Potentially late return for Rodríguez as Salah and Son get international break off

Mohamed Salah (£12.2m) and Son Heung-min (£9.0m) are two key Fantasy Premier League assets who will get some much-needed rest during the international break.

Neither Egypt nor South Korea have any competitive fixtures between now and Gameweek 5, very useful for their owners, or potential new buyers hoping to beat the price rise.

Salah’s compatriots are not involved in any action, South Korea’s ongoing response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is to restrict their international programme only intra-federation friendlies involving home-based players.

Salah’s Liverpool colleagues Sadio Mané (£11.9m) and Xherdan Shaqiri (£6.4m) are also missing the international break, although that is because they are currently self-isolating after positive COVID-19 tests.

Heavy backing for Salah in emerging top 10k FPL managers

An important task for Fantasy managers in the build-up to Gameweek 5 will be to monitor the travelling schedules players on international duty in other continents.

For the first time since the global pandemic began, South American players are flying to their home continent for all-important World Cup qualifiers.

Perhaps the most important of these is James Rodríguez (£7.8m), who will be in Chile playing for Colombia at 01:30 in the early hours of Wednesday, October 14.

After that big match, Everton’s in-form midfielder has to travel back to England in time to turn out for the Toffees in Saturday’s early Gameweek 5 kick-off.

Naturally, this same pressure will apply to Yerry Mina (£5.5m) while Liverpool and Brazil forwards Roberto Firmino (£9.3m) and Richarlison (£8.0m) will face the same around-the-world trip prior to the Merseyside derby.

Meanwhile, ahead of a 15:00 trip to Leicester on Saturday, two key defensive assets at Aston Villa in Emiliano Martínez (£4.6m) and Douglas Luiz (£5.0m) also face late-midweek South American World Cup qualifiers with Argentina and Brazil respectively.

While Mexico and Raúl Jiménez (£8.6m) are back in international action, their travelling schedule is much less gruelling. Both of their matches to be played before Gameweek 5 are taking place in the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, Australia’s fixtures have been postponed, which is good news for Mat Ryan (£4.5m) owners and a lack of matches for the USA allows Christian Pulisic (£8.3m) time to rest up for hosting Southampton in Gameweek 5.

Elsewhere, Raheem Sterling (£11.5m) recently pulled out of the England squad with a minor hamstring injury and two more Premier League players could end up dropping out of Gareth Southgate’s group.

Ben Chilwell (£5.6m) and Tammy Abraham (£7.3m) have had their arrivals at the England training ground delayed in connection with a social gathering that the two players reportedly attended over the weekend. The FA are waiting for the pair to complete last-minute COVID-19 tests.

Dates below are displayed based on UK kick-off times. For example, Brazil and Colombia’s final matches of the international break are to be played on Tuesday, 13th October locally, but these both take place in the early hours of Wednesday, October 14 in the United Kingdom.

Which way would you go with the WC?

    A) "Heavy one"

    Martinez/Martin
    Chilwell/5.5/5.5/Lamptey/4.0
    Salah/Sterling/Son/McGinn/Trossard
    Kane/DCL/Brewster

    B) "Balanced"

    Martinez/Martin
    Robo/Chilwell/5.5/Lamptey/4.0
    Salah/Son/Hamez/Grealish/4.4
    Kane/DCL/Maupay

At the moment i'm closer to A than B on wildcard, until I see a sign of defences tightening up it feels more advantageous to go with more funds in the forwards

The question is - is Sterling/KDB worth it?

Easy to say as I don't have them, but feel like the City premiums are ones to leave alone for now, but leave yourself able to jump on when they start firing (which they eventually will)

B looks much better. Reguilon for the £5.5m or a tasy punt on Dias for the same price

Hold. I don’t think Watkins will be consistent enough this season. Yes he scored 3 goals but looked very ordinary in their previous game.

Bought in Chilwell and Rodriguez for -4 this week as they seemed like musts.

Now I'm very tempted by Podence to Son for another -4.

In isolation I think it is a no brainer but would you -8?

Bringing in Rodriguez vs Liverpool just 3 days after playing for Colombia is a must?

Chilwell fit for one game playing for an unconvincing Chelsea side a must?

I dunno, I think your priorities are wrong.

Son is much more of a must than either of them imo. 9.0m second striker, who has scored 6 goals this season in the league for Spurs already with WHU bur BHA wba.

Chilwell was for a none playing James so yes I saw it as a must as I believe he'll do great at Chelsea and my bench cover wasn't good enough for James to rot on.

Rodriguez to be fair I didn't know about the Colombia situation at the time so ill take that comment. However he's looking like the heart of a very exciting Everton team for only £7.7m and I wanted to beat the price rise.

Either way I was pointing out they are done so you havnt really helped with the question at all.

