Jimenez blanks as Saiss earns bonus from wing-back berth and Vinagre departs

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS 1-0 FULHAM

  • Goals: Pedro Neto (£5.5m)
  • Assists: Leander Dendoncker (£4.9m)
  • Bonus:  Max Kilman (£4.0m) x3, Romain Saiss (£5.1m), Willy Boly (£5.5m) x2

A dour 1-0 win for Wolves at home to Fulham did very little to repay the faith shown by the net 141,000 managers who brought in Raul Jimenez (£8.6m) for Gameweek 4.

Nuno Espirito Santo summed the game up with three lines in his post-match offering:

Not quite (the performance I wanted). Not so compact in defence and not quite creative in attack. I think we should improve.

Going into more detail, the Wolves boss added:

We started the game well, organised. We had some problems in attack. Fulham were organised.

Second half we were much better, we created and were on the front foot and got the goal. It was important to bounce back from last week but we know it is important to improve.

We made a lot of things better than last week but with our standards I believe we should do better. We should manage the game better after we score.

I want to see what’s missing – we need to be sharper, we need to pass the ball faster, we need to control the ball, combine, turn faster, win duels. There are a lot of things to improve.

JIM PICKINGS

Nuno was spot on in his assessment of Wolves’ attack in the first half, though seven chances created in the whole game is indicative of a poor attacking performance across the 90 minutes.

Of Jimenez’s three shots in the game, only the one after 54 minutes was a particularly decent scoring opportunity: a Max Kilman (£4.0m) clearance ended up putting the Mexico striker in a one-on-one situation with Alphonse Areola (£4.5m). Jimenez, fresh from signing a new four-year deal at Molineux, shot straight at the Fulham goalkeeper and Areola then held the ball from Leander Dendoncker‘s (£4.9m) follow-up attempt.

Two minutes later, a blocked Dendoncker effort ended up at the feet of Pedro Neto (£5.5m), who slotted a left-footed effort into the right-hand side of the net.

PRE-SAISS PLAY

With Marcal (£4.9m) injured and Ruben Vinagre (£4.4m) on his way out of the club, Romain Saiss (£5.1m) took over at left wing-back. However, it appears likely that the Moroccan will revert to his usual position with Wolves adding further cover at left wing-back.

Saiss was joint-top for clearances, blocks and interceptions (seven) with Kilman, who operated on the left-hand side of Wolves’ central defensive unit and ended up bagging maximum bonus points.

Saiss’ eight-point score was also a bonus for those who invested in Wolves for a sustained run of favourable fixtures from Gameweek 4.

CANDID KAMARA

As with Wolves, Fulham fashioned just one ‘big’ opportunity in the tie which fell to Aboubakar Kamara (pictured above with Saiss).

The £5.0m midfielder was unselfishly found in the area by Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.0m), who had been released after excellent play by substitute Ademola Lookman (£5.0m).

Kamara only managed to shoot straight at Rui Patricio (£5.5m), mirroring Jimenez’s failure to make a gilt-edged chance count.

Scott Parker, however, was upbeat about his team’s performance despite a fourth consecutive defeat in four gameweeks.

The Fulham chief said:

I am delighted and proud of the team in what they produced today. They showed every facet of what a team needs to show, it has been well documented defensively in terms of conceding goals.

For large parts we nullified their threat as a counter-attacking team and on the other side of it we defended as best we can. We have been absolutely gutted at some of the goals we have conceded – the players are hurting as much as anyone they are not winning games.

I think we got a performance today. We have had that in other games as well. If you could, you would wave a magic wand or click a finger and everything would be perfect but it is not that easy.

On Lookman, who was part of a more sustained offensive threat from Fulham in the last quarter of the game, Parker added:

You saw the boy’s quality in the time he had on the pitch. There is a directness about him, a willingness to cause problems and that is what we need. He will be a massive asset for us.

Parker set his troops up in a 4-2-3-1 formation at Molineux, with Joe Bryan (£4.9m) and Antonee Robinson (£4.4m) interchangeable on the left flank.

NELSON’S COLUMN

Nelson Semedo (£5.5m) came within inches of scoring in the opening half, with Areola just about managing to deflect the defender’s effort over the bar with a sprawling save.

That opportunity came about after the keeper had spilled a Neto shot into Semedo’s path.

The wing-back came off after 77 minutes with what looked like an injury, though it was downplayed by Nuno after the game.

Wolves XI (3-4-3): Patricio; Kilman, Coady, Boly; Saiss, Neves, Dendoncker, Semedo (Hoever 77′); Neto (Traoré 83′), Jimenez, Podence (Moutinho 70′).

Fulham XI (4-2-3-1): Areola; Robinson, Ream, Le Marchand, Aina; Anguissa, Cairney; Bryan (Kamara 67′), De Cordova-Reid (Kebano 81′), Cavaleiro (Lookman 67′); Mitrovic.

With a second haul in four gameweeks, Spurs Heung-Min Son is now the highest scoring player in this season’s Fantasy Premier League and with any doubts about his form and condition seemingly now behind him, a fixture list after a two week break that reads WHU bur BHA wba over the next four and with him still currently being available at a very generous looking cost price of £9m, is Son now edging towards being a ‘must have’ in our sides?

Owners of Harry Kane will be happy with how their man has been performing, but is there now a good case for doubling up on Spurs attacking assets?

What about trusting Son with the armband when the Premier League returns for gameweek 5? Does the lack of points at home and West Ham’s form concern you or do you make him one the leading captaincy candidates?

