Scout Network

The latest news and updates from the Scout Network

This week has been another busy one for the Scout Network and this regular round-up recaps what its members have been producing.

We are thrilled to announce that FPL Gameweek has joined the Scout Network this week. FPL Gameweek has been one of the most exciting additions to the FPL community, alongside fellow Scout Network member Live FPL, as it gives managers access to live in-play data updates.

FPL Gameweek allows Fantasy managers to track their points, their rivals’ points and managers’ live ranks during each Gameweek.

Using your FPL team ID or your team name to show your points, substitutions and rank in real-time, it negates the need to wait for an official game update.

FPL Gameweek is a great tool for assessing the impact of the decisions you have made and it enables you to see the weaknesses in your FPL team that you may need to rectify ahead of the next Gameweek deadline.

The FFS International branch of the Scout Network has also had a busy seven days.

This week saw the launch of commenting on the Arabic language part of the website and we are working on launching the Arabic language community articles to allow further growth of that initiative.

We have also now set up the FFS International page on our site.

You can read more about FPL Greece in the FFS International article.

The Scout Academy also had a busy month in September and you can read all about what they have been doing here.

If you would like to be part of the Scout Network or the Scout Academy, you can contact us here.

FPL Family

Alongside FPL Family’s normal Sunday evening live stream, last week Lee appeared on the Official FPL Podcast talking about all things Gameweek 4.

Sam also wrote her most recent Pro Pundit article on the importance of underlying stats and the eye test in deciding on what to do with your FPL players.

FPL Nymfria

Nymfria released her lasted video on her YouTube channel reviewing her Wildcard and also previewing Gameweek 4.

She also recorded her Fantasy Football Scout-sponsored Dream Team Stream, where the community helped to pick the team that they thought would make the FPL Dream Team for the coming Gameweek.

El Statto

This week, El Statto published two articles.

The first looked at the fallout of playing a Wildcard in Gameweek 3 when FPL returns were generally low and how it effected forward planning, while the second piece looked at hauls versus returns and who is best placed to return big.

FPL Poker Player

One of the newer members of the Scout Network, FPL Poker Player this week published his weekly FPL Poker Tables blog. The tables contain the usual mix of reviewing and contextualising the performance of his spreadsheet’s predictions from the previous Gameweek, and highlighting key points of interest regarding the upcoming Gameweek’s scoreline predictions, clean sheet probabilities, expected goals and player points.

FPL Poker Player also made his blog public for the first time. This is the first instance in which the FPL Poker Player spreadsheets are available for purchase, and season-long subscriptions have also been made available.

The betting-arm spin-off account from FPL Poker Player identified five bets that met the twin criteria of being consistent with his spreadsheet’s predictions and representing value at the current odds available.

We Are Brighton

The folks at We Are Brighton published their Gameweek 4 preview article (courtest of Fantasy Football Scout!), looking at the best Brighton assets for the week as well as a short review of the other FPL options and go-to captaincy options.

Spotlight: FPL Take the Hit

FPL Take the Hit is the culmination of two Australian brothers’ love of both the beautiful game and the Premier League.

Mick and Joff go live every Thursday evening at 8.30pm (Melbourne time)/11.30am (London time) on Youtube, with the subsequent replay and audio podcast version also available.

The FPL Take the Hit boys lay out their hilarious take on the FPL world with a dose of brotherly love, wisdom and positivity that will hopefully elevate managers to new levels.

With 14 years of experience under their belts and eight top 15k finishes, Mick and Joff love playing the game in their own style, taking hits and enjoying the ride, no matter whether a red or green arrow falls their way.

The one key principle that the boys share is a fearless attitude to playing FPL.

“Coming together once a week to talk FPL is what we do, we have done it for years now, so why not record it? I mean, we know what we are talking about, we are pretty funny fellows, I’m sure other managers will love listening to us ramble on, don’t you?”

“Yeah alright, let’s do this.”

This fateful conversation between the brothers bore the fruit of their first podcast over two seasons ago. That podcast has blossomed into a fully-fledged YouTube channel with interactive streams every week.

Mick runs the Twitter account while Joff runs the Instagram page.

FPL Take the Hit also have their own Patreon account.

