Greenwood and Wan-Bissaka benched as Man United host Palace

Mason Greenwood (£7.5m) finds himself on the bench as Manchester United start their Premier League campaign a week late.

The 18-year-old was a fixture on the right-hand side of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attacking midfield trio during Project Restart, but his place has been handed to Daniel James (£6.5m) today.

The Manchester United boss has made two surprising decisions on the right-hand side of the pitch as Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£5.5m) loses out to Timothy Fosu-Mensah (£4.5m) in defence.

Outside of that, the Red Devils line up mostly as we would expect. Anthony Martial (£9.0m) leads the line, supported by Marcus Rashford (£9.5m) on the left and Bruno Fernandes (£10.5m) in the number 10 role.

There will be plenty of eyes on those two players as Jan Sienkiewicz pointed out in the most recent captaincy article that Crystal Palace have shown some weakness from set pieces and down their right flank in open play.

Roy Hodgson’s men arrive at Old Trafford in their traditional 4-4-2 formation, Wilfried Zaha (£7.0m) once again deployed out of position as a centre-forward alongside Jordan Ayew (£6.0m).

Budget defender Tyrick Mitchell (£4.0m) keeps his place in the side at left-back, although the defensive injury crisis at Palace eases slightly with the return of Mamadou Sakho (£4.5m) at centre-back.

Manchester United XI (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Shaw, Maguire, Lindelöf, Fosu-Mensah; Pogba, McTominay; Rashford, B Fernandes, D James; Martial.

Crystal Palace XI (4-4-2): Guaita; Mitchell, Sakho, Kouyaté, J Ward; Schlupp, McCarthy, McArthur, Townsend; Zaha, Ayew.

      Tough to say, really...

Probably Jamez I reckon. DCL scored a hat-trick and still only ended up with 5 more points than Jamez.

James got an assist today and provided the passes for five of Richarlison’s seven shots last week. I think he’ll do alright.

Real shame on how Shaqiri has deteriorated since being at Liverpool. Watched him play for Stoke and he was far too good for us. Understand him wanting to join Liverpool but he must of realises he was never going to start. Such a waste of a talent and most likely Jota will go the exact same way.

Yes, see that too. Would understand that he went to A large club to be sub/backup if he was 32, but his career is on the rise. Do Pool Think Mane or Salah will go during the next 1-2 transfer windows?

      • 9 Years

I kind of understand, but it isn't too easy to find a player that accepts the bit-part role as back-up of that front three, is young and of the required quality to fill in in case of injury or tiredness.
Sarr was also mentioned, but I see him as a prospect which requires more time to develop. Jota is already more rounded as a footballer.

I thought Chelsea played with 3 centre backs with Azpi at Right Centre Back but if Lampard prefers a 4-4-2 then I can see James dropping I guess.

We play 4-3-3 or 4231 as base sometimes 3-4-3 with wingbacks but not preferred formation

Don't think he will be nailed, but as long as he plays the easy games, and Azpi the harder games, I'm happy to own James.

The stats suggest that KDB greatly outperformed last season while Sterling underperformed. I think this season will be much closer between them in points, so I think I'm going Raz for the differential.
Definitely not a strategy for the faint of heart though!

similar to what I have right now. Would drop Werner for Jimenez's tasty fixtures though and just keep a mil spare.

tripling Everton doesn't sound right but I'm tempted.

I think a double will cover it. James and DCL

Thinking I'm not gonna bring in any City players next week, don't see any reason why Auba can't do as well as KDB/Sterling even though he's at Anfield. Got a couple of other issues to take care of first

with all the decent cheap striking options, if you time it right, you could average 4.5/5 PPG for a 6.5 slot. Don't see why you would give that up

Of all the 4.5 defenders I went and picked Vinagre & Ayling.

      Hmmmmmmm

Vinagre at 4.4 on my bench doesn't get any better the more I look at it.

Might just go all in on Mitchell and hope for the best
