Tierney back in Arsenal line-up as Thiago misses out for Liverpool

Kieran Tierney (£5.4m) has overcome his groin injury to make a much-needed start for Arsenal as they face Liverpool at Anfield.

The Scottish international has been a key member of Mikel Arteta’s back-three in recent months and was sorely missed in the Gameweek 2 draw with West Ham.

He is joined in the heart of the Gunners’ defence by the continually ever-present Rob Holding (£4.5m) and David Luiz (£5.5m), who makes his first start of the season in the place of a benched Gabriel (£5.1m).

Arteta has gone for a defensive double-up in central midfield by selecting Mohamed Elneny (£4.5m) alongside Granit Xhaka (£5.5m), who are flanked by wing-backs Ainsley Maitland-Niles (£5.0m) and Hector Bellerín (£5.0m).

Following a week of flash sales in favour of Kevin De Bruyne (£11.6m), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.9m) lines up in his usual starting berth on the left-hand side of Arsenal’s front three.

He is accompanied there by Willian (£8.0m) and an in-form Alexandre Lacazette (£8.5m), who has two goals from two Premier League games this season and keeps Eddie Nketiah (£5.9m) on the bench again.

Liverpool are mostly as expected, with Mohamed Salah (£12.1m), Sadio Mané (£11.9m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) and Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) all in their usual stations for Gameweek 3.

However, Thiago Alcantara (£6.0m) misses out through a “minor fitness issue” while Joe Gomez (£5.4m) returns from his injury to start at centre-back once again.

Liverpool XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Robertson, van Dijk, Gomez, Alexander-Arnold; Keita, Wijnaldum, Fabinho; Mané, Firmino, Salah.

Arsenal XI (3-4-3): Leno; Tierney, D Luiz, Holding; Maitland-Niles, Xhaka, Elneny, Bellerín; Aubameyang, Lacazette, Willian.

If it means keep Trent and Robbo I'd say it's worthwhile. I doubt many mids priced 7,5 / 7 will get more points than them. Fixtures are looking good for them also.

Yeah Townsend is a good shout, 5th best Mid right now with attacking returns each of his 3 gameweeks at a bargain 6m. He was never quite over injury last season but starting as one of our best this season.

Played my WC this gw.. Bit of a mess but decided to make a few transfers this week to patch things up. Also going to use bench boost this week to make up for 16 pts of transfers

Making up 16 points by bench boosting makes zero sense. The bench boost can make those points back in future. Maybe you should have thought more about your 16pt hit?

I think I'm going to trust my judgment on the double Wolves. If they keep a clean sheet, and they really, really should against FUL, it's a big win.

I'm going to do just Son out or no transfer at all. I'm really loathed to lose Son when he has that run of games. I think I might risk the price drop here for the information on how long he will be out for.

      1. Rinseboy
        • 12 Years

fair enough good luck. I'm worried its trying to be to clever and Robbo looks too good to ignore and pool look to be in great form!

It's still taking a -4 for a defender and you're removing Semedo who has FUL. It's way way too reactionary. Both the Liverpool fullbacks are on fewer points than a clean sheet pre bonus. It's not like they're completely irreplaceable if they concede the odd goal every game.

          1. Rinseboy
            • 12 Years
            3 years, 6 months ago

I get what you're saying but Robbo is on for a 10 pointer here and looks great. I'm worried Wolves aren't settled yet at the back and Semedo will take time to get going or I keep him and lose Saiss

              You do you.

I'm sticking. I know Robbo looks good. I know TAA is good. But I don't think it's worth tearing up everything I built this team up for when Liverpool look vulnerable at the back, and they do look vulnerable after watching this game.

That's all fine and dandy but he'll have to replace Ings or DCL for Vardy and there's no mid for me that can match them at that price. Bruno will outscore vardy simply by his midfield classification at same price as well. That's just my opinion though.

My thought is that he's energized from winning the golden boot last season but who knows. He looks motivated. The pens have been strong and accurate as well which says something.
