Pro Pundits - Darren

Why I’m lining up for FPL Gameweek 3 without any Chelsea players

A Fantasy Premier League veteran of 11 years, Darren Wiles has an incredible track record with three top 1k finishes in the last four seasons.

With so many favourable match-ups in Gameweek 3, I am feeling confident about the next round of Fantasy Premier League.

It has been a positive start thus far, anyway, with 80 and 90-point hauls in the first two Gameweeks taking me to a total of 170 and an overall rank of 29k.

The goals have been flying in so far and I have been lucky enough to capitalise on the early glut of double-digit returns. But all of that is in the past, and it’s what happens this weekend that matters now.

Here is what my team looks like for Gameweek 3 and the reasons behind some key decisions.

      Wood + Townsend for me.

Praet (after City) and Trossard (not best fixtures) look good too.

Podence is popular but I feel he's a trap. Semedo is incredible and Traore will be more integral now.

Podence is a good option of course, just seems like he's over performing atm.

        cheers. townsend is 6 though.

I suppose nobody can know for sure, but Praet has some brilliant stats thus far.

I know we're only two games in but he looks good on paper and passes the eye test for me. If Leicester weren't playing City he'd be in my WC team.

I'm going for Townsend as he looks good long term.

5.5m mids are tricky. 4.5m options like Stephens/Anguissa free up another mil, but it's what you do with that money.

But for 0.5m more you get Trossard/Townsend etc..

Praet is a great 5.5m option going under the radar. Of course if he is dropped I can only apologise for mentioning him, but it seems unlikely due to his form.

    Thoughts guys? WC

    Martinez,
    James, Saiss, Trent,
    Salah, KDB, Son, James, Burke,
    Jiminez, Calvert-Lewin,

Forster, Mitchell, Justin, Davis, 0.9 ITB

I could swap Son and Burke to Foden and Greenwood but it gives me a benching headache for the following two gameweeks.

Fair. For me I think he slots straight in.

Even if he gets 45mins at West Ham I'd take it.

Wolves are operating similarly to Liverpool. Creating a system and finding the players to slot in. He seems ready made to me.

Taylor is a great shout at 4.5.

I suppose you're getting Castagne because he spends half his time in the final third.

Looks a really good attacking fullback. Might be a false dawn, but he looks quality to me.

Even if Leicester lose 3-2, you'd not be too surprised if he scored as though he got a CS.

Richarlison for me is surely going to be a mega star under ancelotti?

He is someone with the potential to really rack up some huge scores, he can score and assist. I think this season could really be his breakout season.

      Adams > Bamford?

  17. Phil's Stamps
    • 13 Years
    3 years, 6 months ago

I think due to the injuries in their squad the argument for including 3 City mids on a WC has never been stronger. The majority will go with KDB. The key advantage Salah (or Mane, but lets face it, no serious players are going with Mane) has over Sterling is no threat of rotation, which has gone for a few GWs at least. Penalties are useful but I think the fact that Raheem can regularly turn it on home or away trumps this significantly. Factor in extremely low ownership -currently 6%- for Sterling (Salah will always be 1st choice on the casual players list) and the fact that -if you're only captaining him at home- for almost the entire remaining first half of the season he's only got 2, maybe 3 captainable fixtures. And then there's Foden, a steal at 6.5 when with Jesus out he's going to be pretty much nailed.*

    *Cue benching this week.

    1. JONALDINHO
      • 6 Years
      3 years, 6 months ago

If I was WC I’d have KDB sterling and foden 100%.

    2. Snevitz

I have KDB as captain along with Foden and Mahrez as I think they offer better value than a non captained Sterling.

      1. Phil's Stamps
        • 13 Years
        3 years, 6 months ago

Mahrez is a good shout; with the injuries surely he plays?

City is always a lottery but 175 points in under 2000 minutes last season is impressive and I have a playing bench just in case.

    3. tm370
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member
      • 9 Years

I don't see how this validates Sterling over Salah tbh. If you have KDB, you won't be captaining Sterling, unless you think Sterling is a better bet for points (which he isn't, imo).

Salah has always outscored Sterling and gives a different captaincy option.

      1. Phil's Stamps
        • 13 Years
        3 years, 6 months ago

I think you're right, but it just backs up the argument that it's best to go with just KDB as a big-hitter if you're not going to captain Salah and the stats say don't captain Salah away. Up to GW22 Salah has only 2 'plum' home fixtures. The wisdom on here also seems to be captain Sterling away and KDB at home. That's why I'd choose Sterling over Salah.