Cheers fella, it will be between him and KDB for captain as well so if I do go Son that could help pay back the -4 as well

Son, JRod, Chilwell in that order in term of priority. Spurs next 4 games look very good. Plus Son has a break over next 2 weeks

You need to remove the thought that it is for a -8. The first -4 is done and is a spent cost. The Podence to Son (-4) is a new hit that if it doesn't pay for itself in GW5 should do so by GW6.

I wouldn't do those moves with your two FTs.

The priority for transfers should be to remove weak players not chase in form ones.

The weakest links in your team are Foden and Adams.

            I'd do Foden + Adams > Grealish + Maupay.

Agree about Adams and I'm starting to feel stubborn for holding him.

Foden I'm keen to hold though. He's going to continue to get a lot of minutes in that City team and they will come back firing and score 5 sooner rather than later.

In terms of value, TAA is in the same ballpark as Foden & even Adams so far.

Fair enough. If you have your priorities different then act on them.

But I think focusing on improving your team by removing the weakest links and improving them will yield bigger gains than chasing form players. We've already seen how badly that can backfire this season. Whereas shoring up your weaknesses with solid players will end up yielding bigger gains over the season imo.

B clearly a lot more balanced, and with Son in there you can get away with no Kane I think
Grealish another option for that Zaha/Barnes slot but would go Barnes for now

Focus on removing your weakest players.

To me, that looks like Adams and getting a better defense...

              Adams > Watkins
              Johnson > Reguilon

Would be probably what I'm doing.

I don't know why people like Chilwell more than Reguilon. Spurs have looked a more convincing side and have better fixtures than Chelsea. Reguilon is a beast and created 4 chances last game alone.

Don't chase the points. I know the fomo is real with Spurs but once their form/fixtures dry up your team will be in a much worse state chasing the points while you have Mitchell, Adams and Johnson weighing you down for weeks on end.

                - Doing quick transfers or pick team

I believe this game is more a Kane game.
Son is better in Open field, and if west ham can keep it tight Kane Will be needed inside the box

I would go Werner & Mitro to Kane and Antonio/Wilson/Watkins. Then I would deal with Doherty in next transfer window as i think he is not value compared to others out there.

                      I would keep your midfield..

Not sure anything is worth a -8 right now but as a general move going from Jiminez to Kane and downgrading TAA (as you already hold Robbo) to another attacking defender would definitely be an overall net gain in points for sure.

I have been trying to get a WC squad that includes all of the big hitters: Salah, Son, Kane, KDB but is a 3-4-3 formation with 3 premium strikers (which i prefer to the 3-5-2 with the benched cheap striker). Here it is:

                    Martinez
                    Saiss Castagne Chilwell
                    Son Salah KDB ASM
                    DCL Kane Antonio

                    Steer Bissouma Mitchell Kilman

To get to this squad, I have to forfeit Pool defence basically.

                    Thoughts?

After reading this article, a rested Salah(c) against Pickford & co. is starting to sound more appealing than taking a -4 to get Son(c). It feels like I keep coming up with excuses not to captain Salah each week, and it's hurting me.

I know Everton have the lowest xGC so far, but have played WBA, Palace, and Brighton; and West Ham also have a strong defensive record so far.

                    What are your thoughts?

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I have seen so few successful instances of hit-taking this season, people just can't predict anything accurately enough to make it worth a hit.

They have also played Spurs, the team with the highest xG in the league and got a clean sheet...

Furthermore, the derby at Goodison in the league is notoriously low scoring. Nobody has scored in that tie since 2016 and it was a 90+4 winner by Mane.

There is no way that Salah is the best captain option this week.

KdB vs ARS or Son/Kane vs WHU are both far better.

I'm aware of that stat, but it's 2020 and no team knows how to defend, it seems. And I'm certainly not capping KDB for a third week in a row, he and City need to show something better before I consider him for captaincy again.

TAA I believe. Even though much of the Pool attack has gone down the left side, TAA still has excellent stats and is on set pieces.

                    Who do you prefer?

                    ASM or Costa

                    Have Doucoure at the moment.

ASM for me. Leeds has a lot of point sharing going on. NEW more focussed through Wilson/ASM

                    Welcome your thoughts on:

Jimenez & Podence to Maupay & JRod (-4)

Worth doing or too knee jerk given Wolves still have great fixtures and can bounce back quickly??

Not this week and not for a -4. JRod has a long flight home after the IB and might not start

                    A) Kane, Semedo, Bissouma (343)
                    or
                    B) KDB, Saiss, Brewster (352)

Not much talk of Wilson on here? Good form and fixtures? Why are people preferring Maupay out of interest? I think both are good choices..

I'm looking to ship Wilson lol.

His fixtures are MUN wol EVE.

Those are not good fixtures. I think he'll get nothing out of that. He's done great with his opening fixtures that were whu BHA tot BUR but those next 3 are not good.
