Pro Pundits - Darren

Why I’m lining up for FPL Gameweek 3 without any Chelsea players

A Fantasy Premier League veteran of 11 years, Darren Wiles has an incredible track record with three top 1k finishes in the last four seasons.

With so many favourable match-ups in Gameweek 3, I am feeling confident about the next round of Fantasy Premier League.

It has been a positive start thus far, anyway, with 80 and 90-point hauls in the first two Gameweeks taking me to a total of 170 and an overall rank of 29k.

The goals have been flying in so far and I have been lucky enough to capitalise on the early glut of double-digit returns. But all of that is in the past, and it’s what happens this weekend that matters now.

Here is what my team looks like for Gameweek 3 and the reasons behind some key decisions.

No chance it's that high, there will be a much higher percentage of wildcarders on here than in the FPL world and I don't think it's even 40% on here.

I've gone for B as I think Werner will probably be better value than Son (Spurs overperforming & fixture conjestion, Chelsea underperforming and with Ziyech, Pulisic to come in (and more time for Havertz to get comfortable). Also dislike having the 4.5m forward. Burke & Anguissa seem to offer a little more as midfield options. Unsure on Dunne though - I've stuck with a 4.5 for extra insurance (Justin, who should keep his spot until end of October).

      1. TAT
        • 6 Years
        3 years, 6 months ago

I'm on B right now, for the reason you mentioned above about the 4.5 forward. Great fixture for Werner too now, and should Chelsea start to gel, it's good to have their #1 striker in the team. It's always a worry you'll get punished not owning Son though, on the form he's in – though you can probably not say Spurs as a team are on form.

Dunne is a placeholder right now, until I land that final defender spot. Lamptey is probably the one I end up going for.

        1. dezille
          • 6 Years
          3 years, 6 months ago

You never know when Son gets stuck on the wing and his value probably falls quite a lot when that happens. Owned him for several weeks post restart and he never even looked like scoring. Think we have to assume this last GW was a bit of an anomaly although I do think there will be more an effort to get him central this season with the introduction of Bale & Reguillon. Fix conjestion is still a thing though for now. Werner wins for now! Yea Lamptey looks good, i'm just not a fan of Brighton in general and would prefer a Leicester defender even if it's only for the next few gameweeks.

          1. TAT
            • 6 Years
            3 years, 6 months ago

Agree, it was probably as much the way Southampton played rather than Spurs played that led to the haul. Will be interesting to see how Bale affects Son's output – but Bale isn't available yet. The fixture congestion is a good point too.

I'm more a fan of Lamptey than Brighton in general! I could pick Justin of course, but do we know if he'll be an option for long?

I'm thinking in a very crazy way and I want to share this:
Atm Son had 4 gls and Harry has 1. But Harry always scores more goals than Son if they play the same amount of minutes in the season. So probably in the next 10-15 spurs goals Harry will score around 70% of them.
Another example: Werner and Havertz have to score their first PL goals very soon. Because this is what everyone is expecting.
But Jimenez already scored 2 goals so it will come by no surprise if he scores only 2 in his next 6 games. We know that he is usually a 15-17 goals per season fwd
Despite this logic I'm going for KDB captain, expecting another haul mainly because his goal has not from open play and his assist was not a normal assist but a just a tap-in

Not too much, because they're easy to hop off whenever.

      I'd opt for 1 more highly-likely-to-play cover.
Lamptey a great 1st bench but in doubt currently, 2 weeks til Van Aanholt returns, only leaves you Brewster as a sub ..... and he's not likely to get minutes unless the rumored transfer happens.
      Internationals, rotation, injury, suspension, covid.
      And with no wildcard.

Ok thanks very much. Who would you suggest as better bench cover?

          Is James necessary ?
Could give yourself 0.5 to guarantee 11 playing ?

    My last doubt on WC

    A) Mitro and TAA (3-4-3)
    B) Foden and Robbo (3-5-2)
    Long term ofc
