Scoutcast Episode 345 – Is Kevin De Bruyne a must-have for FPL Wildcarders?

After a torrid Gameweek 2, Joe and Az had one request to video manager Andy when booking a guest for this week’s Scoutcast edition: “Please don’t invite anyone on with a great score this week.”

With a chuckle, the Let’s Talk FPL host promptly booked Karam, who managed to rack up 89 points in Gameweek 2 – more than our Scoutcast co-hosts’ combined scores.

Not only did Karam score well, he did it with an unusual squad, featuring triple Liverpool defence to allow him to make room in midfield and attack for his beloved Manchester City.

The likes of Kevin De Bruyne (£11.5m), Raheem Sterling (£11.5m) and Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m) take centre stage in this latest episode after Pep Guardiola’s troops impressed against Wolves. Can they do the same against Leicester this weekend?

Meanwhile, there are plenty of Wildcards being deployed among the FPL Community this week. The Scoutcasters imagine they are using this precious chip this week and try to conjure up the perfect team for Gameweek 3 and beyond.

De Bruyne understandably is the first name on their teamsheet. Even the ‘essential’ tag is mentioned a few times regarding the Belgian, who played in a more attacking role for City at Molineux.

Elsewhere, the return to Tottenham of Gareth Bale (£9.5m) is discussed. Is he a nostalgia pick or a genuine contender for FPL managers’ midfields?

This latest episode is also packed with the usual features, with an extended rough with the smooth round-up of the community’s tales of woe and joy. This includes some of the worst scores ever seen on the Scoutcast and the story of an astute five-year-old, who is heading towards the summit of the overall rankings.

‘Next four’ fixture gems are looked at and Karam takes his turn to pick a differential to help managers in the doldrums turn around their fortunes.

Joe and Az could certainly do with some luck.

Do you think Foden will be annoying player, maybe 1 return in 4 games or better, 1 return in 2?
When starter he is surely similar to 10m midfielder BUT what about those games coming from bench playing 20 minutes (1 point)? Someone like Klich is somehow not as exciting pick, what do you think?

At 6.5 he’s a good pick. He will annoy you with 1 pointers at times though, and it will hurt more if he doesn’t deliver when he does start

I realised that I'm too impatient to own a player like him. No doubt he will be very good value just not for me.

Don't think he'll be getting annoying 1 pointers that often with the 3 sub rule back

Also City score loads of goals in the last 20-30 minutes of games.

Yes this. He still has a better chance of scoring in those 20 minutes than klich the whole match.

If we were still on 5 subs, he would be a no-go. But with 3 subs I think he is worth taking a chance on.

He is basically David silva but for less money. He will play similar minutes and get similar returns.

is it worth taking a hit this week to bring Werner or Jiminez in?

    Current team:

    Martinez
    Coleman Ayling TAA Saiss
    Salah KDB(C) Bruno Mcarthy
    Martial Richarlsion

    Steer, Justin Bissouma Brewster

Feel like 2 utd is overkill until they look like they are getting into their groove. Or better to not take the hit this week?

Really concerned about not owning Werner

    Thanks in advance

What do you have in mind?

If I was to take a hit with that team it’d be to re-distribute funds away from martial/richarlison and into McCarthy

        Thanks for reply mate.

I have 0.5 itb so thinking about martial to Werner for a -4? If i do it to jiminez i can raise the 1m needed to get to podence in midfield but im not sure if the price rises will allow me to get there if i do it over a few gameweeks.

Simple question. Jiminez or Jesus? Why?

Jiminez actually converts the chances he gets, 1M less and great fixtures. I'll probably get them both

    2. Flair

Jimenez, though I have both. Phenomenal fixtures, excellent form and on penalties, team is creating plenty for him and now Traore is at RW supplying his partner in crime. Tailsman too, hogs that BPS.

Jesus plays up front for the best attacking team in the league. Might not be as ‘clinical’ as most but he will get chances by the bucketload. Immense upside.

