Potentially late return for Rodríguez as Salah and Son get international break off

Mohamed Salah (£12.2m) and Son Heung-min (£9.0m) are two key Fantasy Premier League assets who will get some much-needed rest during the international break.

Neither Egypt nor South Korea have any competitive fixtures between now and Gameweek 5, very useful for their owners, or potential new buyers hoping to beat the price rise.

Salah’s compatriots are not involved in any action, South Korea’s ongoing response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is to restrict their international programme only intra-federation friendlies involving home-based players.

Salah’s Liverpool colleagues Sadio Mané (£11.9m) and Xherdan Shaqiri (£6.4m) are also missing the international break, although that is because they are currently self-isolating after positive COVID-19 tests.

Heavy backing for Salah in emerging top 10k FPL managers

An important task for Fantasy managers in the build-up to Gameweek 5 will be to monitor the travelling schedules players on international duty in other continents.

For the first time since the global pandemic began, South American players are flying to their home continent for all-important World Cup qualifiers.

Perhaps the most important of these is James Rodríguez (£7.8m), who will be in Chile playing for Colombia at 01:30 in the early hours of Wednesday, October 14.

After that big match, Everton’s in-form midfielder has to travel back to England in time to turn out for the Toffees in Saturday’s early Gameweek 5 kick-off.

Naturally, this same pressure will apply to Yerry Mina (£5.5m) while Liverpool and Brazil forwards Roberto Firmino (£9.3m) and Richarlison (£8.0m) will face the same around-the-world trip prior to the Merseyside derby.

Meanwhile, ahead of a 15:00 trip to Leicester on Saturday, two key defensive assets at Aston Villa in Emiliano Martínez (£4.6m) and Douglas Luiz (£5.0m) also face late-midweek South American World Cup qualifiers with Argentina and Brazil respectively.

While Mexico and Raúl Jiménez (£8.6m) are back in international action, their travelling schedule is much less gruelling. Both of their matches to be played before Gameweek 5 are taking place in the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, Australia’s fixtures have been postponed, which is good news for Mat Ryan (£4.5m) owners and a lack of matches for the USA allows Christian Pulisic (£8.3m) time to rest up for hosting Southampton in Gameweek 5.

Elsewhere, Raheem Sterling (£11.5m) recently pulled out of the England squad with a minor hamstring injury and two more Premier League players could end up dropping out of Gareth Southgate’s group.

Ben Chilwell (£5.6m) and Tammy Abraham (£7.3m) have had their arrivals at the England training ground delayed in connection with a social gathering that the two players reportedly attended over the weekend. The FA are waiting for the pair to complete last-minute COVID-19 tests.

Dates below are displayed based on UK kick-off times. For example, Brazil and Colombia’s final matches of the international break are to be played on Tuesday, 13th October locally, but these both take place in the early hours of Wednesday, October 14 in the United Kingdom.

I personally feel 3 is least “essential”. Still think KDB and Tara/robbo will come good over medium term. Kane/Son double up feels a little like points chasing in an unpredictable season. But maybe that just reflects my lack of dynamism as a manager!

Very hard to say! I'm going with Kane+Son until they start losing their explosiveness and getting Man City back in when they start clicking again.

0.1 extra can get you Aling/Dallas, both much better than Cooper... probably A for that reason

Already made my GW5 move... outgoing striker has been red arrow for a while and I didn't beat a previous drop, incoming duder is blue and should see a rise closer to deadline. 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 easy peasy.

Oh nothing quite so grand.... I had stacked my midfield so wanted a budget player up front. Nketiah fit that bill, as he played well last season, and Laca was maybe moving to Lazio at the time. Didn't work out. Traded in for Brewster who has now dropped out of U21 duty to focus on starting versus Fulham. With The Lord behind in an advanced midfield position I can see a lot of shots from range being pounced on, or any scrambles in the goal mouth rolling back for someone coming into the box to snaffle...

I was going to move Antonio to DCL a few weeks ago but a price rise for the latter blocked me. Won't go there now. Was never ever getting Werner. Amazing player but Chelsea are not remotely consistent.

saints have been solid. It's all very well saying they were bad v Spuds but not enough credit is given to how deadly Son was and how brilliant Kane was. Fat Frank's team have shown none of that quality yet

Disagree with Son and Kane deserving props for that game, Soton were stupid and kept playing such a ridiculously high line allowing Son to score 4 goals almost identically to each other. If Soton play high line again Werner will benefit imo... don’t plan on keeping Werner after that game though regardless

The quality of those passes very definitely deserves praise but regardless do you think Saints are gonna play exactly the same? So every time they come up against pacy forwards it's gonna be a bloodbath, or will they adapt?

That’s the thing, Soton failed to adapt then so I think why would they adapt now? They seem quite set on playing that high line which is something I don’t understand

because they've had plenty of training sessions since then. Can't look at one game and decide that's how it'll be for the rest of the season. Of course Werner can score but he's still a bad pick and until Chelsea hit their straps he will continue to be so

Training or not, they have slow centrebacks so not sure what they’re trying to achieve with a high line. You’re right Werner is a bad pick... I would remove him this week but don’t feel it’s worth a hit, will do on a free next week for Son.

