Pro Pundits - Lateriser

The ‘glue guys’ who will be set-and-forget FPL options on my Gameweek 3 Wildcard

Lateriser, who finished 30th in the world last season, discusses the Fantasy assets who he’ll be sticking with over the coming weeks and months.

I am one of many managers who is deploying their Wildcard right now and one of the reasons for that is the emergence of a few ‘glue guys’ – that and the fact that I’ve had a terrible start, and my overall rank is around the 4.5 million mark.

Glue guys are the kind of picks in a particular ‘value’ price bracket that you just need to set in your team and forget about for a long time because they will continue to offer bang for buck for the mid-to-long term.

It’s important to filter these out because if you’re Wildcarding this early in the season, you need to get these picks right so that your team has enough stability.

It’s the emergence of these glue guys and a few long-term trends that I’m particularly comfortable ‘banking’ on that has me Wildcarding early. It was the similar emergence of assets like Caglar Soyuncu (£5.5m), John Lundstram (£5.5m) and Todd Cantwell early last season that instilled me with confidence to Wildcard early.

So who are the ‘glue guys’ that I’m looking at early this season?

Tariq Lamptey (£4.5M)

Brighton look like a different team this season, especially with the addition of highly-rated Ben White (£4.5m) in their side. They have been very impressive in the first two games and look to me like a team that is going to do much better than they did last year.

What Tariq Lamptey (£4.5m) gives us is the ability to provide points at both ends of the pitch at a cut-price rate.

What is FPL Upside Chasing and how can I implement it in 2020/21?

Probably tomorrow I reckon! I'm looking at bringing him in for Davies after this GW... what do you reckon his price will be, 5.5?

13.8m for 1 defender and 2 midfielders (one will have to play). Who would you go for? Currently on Lampety Bissouma Burke with 0.3 to spare

      A. - Possibly wait to see what price Semedo is put up at over the next 24 hours. I think he could be more value than Saiss if put up for 5.0m

Maybe change Burke to Bissouma or a more boring 2 pointer who you can trust won't be dropped by the time you may need them but other than that all good

Not keen on James personally but he seems popular.

Who’s your 5th mid? With Foden and Podence being possible rotation risks you’d want them to be decent I would have thought.

I guess you’ve gone Werner and Jesus at the expense of Salah. Could be good but if he looks like he looked against Leeds then that could backfire, does seem like a risk

All valid points. Jesus’ fixtures are too good to ignore being nailed on that city team. He and son become Salah + best available 6.5m when they turn.

Its fine if you are okay with perma capping KdB.

I dont think "getting Salah back" when the fixtures turn is the right thinking - because you will be losing KdB. All other teams have both, so dont fool yourself into thinking that you do as well.

Anyone else having issues with the player stats tables in the members section? It doesn't seem to have all of the stats included for every player - Willian for example, it suggests he has only played 64 minutes (the last game) and doesn't include his first appearance. That's just an example - there are a number of others. I just ran a comparison of xG and it didn't register that Richy had got 3 assists.

I have double checked the filters and there is no reason why those appreances should be filtered out.

Right hand side of the page. After selecting and sending your choice you then get a option to open Google docs which provides you with the results. Then you have to compare the names of the various players with the many colours in the pie chart to try and determine who is leading. Simple really 😉

I have an Oliver Burke problem.

He looked good against Villa, playing up front, and making pacey runs in behind the Villa defence, winning a penalty with a great pass on the counter. Sauce: https://youtu.be/q9DUwKtIo44?t=53https://youtu.be/q9DUwKtIo44?t=53 He and Mousset take up that role in the team. They're the poachers to the more physical McTargetMan.

Given the long-term injury to Mousset, Burke is nailed for now, and this week he's playing against a Leeds high line, and given his ridiculous pace, he looks set for attacking returns next game, making him the ideal stand-in for Lamptey this week.

Sounds like the perfect 4.5m mid, right?

The problem is that Wilder said he wants to strengthen in that position, because having just Burke as an option while Mousset is out is not ideal. He said they need to look at loans because of financial issues, and I hear Brewster being discussed as an option.

Now I don't want to have to use a transfer on a 4.5m bench midfielder down the road, but I reaaallly think he could do well this week, which could boost his price and help him hold the position up front a little longer. So my question is, do you think he's worth it on a WC, over the likes of a more long-term Anguissa?

          It's the long-term v short-term discussion really.

A 4.5m midfielder is ideally set and forget, so it feels like the sensible decision is to go long-term.

But Burke has huge potential short-term, and I think the temptation of him playing OOP at home against Leeds is too much upside...

For me long term is term is more important I guess as like you said, don't want to have to use a transfer on a 4.5m mid.

Also, he won't play in my team over the next two weeks as my 343 formation won't have a space for him

I'd take Burke if I was on a WC. He could cement a spot and pull a bit of a Cantwell (so you could make money. Don't think he'll have enough ownership right now, but if he gets a goal and a good stint you could make .3/.4m in the process. Anguissa/Bissouma are not Dendonckers.

A 4.5 mid is usually not even the first on the bench, so choice this season has been made checking two things.

      1) A player who is regular and not in danger of losing his position and gives 2 points if he needs to come from the bench, if he scores a random goal then i ll welcome the points

      2) A player with low ownership (less than 3-5% if possible)to not get a surprise drop

I chose Reed this season and after watching Fulham's first two games i m more than happy to have him there on my bench.

As a Leicester fan, not if he keeps up his current performances. Also, Under will take time to bed in and could even see Pereira OOP at right wing when he returns.

Who do you think will find form and step up to score big this GW, and why?

Maybe someone who hasn't had a double digit score in a while, has a series of no attacking returns, or has very low ownership.

Have you seen something in someone's play or in their stats to make you think they could be ready for a breakout GW?

Any Chelsea player that isn’t Kepa, West Brom look awful.

Sterling as the other option, Justin has been hiding behind his attacking returns, defensively still very young - with no Ndidi to cover, could see Leicester concede a fair few.

A pacey 4.5m mid, playing OOP as a striker, at home against a Leeds high-line.

Havertz - will punish the sellers in the same way Son did.
City - will lay down their marker against an injury ravaged Leic defence. KdB/Sterling/Jesus/Mahrez/Foden take your pick.
Leeds could do well against an out of sorts utd.
      And Villa.

        A> TAA + Dunne
        B> Robba + Lamptey

Rest of defense is Justin Saiss Mitchell, playing 3 at the back most week.

Let's be honest Barnsley gave away some free goals. Definitely worse than bottom of the barrel PL defense

Also, I'd argue that the key facilitator was Abraham, brilliant play to set up Havertz on multiple occasions. Didn't see anything particular special from Havertz himself.

West Brom arguably as bad as Barnsley though.

Having said that, I still think he needs more time to adapt PL style and its only a matter of time we see Havertz in everyone's team

          Can't really compare.
We have seen enough evidences where players do what they are told to by their managers.
Mendy who once made records for most crosses, rarely crosses the ball these days.