Jimmy because he is the main target man in Wolves team + fixtures are tasty for him.
Jesus is just not that constant in performances and could be easely outscored by Sterling/KDB/Mahrez

    Martínez , 4.0

Which would you say is the best £4.5 defender to rotate with Lamptey? Lamptey would play most gameweeks as I think he will be absolute FPL gold at that price this season. Rest of the defence is TAA + Saiss.

Would have said Justin for GW 10-12 but he won't be playing then. I don't like any other 4.5s

He's shown flashes of what he's capable of, won two penalties with his speed. Likes to run in behind and his off the ball ability creates lots of problems for defenses. West Brom are dreadful plus have conceded tons of chances to strikers. When Pulisic is running at defenses and Ziyech is creating chance after chance, he should thrive. A world class striker, the fact that Chelsea have half a first team out and faced Liverpool should be considered when judging performances.

I currently have Jesus, but I'm very confident he'll come good and the swap is easy when he does.

As good as Jrod was for me last week, I have convinced myself that he would not be worth it on a WC. I see the desire to have Pulisic instead, however, I don't think he will be fit this gameweek. I like the team, you have gone with an even lighter defence than I have!

My memory from FPL Wire remembers Zophar saying that Lamps said they're "not far off". Both should be starting consistently from GW5 after the international break. Before that it's anyone's guess, I predict that both will be on the bench for WBA.

Fair point. However, if I said swap the transfers around and start with Jesus and then bring Timo in once Ziyech + Puli are back, you would have missed WBA + CRY, which are great fixtures for Timo regardless. I think both Jesus and Timo have major hauls in them these coming weeks and I am trying to figure out a way of having both of them at the correct times.

There isn't really a correct time for both IMO, just pick one and stick with it. An absolute 50/50. The lack of Ziyech and Pulisic, Chelsea offense not firing compared to City's lethal ability has me firmly on Jesus. Would like to have Werner too but that means dropping Salah, a real dilemna. Unlikely that I'll take that risk.

Son or Salah out of those
Timo is tempting too, but I just dont trust Chelsea yet.. Otherwise Werner is the world class in their setup alongside with Kante 🙂

Captain Jack Grealish (sounds like a Pirate)

He's playing Fulham, this game could end up 8-to-2....Villa will go cave man on Fulham defense, with Fulham attacking as well.

United will struggle to break down packed defences again this season, hopefully with the result that OGS gets the chop and Poch comes in.

Anyone going Adama on the WC? Surely he's in the front 3 now with Semedo.

    1. Piggs Boson
      • 12 Years
      3 years, 6 months ago

I'm not convinced Adama is nailed on. He wasn't last season, and has only been playing because Doherty left. He looks good to a layman's eyes, but there are perhaps nuances to his game that Nuno doesn't like, that we just aren't qualified to understand.

      1. ThisPostsOnFire

Adama is definitely nailed; it was just a jam-packed season for Wolves with a long Europa run etc.

He is nailed against the big 6. He was last season because of his work rate. Got rested in some easy games.

IMO the 6 - 6.5 forwards will be far more fruitful and reliable than mids

      Wood/Wilson/Antonio/Mitrovic v Traore/Foden(rotation)/Podence(Costa incoming)/Leeds mids (no standout option)

Thanks. Yeah I was also torn between Jesus, Werner & Jimenez. But among them Werner has the best next 3 (wba, CRY, SOU) and seems more explosive than Jimi, so went with him. Hope Podence covers Wolves for me and KDB and Foden cover MC attack. Whats your team like?

Nice team, quite simlar to mine (see above). IMO Saiss & Foden both seem like excellent options going forward. City looked very attacking vs Wolves so I'll prefer atleast 2 of their attackers on WC.

I think the difference is no one will keep the same attacker. So yes with making transfers according to fixtures and form u can get more than Trent would.

Plus rotating 4.5/5s can match him in clean sheets.

It can work, people always compare those premium defenders to mids/forwards of same price but you have to remember it's not 1v1, theres always 2 players in the deal. Example... will 7 mil defender + 4.5 mil mid/for outscore 7 mil mid/for + 4.5 def?

I feel in 3 transfers you can get a good team (Assumption: getting in MID/FWD from Wolves, Everton, City). So it may be managed in next 2 GWs. Choice is yours.
