Abraham leads Chelsea line as Jorginho drops to bench for West Brom trip

Tammy Abraham (£7.3m) has been tasked with leading the Chelsea line for their Gameweek 3 trip to West Bromwich Albion.

After impressing midweek, the former Swansea City loanee makes his first Premier League start of the season in what looks to be a 4-2-3-1 formation named by Frank Lampard.

That suggests a slightly wider role for Timo Werner (£9.5m), who is capable of operating as a left-winger, while Kai Havertz (£8.4m) gets his first chance to play number 10 in a league match since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen.

Meanwhile, Abraham coming into the team has forced Jorginho (£5.1m) to the bench, which should make for interesting viewing if Chelsea win any penalties this afternoon, as the Italian has taken two since the start of the season.

In defence, Reece James (£5.1m) continues to silence the naysayers worried about rotation, as he starts ahead of Cesar Azpilicueta (£5.9m) for the third match in a row.

His Fantasy credentials are boosted by a Premier League debut for Thiago Silva (£5.5m), although Willy Caballero (£4.9m) makes one last start in goal as Edouard Mendy‘s (£5.0m) came too soon for involvement in Gameweek 3.

Matheus Pereira (£6.0m) remains the only asset of slight Fantasy worth in the West Bromwich Albion side.

The mid-priced midfielder is the most popular among Baggies starters but is only owned by 2.5% ahead of a testing meeting with Chelsea.

West Bromwich Albion XI (5-4-1): Johnstone; C Townsend, O’Shea, Bartley, Ajayi, Furlong; Diangana, Sawyers, Livermore, M Pereira; C Robinson.

Chelsea XI (4-2-3-1): Caballero; Alonso, T Silva, Christensen, R James; Kanté, Kovačić; Werner, Havertz, Mount; Abraham.

I think Zaha might have been a bad pick on WC, not because he didn't score, but because he just didn't seem to have any attacking purpose, would just receive the ball and then knock it back safe, and sometimes he would fall over and complain a bit - even with nice fixtures after Chelsea Barnes might tempt me if he looks bright against City

It's one game and the most difficult one of his 1st 6. He's returned in the previous 2 and has a very decent run of fixtures.
Would wait and see against Chelsea's high line in the next game.

Big price difference but would like to not have to chop and change forwards with Jimenez and Richarlison my other two.

The 6.5 bracket allows for nice transfer rotation between Wood, Wilson, Antonio, Maupay and Mitro.

They are all great options at various points but I want to lock down my forwards, GK and defence eventually so transfers can be focused on picking premium mids for captaincy.

He’s on form but Rucharlison is who I’d go for on wc. Consistently more threatening, does well in Bps, seems to be passing more and is on penalties. By end of week 6 he’ll be ahead of DCL and won’t look back.

      I have DCL atm too

At that price, being supplied by Hames, Richarlison, Digne, Gomez, Coleman........he's a really, really, really, really good pick (I don't like using the word essential)

Maybe you can help me with this.

I understand James has potential attacking returns, but he only produced 2 assists from half a season's worth of minutes last season.

Have been wondering why on earth anyone would want a defender in a Chelsea team that plays a suicidal high-line, can't make decent recovery runs and have seemingly no real defensive structure in place.

He doesn't have the potential for the kind of TAA/Robo level output which would be necessary to balance things up with Chelsea's woeful defence, so why do FPL managers want him?

      1. Cynical
        • 7 Years
        3 years, 6 months ago

I've been thinking this too. I expect Chels to improve defensively without Kepa but Reece has never put up strong offensive numbers before. Don't get me wrong, he's still a decent pick for the price but he won't match the usual big hitters in defence imo.

There's been 3 matches, but midway through the last match James took over the corners and hasn't not taken one since I think. Freekicks it seems they share with Digne edging it especially for shooting opportunities

He is so good. Yeah the position he plays will lead to assisting the assister but if he had really world class players in front of him they would be assists. I am not say Rich and DCL are not good but they are short of being really really good.

Top10k stats not much use yet. Vast majority only there due to Sons haul.

Overall a better guide till maybe GW6/8.

It’s getting close to where fpl need to step in and penalties only be 3 points.

Would make a lot of sense and require the minimal coding change. Otherwise teams could get very similar very quick.

Yeah James only here too. Hopefully a CS offsets any damage Werner does
