Manchester clubs return in Sky Sports Fantasy Football as City face Monday fixture

Another Gameweek in Sky Sports Fantasy Football is upon us and all eyes are on the two Manchester clubs, who play their first Premier League games of the campaign.

But it is worth recruiting the services of any of their players?

Kevin De Bruyne (£11.5m) is the most expensive midfield asset in the game and rather fittingly accrued more points than any other player in Sky last season.

Bruno Fernandes comes in at £10.9m and was in the points himself after signing for Manchester United, tallying 129 from his debut onwards (more than any other player from that point up until the end of the term).

Their percentage selections emphasise the above points, currently standing at 45.5% and 30.6% respectively. De Bruyne’s ownership is most probably higher due to the fact that Manchester City play their first game on Monday night against Wolves, with the only other fixture of choice that day being Aston Villa against Sheffield United.

This creates the perfect captaincy choice for this game day, and fear not if you do not currently have the Belgian in your side.

 1

One of the quirks of Sky Sports Fantasy Football is the fact that you can allow players to play on a particular day and rack up their points, before transferring them out for another player to perform the following day, allowing managers to maximise their points potential.

De Bruyne does provide the better option of the two, but even the likes of Marcus Rashford (£10.5m) or Antony Martial (£10.0m) could be tempting considering United’s first three fixtures before you are allowed to make unlimited changes in the Overhaul: Crystal Palace, Tottenham and Brighton.

Bringing one of these stars in does come at a cost. You must budget accordingly and it does mean that you may eat into your first of 40 transfers, which will remain at that number until the end of the campaign.

The Overhaul comes into play after Gameweek 4, so there is no need to panic or rush with your transfers just yet. In a short time, you can utilise as many as you like.

On the Lookout?

As you well know, it would be pretty impossible to fill your Sky Sports Fantasy Football XI with players from both Manchester City and Manchester United, but at least there are options emerging on the radar elsewhere.

Marcal – £6.3m

Marcal got off to a perfect start in a Wolves shirt, contributing to his side’s clean sheet in their 2-0 away victory at Sheffield United. As mentioned previously, you do not have to make any changes before the Overhaul, but the left-back does provide a decent captaincy option for the game on Monday night.

After the clash against Manchester City, Wolves face four winnable fixtures in West Ham, Fulham, Leeds and Newcastle, either side of the Overhaul period, proving a potential cheap pick at just £6.3m for both short and long-term planning. His price is by far the cheapest from any of the Wolves’ backline.

Jack Grealish – £8.5m

It has been quite the week for Jack Grealish. From earning his first England cap to signing a new five-year contract and scoring against Burton in the same day, Grealish was a surprise announcement to most Villa fans.

What this does give the capacity for him to do is really kick on, perfect for Fantasy Football managers. He will begin his Premier League season against Sheffield United, also on Monday evening, which could mean another captaincy choice may be needed to make.

Grealish scored on eight occasions and created six more goals for Aston Villa last season, which was invaluable to his side maintaining their Premier League status. Their fixtures are generous, particularly post-Overhaul, facing off against Leeds, Southampton, Arsenal, Brighton, West Ham and Newcastle.

Points could begin to flow in abundance for the Villa skipper.

You know what - if I was just a casual playing, didn’t come on here or overthink, I’d see:

Hames played great, big threat. Good fixture run, gives me an extra 0.5
Alli hauled off at HT, potential rift with Mou, Spurs looking pretty woeful, and probs less nailed

Kinda puts it in a better light then ifs buts and maybes, even with the hit involved?

Casual by definition don’t spend long thinking about the game and get bad ranks.

So if you want to think like a casual and get bad ranks then carry on

Why are you against the move? Saw your comment on the last page too. Was anything I said wrong?

And yes obviously most casuals will rank pretty low, but you’re missing the point a bit, or maybe I was unclear. In seasons past I like I’m sure many others on here have, have gotten too caught up in second guessing and overthinking moves to the point where I seem to always go the wrong way in a 50/50. Sometimes better to just look at the facts laid out and make a choice quicker

I just personally think it’s extremely knee jerk

Spurs have great fixtures and are playing Southampton next who don’t appear good defensively.

Games has played 1 game is an unknown quantity in the Premier League and as an FPL asset

Add a -4 into the mix and I can’t see the reward worth the risk

But that’s just me. You do what you think is best as it’s your team

You’re right - and it could fail to payoff this week even disregarding the hit.

But long term I see Hames being more nailed at the very least. Lo Celso a big threat to Alli

Exactly. Lots of tendency to overthink and get too fancy.

I'm one of the most guilty of it. But for all my posturing, in the end, I think when it comes to making a decision for my team, I can separate the wheat from the chaff.