Give credit when it's due. Nonetheless it was a good performance from Chelsea. It's never an easy game against teams who defend with 11 men. I'm sure everyone would be saying what a great performance by Chelsea if Werner had scored lol.

    TAA James ayling Taylor mitchell

You should have switched KDB with Salah before his price drop, and keep Sterling as he is getting more chances in the box lately.

I would also consider downgrading TAA to bring in Kane too if possible as without Alisson clean sheets are harder to come, plus Robertson seems to have more chances for returns lately. Have you used WC already?

      1. waltzingmatildas

Yeah I possibly should have, but don't like to move early.

Yes good move, though i'm going to risk going without any Liverpool defense on my activated WC. Will then rethink this when Alisson gets back by GW 7 - 8.

This will help me get Son and Kane, while I have already swapped KDB for Sterling, Rodriguez, Salah and Jorginho mids. Together with Kane I have DCL and Brewster.

My defence gets slightly stretched with Chilwell, Justin, Saiss, mings (Kilman 4.0)

          What do you think?

Thanks...Yes on paper defense does not look great but I've had a 'great' defense earlier and still dissapointed, so nothing to lose at this stage! Sitting on 600k lately when usually i'm between 200 - 400k at this time of the season...defense has hindered me too much.

I heard someone on the scoutcast talk about it last year (I think it was Joe), think he said he didn’t look into it too much because a shot needs to be on target to go in anyway or something similar to that, don’t quote me on that

For example Vardy's shots on target are very few so low XG but he is very clinical, so the few times he shoots he nearly scores all of them.

Of course but Lima/Santiago to Liverpool are still very long flights and the time zone changes and altitude effects the body regardless of what class you fly.

Frankly I can't believe anyone thought international football was a good idea right now.

Of course it is a long way to be sitting on your backside in any circumstances, but I kind of imagine that for really long flights like this they have rubdowns and do stretches and have isotonic whatevers rather than scrunched up drinking little cans of beer or rum and cokes while watching reruns of the Office.
The fact they are playing these games at all is of course utterly ludicrous as you have said.

Of those - Maupay (BRI attacking and pens); Antonio (I was a sceptic, but looks like his fitness issues might be behind him and WH looking surprisingly good, underpriced), Watkins (Villa strong and seems to know where the back of the net is).

    Re-post from yesterday:
Rage transferred Ryan, Adams + Mitro out for Guaita, Antonio + Maupay for -8
    Should I wildcard?

Main concerns are Liverpool's defence with Adrian, lack of Spurs attackers and rushing out Davies for Michael Keane instead of a Wolves defender (they had just lost 4-0 to be fair.)

    Current side:
    Guaita
    Justin | TAA | Keane
    Bruno | Zaha | KDB | Salah

Recency bias. They beat Southampton and Man United in their first two, set up defensively which allows Guiata to make easy saves and rack up bonus points and have a great run of fixtures coming up.

Ok - well if you not interested in him then I would go for Mendy of the options you listed. Really don't rate Pickford and wouldn't be surprised if he got dropped soon. He could be the difference between a top 4 finish for Everton this year.

Mendy has looked promising in his first two for Chelsea and Thiago Silva had a good second game on Saturday so the clean sheets should be coming. Also Mendy is a very good shot stopper and prevented 7 goals last season at Rennes (conceded 19 goals from an xGC of 26)

Embrace it, I love the fact there is no obvious template right now and lots of options that people can own.

People selling KDB just before Aguero is back in training and Pep said Jesus will be back after IB.

Going to end in tears and then people say there's a lot of random variance!

Exactly, a KDB haul vs Arsenal isn't variance.

Selling KDB is madness. He’s the best player in the prem. He’ll punish people very soon. He got a big haul vs Arsenal last time our.

Had him since GW1 hoping for a transfer...

But do we reckon Brewster starts most games for Sheffield?

Surely will. A lot of money spent and none of their other strikers seem to be able to hit a cow's arse with a banjo.

He's gotta play him surely. Not much option is there?

i don't see why not when the other strikers he's competing with are rubbish

Yep. They haven’t spent £20+ million for him to sit on the bench

Probably A - Kun and Jesus coming back, whereas I'd imagine Utd will still be terrible even with a 47 year old Cavani

No news, but guessing he just can't be mithered without pointless internationals.

Rage transferred in Son for Mahrez the other day. Didn't notice that i can do Mahrez+Werner to James to Kane. Is it worth a -8 to do those now, can Kane + James score 8 more than Son + Werner next week with Kane captain probably?

-8 is not often the right answer to anything

      Not worth a -8.

Can players who have left the league like Nyland still fall or are they locked?

I always thought they were red-flagged so therefore locked, but I could be wrong.
