Southampton make one change for trip to injury-stricken Burnley

Ralph Hasenhüttl has made just one change to his Southampton side as they travel to Burnley in Gameweek 3.

The Saints were opened up time and time again in a 5-2 home defeat to Spurs last Sunday but, despite that poor result, Jack Stephens (£5.0m) is the only player to lose his place.

Jannik Vestergaard (£4.5m) comes into the back-four as Stephens drops to the bench, while key Fantasy assets Alex McCarthy (£4.5m) and Kyle Walker-Peters (£4.5m) retain their starting berths in defence.

It is also an unchanged attacking setup for Southampton as Moussa Djenepo (£5.5m) and Stuart Armstrong (£5.5m) provide the width for Danny Ings (£8.4m) and Che Adams (£5.9m).

Meanwhile, Burnley are painfully short of key players once again, especially in defence. Sean Dyche is forced into pairing Jimmy Dunne (£4.0m) with Kevin Long (£4.5m) at centre-back.

Dale Stephens (£4.5m) makes his debut in central midfield, while a shortage of wider options pushes Josh Brownhill (£5.0m) onto the right.

Chris Wood (£6.5m) leads the line, as per usual, but injuries to his team-mates means a first Premier League start of the season for Matej Vydra (£5.0m).

Burnley XI (4-4-2): Pope; C Taylor, Dunne, K Long, Bardsley; McNeil, Westwood, D Stephens, Brownhill; Vydra, Wood.

Southampton XI (4-4-2): A McCarthy; Bertrand, Bednarek, Vestergaard, Walker-Peters; Djenepo, Ward-Prowse, Romeu, Armstrong; Adams, Ings.

These offer better/similar returns for a cheaper price. Prefer Son/Barnes from spurs/Leicester.

I think bale will take points away from son. Maybe even game time. Kane is the ultimate se mr and forget, takes pens, has no replacement, fixture proof.... Barnes, whilst a good player who I like, doesn’t offer enough assists to cover vardy.

Not if Werner is played is played wide left and Tammy/Giroud is in the centre. We move the ball too slowly out of defence to take advantage of Werner´s pace.

      Ings Jimenez DCL

Looks ideal. Debating with a mate and he pointed out you can still easily keep TAA and two premium mids.

Hmmm Ings long-term will get outpointed by DCL, same with Rich. I think Wilson's a dark horse and to save the money in mid/def.

Just got in after bowling and a steak 🙂 Bit of a lucky escape not owning Werner or were Chelsea that bad?

    1. Syd.

      Chelsea were awful

Comedy defending and no shape whatsoever, 3-0 down at HT and if it wasn't for WBA being so gash they would have got nothing from the game

Did they try and sit back or something? Crazy to give up that lead.

        1. Syd.

          3 years, 6 months ago

Yes they sat back and let Chelsea attack them once the 1st goal went in you always knew there would be more, it certainly wasn't back to the wall stuff and Chelsea did huff and puff and WBA eventually crumbled. Werner was all over the place and played more as a left winger missed one good chance in the 1st half but overall he was disappointing given the level of the opposition.

nice one, mate, thanks for the summary. Was a 50/50 call on whether to have him on a wildcard given Chelsea's fixtures, so I got away with one there.

I did check the Chelsea line up before heading out and saw Abraham starting. Was quite relieved tbh.

You don't want to hear about bowling; my strike rate was about as bad as Werner's by the sounds of it!

Whats the deal with bowling now? Did they have to sanitise all the balls before you played?

      1. Twisted Saltergater
        • 14 Years
        3 years, 6 months ago

yes! They have a rack of sanitised balls, so to speak, and then at the end of the game, you move all your balls to the "dirty" rack.

It worked ok; there were plenty of different weight balls to go around.

That's it, I hate playing an early wildcard, but I've had a poor run all season so it's time to shake my team up.

How does this WC look? It's pretty light in defense, but no one seems able to get a clean sheet anyway.

    Martinez | Steer
    Saiss | Semedo | Lamptey | Justin | Mitchell
    KDB | Salah | Sterling | Foden | Alzate
    Jiminez | DCL | Mitro

I don't like mitro as his GWs 4+5 would be blanks. Anyone you could bring in for those 2 weeks before getting him in? Double Wolves defence seems risky after GW7 unless you already have a plan.
