Scoutcast Episode 345 – Is Kevin De Bruyne a must-have for FPL Wildcarders?

After a torrid Gameweek 2, Joe and Az had one request to video manager Andy when booking a guest for this week’s Scoutcast edition: “Please don’t invite anyone on with a great score this week.”

With a chuckle, the Let’s Talk FPL host promptly booked Karam, who managed to rack up 89 points in Gameweek 2 – more than our Scoutcast co-hosts’ combined scores.

Not only did Karam score well, he did it with an unusual squad, featuring triple Liverpool defence to allow him to make room in midfield and attack for his beloved Manchester City.

The likes of Kevin De Bruyne (£11.5m), Raheem Sterling (£11.5m) and Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m) take centre stage in this latest episode after Pep Guardiola’s troops impressed against Wolves. Can they do the same against Leicester this weekend?

Meanwhile, there are plenty of Wildcards being deployed among the FPL Community this week. The Scoutcasters imagine they are using this precious chip this week and try to conjure up the perfect team for Gameweek 3 and beyond.

De Bruyne understandably is the first name on their teamsheet. Even the ‘essential’ tag is mentioned a few times regarding the Belgian, who played in a more attacking role for City at Molineux.

Elsewhere, the return to Tottenham of Gareth Bale (£9.5m) is discussed. Is he a nostalgia pick or a genuine contender for FPL managers’ midfields?

This latest episode is also packed with the usual features, with an extended rough with the smooth round-up of the community’s tales of woe and joy. This includes some of the worst scores ever seen on the Scoutcast and the story of an astute five-year-old, who is heading towards the summit of the overall rankings.

‘Next four’ fixture gems are looked at and Karam takes his turn to pick a differential to help managers in the doldrums turn around their fortunes.

Joe and Az could certainly do with some luck.

    Team for GW3

    McCarthy
    TAA / Saiss / Robertson / Digne
    Salah (C) / Podence / Son
    Jimenez / Mitrovic / Calvert-Lewin (VC)

    Bench: Steer, ASM, Ferguson, Gordon

I have 4m left, do i bring in De Bruyne for Son for a -4 hit or do i wait until week 4?

You’ve gone too big at the back imo. Digne > 4.0 and ASM > KDB. Maybe hold this week but eventually make that move

You’re thinking of taking a hit to remove the guy who just scored 4 goals and is playing at home against the team that just made Brighton look like Brazil?! Son’s my captain this week

      It’s bad sorry buddy
      I would want
      Saiss for Dunne
Soucek + Burke both need upgrading
I would downgrade Werner and get in Zaha + Jrodz

    A) Zaha, DCL
    B) J Rod, Wilson

Im not convinced DCL will keep it up looking at stats but Zaha is out of position and attractive

Mitro's a poor choice imo- all about Physicality and needs good players around him. Mings is more than capable of over-powering him and Fulham's options besides Cairney are far different to what they were a couple of years ago.

Richi and Zaha? To me Richi looks the most dangerous out of the 3 forwards.

Richi's a trap, picked him on WC last week and was disappointed, despite the assists. Playing much wider than under Silva and won't haul unless he comes up against a defence like Southy.

I like that pick but i cant work it into my existing team, I could downgrade Fernandes but I'm sticking with him as I think he'll come good (with pens at worst) and those that flogged him will regret it, also a very easy price to transfer from

I was in the same boat and went Zaha. Seem equally attractive options to me so went for the one that saved me half a million. His good fixtures last slightly longer than J Rod’s too

A bc Zaha is such a strong option as you have recognised. Wilson is reliable 11-12 goals but I think defenders are going to wise up to Hamez cutting inside and having a pop eventually.

Ive lost the article now but Richi had more attempts on goal etc, DCL was just fortunate enough to convert, im also very wary of players that bang one week as they will either continue banging them or blank for 5 weeks, there never seems to be an in between

leaning towards no Son at this point and having Hames for that 7.5-8.5 price point.

    Couple of quick questions

    1) Is Reece James nailed?
    2) Any viable 4m def candidates? if PVA is back post intl break, no point getting Mitchell for two gw's
    3) Having Podence and Foden on a WC too much gametime risk?

    1. Miguel Sanchez
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member
      • 7 Years

      1) No - Azoi always an option
      2) I went Ferguson with a view to the long term
      3) It's a bit risky but they could offer exceptional value

    2. stat sifter 888888
      • 3 Years

      1) James is first-choice but Azpi could still play some games.

      2) Dunne/maybe Buur on a Mitchell basis if Vinagre doesn't get it and until Marcal/Jonny come back.

      3) Imo yes unless you have v. good bench options.

i wasnt suprised to see that B is more popular, but im leaning to A with sideways placeholders.

i just think that A will form the basis of the wk4 wc template, whilst B is focused on the wk2 template.

by that point the key themes dictating the template being
      - Double wolves defence rather than double wolves attack (they dont score that much!)
      - Are the Liverpool defenders really worth that much (the answer is, it depends on your time horizon!)
      - A loss of patience in Werner and a rush to draft in Pulisic (probably after some wonderous cameo)

All good options, so Lord only knows. But I will add that Salah has had two goal involvements in each of his last 3 home matches against Arsenal. A brace last year, and a goal and assist in each of the previous two.
Having said that, this could easily be the match that Werner announces his presence in the EPL with a bang, but I don't have any good stats to back that up other than WBA is atrocious defensively.

Sarr was left out the team this week, it looks like he might going. Man UTD have him as a Sancho replacement, embarrassing.

Could cause the entire front three to become rotation prone due to their versatility.

Sarr is just a Senegalese version of James smh

Bailey/Diaby from Leverkusen would have been a much cheaper options imo. Loads of proven Prem options like Traore, Son,

    Help me with WC

    Ryan - Steer

    Lamptey - James - Mitchell - Saiss - 4,5

    Salah - KDB - Son - J.Rodriguez- Podence

    atack 1: DCL - Mitro - Jimenez
    atack 2: Werner - Jimenez - 4,5

    1) Defense for 4.5?

    2) Atack 1 or 2?

So many wildcard teams look exactly like those on YouTube fpl channels.
What's the point in playing fpl if you just copy someone else each week.

So tempted to go Havertz > Son (-4)

The only thing stopping me is Chelsea play WBA

    Shall I take the hit?

    Yep / nope

How's the WC team looking. Torn between Salah, Mane and Sterling to partner KDB

    Martinez
    VVD, Digne, Saiss
    KDB Mane Foden Podence
    Werner DCL Jimenez

    Steer C. Taylor, Ferguson, Anguissa

    Any obvious moves/changes?

Salah. Digne > Lamptey and upgrade Foden imo

No one knows for sure until they get one.

I think it's between Richarlison and Hot Rod.
