Scoutcast Episode 345 – Is Kevin De Bruyne a must-have for FPL Wildcarders?

After a torrid Gameweek 2, Joe and Az had one request to video manager Andy when booking a guest for this week’s Scoutcast edition: “Please don’t invite anyone on with a great score this week.”

With a chuckle, the Let’s Talk FPL host promptly booked Karam, who managed to rack up 89 points in Gameweek 2 – more than our Scoutcast co-hosts’ combined scores.

Not only did Karam score well, he did it with an unusual squad, featuring triple Liverpool defence to allow him to make room in midfield and attack for his beloved Manchester City.

The likes of Kevin De Bruyne (£11.5m), Raheem Sterling (£11.5m) and Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m) take centre stage in this latest episode after Pep Guardiola’s troops impressed against Wolves. Can they do the same against Leicester this weekend?

Meanwhile, there are plenty of Wildcards being deployed among the FPL Community this week. The Scoutcasters imagine they are using this precious chip this week and try to conjure up the perfect team for Gameweek 3 and beyond.

De Bruyne understandably is the first name on their teamsheet. Even the ‘essential’ tag is mentioned a few times regarding the Belgian, who played in a more attacking role for City at Molineux.

Elsewhere, the return to Tottenham of Gareth Bale (£9.5m) is discussed. Is he a nostalgia pick or a genuine contender for FPL managers’ midfields?

This latest episode is also packed with the usual features, with an extended rough with the smooth round-up of the community’s tales of woe and joy. This includes some of the worst scores ever seen on the Scoutcast and the story of an astute five-year-old, who is heading towards the summit of the overall rankings.

‘Next four’ fixture gems are looked at and Karam takes his turn to pick a differential to help managers in the doldrums turn around their fortunes.

Joe and Az could certainly do with some luck.

I keep trying to get a team with Werner up top but then Son goes. You think better off with Werner over Son? I expect alot of people have the same issue. Werner is also a better place holder I guess.

      Adams + Foden > Brewster + Zaha/Jrodz imo £ITB for Son > United or jimi > Werner/Martial

Thanks. If I do Adams to Brew and Jimi to Werner I'm 0.1 short of Foden to Zaha. You think it's worth downgrading Taylor to Cooper (4.4) to get Zaha in?

Sorry, as you said before I guess. Brewster and Zaha in for adams and Foden. Who you reckon best pick? Zaha, JRod, Greenwood?

I'd be wary of having both Podence and Foden in your team.

Costa to Wolves seems iminent (taking Podence's place) and Foden isn't guarenteed minutes at all.

Would also much prefer Mitro over Adams for at least the next 6 games - can then move to the best 6.5 forward for form and fixtures after by downgrading Son to an 8.5 when his fixtures swing.

I'm 0.1 short of Mitro unfortunately so would need to downgrade elsewhere. I agree with concerns over Foden and Podence game time though.

Lamptey should be in there ahead of Taylor. Burnley don't have their two best CBs and just let in 4 against Leicester.

B for sure except Podence instead of Foden and invest that money somewhere else, Guaita has nice fixtures, TAA because hes TAA, Zaha is playing out of position as a striker in 442, Foden is a higher rotation risk now Jota is gone.

We honestly don't know. Need to see them play a proper game together. United were horrible in that palace display. Just scrambling for a goal without any tactics

              • 3 Years

VdB's best position is at #10 playing as a second striker and reports say that's the role Ole promised for him, I see no reason why Fernandes dropping deeper won't change, despite the 20 minute sample size. I recall the FPL Wire boys talking about it too, saying that it seemed like Ole would give him that position when he played.

Of course it's one match, but I believe the prediction is a reasonable one.

Sure but that's Fernandes' best position too. They can both play CM and CAM. So yes it's a reasonable prediction but we still don't know.

United didnt do well in the first game. People get kneejerky. Plus a lot of other options as well so i guess no one wants to risk having him if they don't do well again.

Reason why he shouldn’t be in most teams: he’s vastly overpriced at 10.5m based on his expected output.

Reason why he isn’t in most teams: Man Utd played badly in GW2 and didn’t get any penalties.

Dyche likes to stick with a defensive line who are on a good run of stable defensive displays so its completely dependant on how the team performs until players come back from injury. But Tarkowski is nailed in for Dunne.

I only like Black Box. Theres too many people on most of them, the "Two people talking back and forth" is a much better format than people being interviewed with pre set questions or 3+ people fighting for attention.

Also I like that Mark is somewhat of a maverick while still being great manager. Most people are either tedious dullards who end up with template picks every week, or bad managers making stupid punts.

imo, FML FPL is the best podcast out there, followed by the new Blackbox. In third is the FPL General one (shorter format, more concise)

I feel three is enough, otherwise you can go over board on the content and it takes over a bit. Only so many podcasts you can cram in a week

aye, soucek seems like a fine first bench guy (even with bad fixtures) and a nice hold for a long time

    A) Martinez + Mitchell + Bamford (already have Costa)
    or
    B) Guaita + Lamptey + Brewster

Leeds aren't going to score as freely as they have done and there's no 2 or 3 players that are guaranteed to be involved if they do, do definitely would avoid a Leeds double up.

Giving serious consideration to going with 5 budget defenders this season. The picks of the sub 5m options at the back this season seem particularly good, and sufficient cover can easily be bought on a good budget.

Im greek so Im watching a lot of Greek Superleague and I have to say that all this joy for Podence is too much! This player may be impressive watching him play but believe me... he will never score goals. And when I say never i mean he will score 0-1 gls in the next 5 easy fixtures for wolves. Ok he got some assists but this will not continue as Wolves are not a proven attacking team. By the time Semedo is into Wolves lineup, we will probably see a Podence/Neto Jimenez Traore attacking three which will lower Podence's involvement even more imo...

Well, you may have better eye test on him, but from what I've been watching last year in Champions League games from him at Olympiakos is trully impressive. In Europa League later he played well too, so don't be too harsh on him, especially if you are not an PAO or AEK fan LOL

WC Team so far (0.8 ITB):

    Ryan (Nyland)
Digne / Castagne / Saiss (Mitchell / Justin)
    Son / KDB / James R / Zaha / (Podence)
    Jimenez / Werner / DCL

    GW3 Transfer Werner > Jesus.

Keep trying to get Salah in the team but means getting rid of a Son / Werner (Jesus) type player, while downgrading another MF player. Surely No Salah is going to get more points in the next few GW's?

I think it's got a good chance yea. Would have at least the semblance of a plan to get him back in though (having say Sterling in makes it far easier than having to find the cash to go up from JRod/Son.

I don't see why anyone would pay the money for CHE defence.

The attacking returns will not outweigh the defensive frailties.

Rotation risk. It means either Pogba or Fernandes needs to miss out for him to start.