If you don’t currently own Son, do you plan to bring him in and who makes way? Is anyone thinking Gareth Bale could be an even better option and could he have a negative impact on Son’s returns?

What are your general thoughts on Spurs and the in form South Korean?

Yeah, currently my bus team captain. I like KDB next week too though, especially if Aguero is back.

Yup, guy that broke the Jesus injured news has said Aguero is fit for the arsenal game. That makes KDB my current captain, without a striker not so much

If you look at Son's history the only thing that ever stopped him from being an elite fpl option was minutes, with Mourinho he's gonna be nailed so yeah at his price he's gonna offer great value. Bale coming in not sure how that'll affect son but hopefully for the better

I think Bale could enhance Kane and maybe son too. Yes they will share out the returns, but i think there could be a general increase in spurs returns once the starting 11 is more settled especially regarding the full-backs and the dele situation

Current Kane owner at the moment. Spurs have looked quite sharp with their recent games in mind. I fear not owning Son atm. I'll be waiting until the IB ends to ride out possible injury concerns, but he is in my thoughts for sure. With a 9 mill price tag, he looks well priced. Biggest concern with the double up is Spurs' amount of games.

          Getting both on WC.

Bale being more expensive than Son is preposterous. I think that Bale just means more goals for Spurs and I think it will benefit Kane, more than detract from Son.

Have owned Kane since the start. Happy with him. Not really too keen on doubling up. Spurs have had some good wins but one was against an imploding United who Brighton could have put 6 past and against a Southampton team who inexplicable played a crazy high line.
Not saying they won't score but they haven't turned into 2018 City. I think I'll hold Kane alone for now

But if one scores, the other likely assists.

Huge amounts of decency bias, but then they are the best current strike partnership in the Prem.

They seem to have a good partnership but still cautious on their attack as a whole. Willing to hold and maybe captain Kane for the next few but not too keen on doubling up. They didn't look great against Everton. A bit unlucky against Newcastle admittedly but will see how they do over the next 2 or 3 games.

Have Salah and Sterling as my premiums in the midfield and content with them for now

Look at the starting lineup that started Everton

No Lo Celso, no Ndombele, no Sissoko, no Regulion, no Bale

Although only a few weeks ago, Spurs almost have a new starting IX

It's because of him i didn't pick Son on my WC last GW.

At the start of the season I was concerned he would be hugging the touchline,

This obviously isn’t the case. I bought him last week, and fortunately kept him for this week’s haul. He’s armband material in GW5 and GW8 - he’s playing well and so are Spurs. I would consider a Son-Kane double up but it’s a bit difficult to do with my team structure. May well get Regulion in, though

I would’ve thought people would’ve stopped using the term must-have by now.

KDB was called a must-have 2 weeks ago and now no one cares about him and transferring him out for Son who is the new must-have? So everyone that’s just hauled is a must-have until they’re not? Points-chasing mentality.

Is anyone acknowledging the fact that red cards cause players to haul?

The ‘must have’ is in inverted commas to be fair like! I don’t think getting Son is just points chasing though, he’s a great player with four 150+ point seasons in a row, great fixtures and a great price, some thought he’d we playing too far wide this season but he’s been anything but so far and he has two weeks off now whilst most players are jetting all over for international duty - there is lots to like!

I wouldn’t go giving up on KDB just yet either by the way.

The scary thing is he's been unlucky not to score more, particularly against Newcastle.

Looks like I'm doing Sterling ->Son this week. Not sure where the other FT or the money will be spent, maybe Robertson, maybe Pulisic, maybe Kane. But Son and Spurs are looking amazing this season and I need in.

Bale is someone I want to see start a game before I buy. But I am preparing a plan to buy. I think he's going to be phenomenal. Once again. And I want to jump on faster than my competitors.

Haven't owned him all season and tbh, I'm still not tempted. Don't see the appeal compared to a midfielder that plays the same role but gets more points.

I will bring him in for a hit (for Werner) after the international matches have ended and will put the armband on him. Haven't owned Son this season yet, but he looks lethal and better than ever. I would need a big sofa for the next 4 matches if I don't bring him in.

I think what changed is Mourinho has pulled hojberg back into holding mid and allowed the left back to provide width down the left, giving Son the license to occupy the inside left space. When kane pulls the centre back oop by dropping a little, Son's pace onto kane's through pass becomes a hot knife through butter. Kane has definitely surprised me in that playmaking role
Spurs may struggle getting a goal against teams who sit deep, but if they do get one early, flood gates may open from time to time if teams chase the game

Son-Kane-Bale could easily be title winning if the rest of the team can rise to it too.

I think Bale will have a Rodriguez-esque impact on Spurs, though with fewer 'assisting the assists' resulting in higher points for himself.

WC teams a few weeks ago contained double/triple City and or double Pool defence.
Now WC teams are looking much different. Crazy

I decided to do WC, what you guys think about this lineup? I am feeling like 3-5-2 give me much more options to make strong midfield, and stron defensive rotation.

                    Chilwell/Robertson/KWP/Dallas/Taylor

Rodriguez double rising within a few days of IB and playing Pool next is bonkers. Just saw the highlights. He scored two unmarked goals / tap-ins. Not saying he is not a great pick, but surely the timing couldn't be worse.. Not complaining though as I activated my wildcard and caught all risers. My prediction is that he will be outscored by both Grealish, Zaha, Havertz, Pulisic (if fully fit) and maybe even Trossard over the next four. Bold? Maybe. Unpopular opinion? Definetely

Don't think so. But it depends on whether he rises a third time or not. If he does I will be outpriced if I don't keep him in the team.
