Pro Pundits - Lateriser

The ‘glue guys’ who will be set-and-forget FPL options on my Gameweek 3 Wildcard

Lateriser, who finished 30th in the world last season, discusses the Fantasy assets who he’ll be sticking with over the coming weeks and months.

I am one of many managers who is deploying their Wildcard right now and one of the reasons for that is the emergence of a few ‘glue guys’ – that and the fact that I’ve had a terrible start, and my overall rank is around the 4.5 million mark.

Glue guys are the kind of picks in a particular ‘value’ price bracket that you just need to set in your team and forget about for a long time because they will continue to offer bang for buck for the mid-to-long term.

It’s important to filter these out because if you’re Wildcarding this early in the season, you need to get these picks right so that your team has enough stability.

It’s the emergence of these glue guys and a few long-term trends that I’m particularly comfortable ‘banking’ on that has me Wildcarding early. It was the similar emergence of assets like Caglar Soyuncu (£5.5m), John Lundstram (£5.5m) and Todd Cantwell early last season that instilled me with confidence to Wildcard early.

So who are the ‘glue guys’ that I’m looking at early this season?

Tariq Lamptey (£4.5M)

Brighton look like a different team this season, especially with the addition of highly-rated Ben White (£4.5m) in their side. They have been very impressive in the first two games and look to me like a team that is going to do much better than they did last year.

What Tariq Lamptey (£4.5m) gives us is the ability to provide points at both ends of the pitch at a cut-price rate.

What is FPL Upside Chasing and how can I implement it in 2020/21?

      if you have, keep,
if you don't worth a FT, but not a hit
if on WC, you know jiminez game you know it's he's going to get his goal, but the werner could get a brace+
but then again the worry is werner could be on the wing

Sorry to answer a question with a question, but would him scoring against one of the worst defences in the league change your mind on the transfer?
If not, then I'd go with whichever of those 3 I think would get the highest score.
IMO that may be Werner, but expecting goal plus bonus from Jimenez so mightn't be much more.
I'm a Utd fan and Martial owner but not as certain about him.

      prefer Rich over DCL.

Castagne essential do you think? TAA, Saiss and Mitchell all will be set and forget for the medium term, Lamptey has the odd good fixture where he'll start. basically got 3 and a half defenders who are good to start every game without castagne.

Could free up funds there if you fancied upgrading Jim > Jesus or DCL > Richarlison

dont really understand the castagne pick to be honest. looks like a trap to me.

other than being the top scorer for the first 2 GWs i dont see what else he has going for him. horrible GW3 fixture, and wk4/5 are not that great from a defensive point of view.

he doesn't have great goal/assist stats, especially considering he's come from barca and benfica who scored loads of goals every season.

5.5 i'll consider if he looks threatening in wolves system (he's only ever played in a back 4). Any higher i'll pass regardless

scored 2 in 82 appearances for Barca, and a new system, main reason i'll hold off for a week or two. if he could get close to doherty's production at 5.5 then he'll be essential

I really don't see the hype with Martinez, he was good when he got a chance at Arsenal, and he saved a penalty on his debut, but Villa are still awful - and have rubbish fixtures short term.

Looks about as template as you can get, which is good to keep pace with everyone else.

Write down the team that you really want and see how many changes there are. Then reflect on the forthcoming fixtures for both sets of players and compare, bearing in mind that once your WC is gone your team will be more static. Only then make your mind up.

Three solid sensible picks by Lateriser.

I personally am looking at Werner > Jimenez for GW4 (keep him for the good run)

That will free up cash to do James > Son for GW5 (keep Son till GW8 for WBA)

  21. NULL-X-VOID

    Captaincy GW3

For the people who are putting the armband on Chelsea assets, do watch the WBA home game against Lei.

Albeit the score, of which majority came from Pens, they crowded the striker and stopped a lot of Barnes attempt, which was a surprise. In the championship, at home they were more open and just attacking which wasn't the case.

Although the Chelsea attack has more pace, I still think just based on Def, KDB against an incomplete Lei defense would be a better bet. Further WBA are very weak defending their long flanks, James could get in some attacking returns if he plays, which would still be a plus for Werner.

So far the standouts are KDB and Werner, while a Salah punt can be a good gamble, against Arsenal at home. Klopp surely would want his best attack after the CS loss, and Salah (just purely on form) has been looking like a sharp beast for the past 2 GWs.

For me, I would be putting my armband on KDB against Lei.

Can either get Son or Jimi in WC team, with a 4.5 in ATT/MID to compensate. Who to go for?

Jimi for steady returns, Son for upside.

    Martinez (Ryan)
James / TAA / Saiss (Justin, Mitchell)
Havertz (c) / Salah / De Bruyne / Son (Anguissa)
    DCL / Bamford / Wood

My team is mainly picked around upcoming fixtures. Going to take a risk and make Havertz captain after his midweek hattrick.

Bamford in for tough fixtures and Wood upfront?

      Isn't Nketiah a better bet?

      Bench but points too.
