How FFS Hall of Fame leader and Virtual FPL champion is lining up for Gameweek 2

Current Fantasy Football Scout Hall of Fame leader, Fábio Borges has finished inside the top 5k in each of the last five seasons, and even won 2020’s inaugural edition of Virtual FPL.

After an intense Fantasy season in 2019/20, I decided I needed a longer break than usual in order to come back stronger.

Not only was Project Restart a hectic return to something resembling normality, the lockdown period was defined by my involvement in Virtual FPL – which threw four Gameweeks per week at us for nearly two months.

Pretty exhausted from all of that, I only started tinkering my FPL team for 2020/21 a few days before the Gameweek 1 deadline, which I think actually helped me. It made sure I was able to avoid overthinking and countless outdated drafts.

So, the first Gameweek went great for me with 82 points, which means I’m currently 231k in the World. Even more important than that, none of my players got injured or red carded and, other than a few small concerns, my starting 11 still looks in good shape going forward.

Without further ado, here is my team and what I’m thinking ahead of Gameweek 2.

From GW3 I'd expect both Mahrez and Foden be higher up the pecking order and to get more minutes with Aguero out and Dilva gone. Viable strategy to get both in and balance out the rotation risk?

Problem is there’s a fair chance that they’d be subbed on if they don’t start

Mahrez still had one of the best PPG and value last season, and his consistency gives me hope

175 points from 33 matches (21 starts and 12 subs). 5.3 ppg. The amount of subs worries me although he could start more often with no Dilva

Ah cheers, I'm seriously considering it at least while Aguero is out and the bench looks ok. Covid strikes so the bench needs to be sorted anyway

Would have said Taylor no doubt before midweek but him starting in the cup could be a bad sign.

Justin will be out of the team soon after the IB, Pieters might keep Taylor out from the off.

As in overperforming in his xG from last season, which many were long range strikes. His assists will always be there but was thinking Sterling would be a good shout, tap-in merchant that he is

        1. Scratch

Prefer Sterling as a flat track bully - Leeds coming up so i'll be choosing him first. But think KDB's the better pick overall... imagine he'd had penalties all of last season too.

    3. Brosstan
      • 9 Years

Kdb is a lot better than sterling. You will see people quoting Sterling's post restart stats but sterling is a known bottler. He only does well when there's no pressure on. Thats why he did better when the season was over and nothing to play for.

So only does well end of the season, only if nothing to play for? Had a hat trick GW1 last season when there were lots of games ahead and nothing close to being decided - seems a good time to me with no Aguero and attacking responsibilities

        1. Brosstan
          • 9 Years

Yes and then he was garbage for a long period while the team performed sub par. He never pulls the team up to the next level, only plays well when they are flying. The whole Gomez debacle last season shows how poorly he reacts when things don't go his way.

Short term the factors don't line up because there's pressure on city and thats when sterling doesn't perform

When I said 'had a hat trick GW1 last season when there were lots of games ahead and nothing close to being decided'... my point was the pressure is less at the start of the season as plenty of time to put it right, more so than any other point of the season, and proved with his good start to last season

Podence was probably worth a punt before the Jota news, well clear now.

      Can't see it, needs injuries.

Tierney LB, AMN LWB, Willian/Pepe RW all ahead of him.

Could do, chops and changes a lot.

Wouldn’t bet on it though and would probably lose him.

Odds on Lampard playing a game with Pulisic's fitness?

Seems injury prone so very doubtful.

Stupid to risk an injury prone player so early on in the season

41m according to the Guardian. The world has gone insane unless Klopp feels Firmino is done.

With the Afcon set to go ahead, both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are expected to be absent for some time.
with Jota joining, the forward can be utilised to somewhat soften the blow that Liverpool are set to take.
