Scoutcast Episode 346 – Leicester stars gather Fantasy interest

Joe and Az are joined by Fantasy Football Community’s Holly to look ahead to Gameweek 4 and try to make sense of the previous week’s fixtures.

With Manchester City beaten by Leicester City and West Ham United seeing off Wolverhampton Wanderers, it was one of the oddest Gameweeks that our Scoutcast trio can remember.

Popular captaincy choices Kevin De Bruyne (£11.6m) and Timo Werner (£9.4m) blanking made it a particularly tough week for many, as Az’s rundown of the community’s ‘rough with the smooth’ Gameweek 3 scores reveals.

Many FPL managers need a quick fix after a tricky start to the season – and this is where Leicester’s players may be able to help. Across all outfield positions, the East Midlanders have form and great fixtures on their side. Joe, Az and Holly answer the community’s key questions about the Foxes as they prepare for their favourable run of games.

Midfield is a particular area of concern for Son Heung-min (£9.0m) owners after the Spurs winger suffered an injury setback. The crew consider the best replacements, including some intriguing lower-priced alternatives.

Penalty takers could be top of many FPL managers’ shopping lists. With 20 penalties already this season, the merits of targeting those on spot-kick duties is debated.

Meanwhile, the next four fixtures are considered, Holly chooses a differential, and transfer and captaincy plans are revealed.

Will they take swift action to propel themselves up the FPL rankings?

All different but what do you like the most. Choose one:

    A) Son + Werner to Bruno + DCL

    B) Son + Werner to Rashford + Jimenez

    C) Son + Werner to James + Martial

    D) Son to Rash

    E) Son to James

Because Son is the biggest priority player for me. Starting in GW5 he has WHU bur BHA wba. I mistakenly thought he'd be out for longer.

Now, I'll need to reverse the transfer or lose Havertz to get him back. That's 2 precious transfers that I'll be behind on.

I'm just about to do an update for that one actually.

Currently got Rashford 4th, B VsX (only just, super boarderline there)
Removed Martial all together. That tool isn't really aimed at a manager of your quality though 😉

My quality! You are a funny one!

I don't remember looking at the watchlist in 2020, but maybe I should start. Seems a bit reactionary for someone to go from 3rd to off the chart though, considering the factors haven't changed much in 1 week.

It's really not! We get people coming on who want to replace a player, say, Son and have no idea who to get. The idea is someone with no real FPL knowledge could come on, look at the list, and pick the first player they can afford. The idea there is to help people that may now pick say Podence as a cheap midfielder instead of someone like Moutinho (though I did see FPL Scout recommending him today...) based on that. There's some parts that a manager like yourself could pick out, but I don't need to tell you that TAA is a good pick for example!

More of a price point thing. It's not explained, but I have to balance the number of players at each price point so there's a nice clean spread, I don't actually think March is the 10th best mid for example. As a result, some players will inexplicably pop on and off, not necessarily because I think they're out of the top 10 but because there's other players similar to them that I need to put on ahead.

Mahrez for example - I want to include him, but I also need to put KDB and Sterling on, plus Foden in the mid bracket. I won't put 4 City mids on the list at once (3 is incredibly rare as is) so he misses out.

          1. Deulofail
            • 8 Years
            3 years, 5 months ago

That's why I have 3 City and 3 United attackers. People avoid options that are individually good because they like to "spread" the "risk"/fun by avoiding double and triple ups. Thanks for helping the cause 😉

I understand the restrictions of the watchlist, but perhaps it needs a rethink or redefinition or rename. Idk it doesn't really make a difference for me, as you say. But the factors don't seem to be overly important.

Oh I don't think going something like triple attack is bad at all - I just have to give fair representation to all the teams! If I can't find around 7 players in each position from different teams that are good options, I have no business sitting here telling people what I think!

I could list out all the Liverpool defenders for example and have them dominate the list, but that's of interest to absolutely nobody. Instead I'll include a player like Konsa because he's a set piece target in a strong (ish) looking defence. Would I prefer a Liverpool defender? Of course! But with the top 2 picks (this upcoming week) set to be the Liverpool full backs, I think people get the idea. Far less likely that a manager (a casual one I mean, but you could even extend it to players on here) would consider Konsa.

I have no interest in Bruno Fernandes honestly, until I see him starting to properly sizzle. Rashford may well come in for me this week.

Not keen on comparing directly because 10.5m strangely feels more than a mil more than 9.5m, if that makes any sense

10.5m midfielder is a horrific price point this season, particularly when you’re paying it for someone that’s overpriced.

I'm kind of regretting getting depressed over pens and picking Penandes instead of Rashy. He's a great option that always looks like a dangerous point-scorer whenever I watch him. Much cheaper as well.

Don't agree, Ings is almost playing as a winger in a 4-3-3 with Adams up top. Jimmy is the focal point for Wolves's attack and is always in the box.

Gut feeling mostly. Brighton so far have looked much improved on last season and with the way they're playing I think they'll get a decent amount of penalties as well this season plus new handball rules could increase that even more. (i know about the leniency thing but it'll still be more than normal). He had a decent score last season with only the 1 penalty and could reach around 180 this time i think.

Cut Werner, not a pen taker and Palace/Soton both defend well.
Save money get a budget striker in then upgrade that midfield. Bissouma Pereira Lemina are all too weak, absolute max two budget midfielders needed

Is Mahrez a valid option now with Sterling playing as the false 9 and struggling and De Bruyne in a deeper role?

How nailed down a starter on the right wing is Mahrez, he obviously has competition from Ferran Torres but seems to be in the incumbent?

How likely is he to start the next few games. Guardiola does random things and often rotates which is a worry because I think Mahrez has real goal/assist threat and could be a great differential.

Torres, Bernardo Silva and Foden all competing with him for that spot when fit and when Jesus / Aguero fit (and sounds like they both might be in contention after the IB). He gets points when he plays generally, though. But if it's a short term move not so sure I'd do it.

Yeah was thinking for the next 4/5 gameweeks before Jesus gets back then sell. City don't have great fixtures but will still likely score 2/3 goals a game. Is B Silva injured now?

Yeah I haven't a clue when he's due back either, been missing since before preseason I believe. I actually thought he might move slightly more central like during parts of his first season with David Silva gone but will have to see. If you're planning on having him for 4/5 weeks then maybe go for it, but it sounds like both Jesus and Aguero will be back after the break so maybe wait and see unless you have no City cover for the next couple of game gameweeks.

Chelsea could have Pulisic and Ziyech both fit and ready to go for GW5, with Havertz starting behind Werner as CF. Not saying don't do it as Lampard might still struggle a bit to get things to gel (or they could face further setbacks) but maybe hang on and see what shape they're in after the break.
