Pro Pundits - Lateriser

The ‘glue guys’ who will be set-and-forget FPL options on my Gameweek 3 Wildcard

Lateriser, who finished 30th in the world last season, discusses the Fantasy assets who he’ll be sticking with over the coming weeks and months.

I am one of many managers who is deploying their Wildcard right now and one of the reasons for that is the emergence of a few ‘glue guys’ – that and the fact that I’ve had a terrible start, and my overall rank is around the 4.5 million mark.

Glue guys are the kind of picks in a particular ‘value’ price bracket that you just need to set in your team and forget about for a long time because they will continue to offer bang for buck for the mid-to-long term.

It’s important to filter these out because if you’re Wildcarding this early in the season, you need to get these picks right so that your team has enough stability.

It’s the emergence of these glue guys and a few long-term trends that I’m particularly comfortable ‘banking’ on that has me Wildcarding early. It was the similar emergence of assets like Caglar Soyuncu (£5.5m), John Lundstram (£5.5m) and Todd Cantwell early last season that instilled me with confidence to Wildcard early.

So who are the ‘glue guys’ that I’m looking at early this season?

Tariq Lamptey (£4.5M)

Brighton look like a different team this season, especially with the addition of highly-rated Ben White (£4.5m) in their side. They have been very impressive in the first two games and look to me like a team that is going to do much better than they did last year.

What Tariq Lamptey (£4.5m) gives us is the ability to provide points at both ends of the pitch at a cut-price rate.

What is FPL Upside Chasing and how can I implement it in 2020/21?

Those keeping Werner on a WC......surely he’s the one to captain then?

Yes. I think Werner (c) make heaps of sense this week. The captaincy guru from last season is going to cap him and it makes perfect sense.

I do subscribe to the belief that you can rely on bad teams being bad more than good teams being good. West Brom are a bad team. Chelsea might not be the best team, but they are certainly much better than WBA and it thus makes sense to captain their most attacking player.

The fact that Leicester has lost Ndidi to a long-term injury and their full backs are playing dangerously high... Just screams Man City (C) to me

Leicester isn't defensively ready for this game. CB, DM and full backs. Only the keeper and one CB

      That's ominous

I think Greenwood is such an explosive pick and Martial is a captain shout at home at least... to potentially emerge. Have to monitor Bruno's positions and van Deek.

So many options at Everton, Spurs, bits of Arsenal and Wolves and Brighton are on form.

As well as premium picks at Man City and Liverpool.

    Plus Chelsea players...

Will be interesting to see what Villa offer and if Burnley become a safe bet too.

No template this year? Well, not yet at least.

Lamptey was the first name on my draft because I saw him play a couple of matches last season. Amazing talent and good as an FPL asset as well for 4.5m. It was not "just one game". That's a blatant lie, lol.

I just can't get a Chelsea player in yet. Is that a crime? Would want to see more of Havertz before committing, and atm I'm going Jimi over Werner. Really interested in set-and-forget players atm, and Havertz don't suit that, and Jimi seems more appropriate than Werner.

Do I REALLY need Chelsea attack?

Ye this what I've tried to do. Son to Havertz an option. If i hold a free transfer, I can make a million and change Jimi to Werner. They're the only 2 I'm particularly interested in really.

I have 2.1m ITB for Digne to 4.0 and Reed to Havertz/Pulisic/Ziyech by GW5, IF I feel a need to do so by then

The money could go elsewhere, according to trends. I don't see a need to rush for Chelsea assets until Ziyech returns and/or the team gels together

They looked really fragile yesterday, and scored many of their goals from mistakes made by a team at the bottom of the Championship... Not out of creativity, which has been their problem in the past two GWs

    McCarthy - Steer
    TAA - Davies - Justin - C. Taylor - Mitchell
    Salah - KDB (C) - Hamez - Podence - Bissouma
    Werner - Martial - Adams

    0.4 ITB - Already on a -4

    to

    Martinez - Steer
    TAA - Saïss - Justin - Lamptey - Mitchell
    Salah - KDB - Son - Hamez - Podence
    Jiminez - DCL - Brewster

Bloody hell, on a wc, wasnt paying too much attention past 2 nights, but the podence rise, where did that come from.

Want him on the WC, serves me right for trying to be "smart"

On WC (regretfully), which is best?:

    1) Salah, Soucek (bench), DCL
    or
    2) Rash, Havertz, Brewster (bench) +1mill itb?

If Soucek on bench he's no1or2, if Brewster on bench he's 3rd, and extra mill can upgrade a 4.5def to 5/5.5

        If I go option 1)

        Martinez (4)
        Robbo, Saiss, castinge/AWB, Lampety, Mitchell
        Sterling, Salah, Foden, Podence, Soucek
        Werner, Jimi, DCL

Havertz or Werner on a wildcard?

    1. Pukki Blinders

Werner, a Havertz hat trick against a struggling championship side doesn’t change much

even so WBA are not miles better currently and Havertz will now have the confidence

Need to think beyond just this week if on WC though, confidence may be up but the speed of the PL is something he’s still not used to

Now I want Chelsea attack back.

    A) Boly + Havertz (Davis)
    B) Werner + Cooper (Alzate)
    C) Robertson + Wood (Soucek)

C is what I'm on. Are either of the other two worth it for the Chelsea option? I'm leaning Boly + Havertz lol. Havertz is such a flex slot that allows me to go to any other Chelsea or Greenwood or even down to say Barnes/Grealish. Werner allows pivots to Martial and Ings (Jimenez in already).

Alzate is bench fodder. Soucek would be 8th attacker and sitting on the bench in case of Foden cameos or some other unforeseen accidents.

Don't think u need Soucek though. U could get Oliver Burke. I think Wilder will play him often.

Lamptey the one player I regret not getting on my GW2 WC. But I did make my final defensive transfer at 10:59 so it was more of a rush that left me with Leeds than anything...

I just know I'm never going to want to spend a transfer on defence unless it's for a big hitter with a great run. But he's so fun to watch...

He is. He's looking such good value too at only 4.5 and with how good brighton have looked in their matches. I have 0.5 in the bank for any surprise rises forcing me out of a transfer so I'm good even if he rises in price. I want that tricky boy.

Having second thoughts about having Son. Maybe someonelike Zaha could offer better value and invest 2.0M more on defence.

Very happy with the relative silence of Kane additions to teams, he's a form player and you have to strike while the irons got with him, TC against newcastle this week, keep the green arrows coming Harry!

I can assure you the tottenham goals had nothing to do with tottenham being good. It was all to do with Southampton being horrible.