This transfer looks extremely good on paper. I'm not worried about it failing.

Yeah. Even if it backfires this week, surely barring injury Hames looks good to be more nailed and then probably outscore Alli in the long run.

        We can hope!

Leeds played great and Bamford scored. Good fixture run and gives me an extra 3m ITB. Ings blanked against Palace and Saints are in disarray

      So Ings ->. Bamford -4?

Idiotic and not really the same. Ings 22 goals last year, bit of a blip at the start though I’ll likely sell him soon too, but to get a Manc player.

Meanwhile Leeds get 3G from an xG of something like 0.3 and a few LIV mistakes. Bamford scores - good for the lad, who normally couldn’t hit a barn door.

Alli been off it for a while, I just took a gamble on them picking it up this season, seems to be wrong. Meanwhile Hames is a quality player, better imo despite also having a few years totting about, and is now more nailed and playing in an improving team under possibly his favourite coach - and an attacking coach at that, compared to Jose.

If you’re gonna chat sh!t, you’ll have to do better than that.

You are missing the point entirely

It’s your team - if you want to do Alli -> Hames -4 go for it!

I know - I wouldn’t do it or not do it because others want me to or don’t. I just was looking to gather feedback based on the points of reasoning I had.

Which point exactly am I missing? Pretty sure I just dismantled any likeness you tried to place between Alli to JRod and Ings to Bamford lol (and I know that was just a hypothetical, but it’s the one you used)

Had you used Ings to Wilson for example, that’d be more compelling. Both decently proven FPL quantities, one’s team has started better. But still probably too soon to call definitely. It’s what you do with the saved money as well. For me it could help bring in a Manc

Hames isn’t a proven FPL quantity just like Bamford

Leeds have started better than Southampton just like Everton have started better than Spurs.

Yes alright he’s not “Prem proven” but he’s at least 3x the player Bamford is lol.

Do you think Bamford outscores Ings over the season? I’d say good chance Hames outscores Alli in all honesty

      I think it's a sweet spot here

Overthinking has led me to bad ranks before, and casuals do tend to go for a lot of right choices but in the end lack differentials and often go for in form players

I think spending som time with stats and eye test and then go for the "objectively" right choice is best and season this with the occational punt etc.

Alli --> James/Podence whoever seem good atm with Spurs not looking good since long before Poch left

I also think that taking hits in the early stages is the better hits to take as both value and points will be rewarded

      1. Top Lad Dakes.
        • 7 Years
        3 years, 6 months ago

Good input mate, cheers. I agree re early hits - while it’s more out of your total points at this stage, you also have more time to let it pay off, or to rectify it

            • 8 Years
            3 years, 6 months ago

Fair, my point was that not much separate casuals from the others at this stage

A lot of so called pro's used preseason as a guide, even though we all know that preseason doesn't matter...(e.g. Salahs form etc.)

A lot of pros had Spurs defence and a mid, and we all knew who is their manager and that they have been poor for years now

So even if Alli-->James is a move a lot of casuals do, It's not by default a bad one 🙂

Who do you see as the ‘pick now and keep all season’ premium mid out of auba and Salah?

      Currently have

      Ryan
      KWP Coady TAA Taylor Mitchell
      Auba KDB Fernandes Soucek Bissouma
      Werner Ings Davis

I swapped in Salah for KDB for GW2, as I had planned, as soon as transfers were ope as wanted to avoid any price hikes. So had no idea how either had played, did it on blind faith and cold planning

This was always the plan but now having regrets about not swapping auba for KDB. Suppose the West Ham game in GW2 was playing on my mind. Aaaanyways, who’s the keeper, Auba or Salah?

My 3 options. What do we think?

      a) Havertz to Bruno
      b) Havertz and Mitrovic > Rashford and Calvert Lewin (-4)
      c) Havertz and Mitrovic > James Rodriguez and Martial (-4)

      Is Mitro still first choice?

Seems strange that he plays 90 tonight despite not playing in the Playoff final or in GW1.

Maybe he’s not in Parker’s plans?

McCarthy wasn’t a transfer I was hoping to start planning but this is woeful. And yes, Brentford are no push overs but neither are Spurs, Burnley and so on.

You know what? For the past 2 seasons I've been guilty of ignoring my gut instinct in favour of 'playing it professionally' and it just isn't as fun. Ings to Martial it is!

Exactly! In my first season (12/13, the Michu Year) I was taking -4s every other week and I still managed to somehow finish in the top 100k. Impulsive transfers FTW

More goal threat, and Marcal was quite reserved getting forward the other night. Hardly touched the ball in the final third, which I reckon was tactical.

He plays as a wing-back like Doherty, but on the other side, in place of Jonny who is injured.
