, C) means 0 points upgrades to 2 (most weeks, surely).

Yes. They are all really bad this season. i am thinking Leno for 5.0 but Arsenal has pretty bad fixtures. Otherwise the Dea for 5,5 looks good with those fixtures. Any other ideas of goalkeeper options?

If Villa can build off their defensive form after the restart, I think Emi could be a good play. Although, as a Villa fan, I do realize that clean sheets are not something that we have been able to comfortably achieve since promotion 🙁

No one knows. I don’t think he will personally. He has betrayed the team or offended Ole. His punishment if you like was to be sent home early and humiliated in the media. If anything Ole plays him and tells him the way to turn it around in (cliche coming) to score goals. Which is true

Does James Rodriguez play deep? Is he more of an assisting the assist player?

    1. Hospital Pass
      • 6 Years
      3 years, 6 months ago

That's the fear but the Spurs game just isn't enough data. He was playing deep against Spurs, but Richarlison's finishing was particularly wayward, and Hames picked him out several times. Also, Spurs gave Hames time and space, and even West Brom might make him feel more unwelcome.

    2. TheBrazilianRonaldo
      • 5 Years

Nope he’s more of a passing machine, so both. I think he’s a safe bet for 10-15 assists over season