This week. FPL Take the Hit have introduced a brand new live stream format, with interactive timed intervals for those managers that would like to skip to their favourite parts.

They have included all-new graphics and videos to make their live streams an even nicer experience for their viewers, by using a green screen to add to the quality of the content they produce.

As FPL Take the Hit always say: remember to stay positive, accept the reds and embrace those green arrows!

I hit the button, couldn't look at my team any longer. Team value is poor. Help me cut 1.4m from this WC team:

    Martinez, 4m
    Robertson, Chilwell, Saiss, Ayling, Mitchell
    Salah, Son, Pulisic, Rodriguez
    Kane, DCL, Maupay

Current option would be Pulisic to Grealish, but I think I much prefer Puli.

Another could be Maupay to Brewster. Could then upgrade 5th mid to ASM/Soucek.

          OK.
If we were going to get Tommy Wiseau (not a great move anyway) we have had weeks to do it. Is it not typical Utd to get him at last minute so he can't even play in next match because of self-isolation?

If you dont want to use other websites, go to points/pick team, on the right side click overall on global leagues, scroll down, go to next page (page2), then look at your URL, instead of the number 2 put 200 as the last number on the url and you're at the edge of top 10k, lol.

Chilwell not worth bringing in for a hit here? Not sure when I will have a spare FT to change James to Chilwell

    Martinez
    Digne James Justin
    KDB (c) Son Rodriguez Grealish
    Jimenez Ings Richarlison

Button Saiss Bissouma Ferguson 0FT 2.6 ITB

    On wildcard:

    A) Grealish, Maupay, Stephens (5th mid)
    or
    B) Pulisic, Brewster, Soucek/ASM

A would mean I have the same front 7 playing each week, B would mean rotation of Brewster & the 5th mid depending on fixtures/form.

    Thoughts?

      Thoughts on this wc?

      Martinez
      TAA Chilwell Ayling
      Salah Son Pulisic Rodriguez
      Kane DCL Maupay
      ____
      Steer Marcal Stephens 3.9

Main debate is Sterling/KDB vs Kane + 1.0. Not sure where to get that 1.0 from though. Chilwell to a 4.5 is an option ofc. Pulisic to Grealish is an option as well, but I feel like Grealish is pumped up to be something he is not. Great player, great FPL asset (value wise), but there are better picks in midfield imo

I think that's reasonable. Spurs have excellent fixtures and form for the next couple of weeks so a double up at the expense on a City mid is justified in my mind.

The stats comparison between them is quite similar.

Rodriguez wins by a small margin in all the big categories of xG, xA and xGI but loses in goal attempts, pen area touches (28 vs 5) and overall baseline BPS.

The fact Rod only has 5 penalty area touches, 2 of which are his goals, is pretty bad imo. He's more reliant on set pieces for chance creation.

Could be a different story this year as the recruitment at Villa has been pretty good. They've certainly bolstered their attacking threat so hopefully Grealish see's his assist numbers rise.. Definitely wise not to get too carried away with the Liverpool game though!

I am on WC as well and built my team on Kane-Son and Salah which means going without City with my team value. Given he has both form and fixture, Kane over KDB for the next 4 is a risk that can be taken so I would suggest not to try cutting 1.0 elsewhere. I like the team except Marcal pick because of the uncertainty of starts.

Arsene Wenger’s proposed changes to football:
          - Corners that go out of play but swing back in should be allowed.
          - Opportunity to take throw ins in your half as kicks.
          - Change of offside rule in favor of attacking players.

I think 1&2 makes sense but surely not 3 😆

"I would also like to change the throw-in rule: five minutes before the end, a throw-in for you should be an advantage, but in these situations you are facing 10 outfield players in play, whilst you only have 9. Stats show that in 8 out of 10 of those throw-in situations, you lose the ball. In your half of the pitch, you should have the possibility to take a kick instead."

I think 2 makes sense tbh

Actually, injury time only could be good.
And the match only ending when the ball goes dead after the final whistle, not on the whistle like rugby (I think).
                          And all FK being direct.

Every game would end up like Brighton/MU game from the other week.

It doesn't though because what about kicks during the middle of the game right on the halfway line?

Players like Digne and TAA basically get a free setpiece from it and it will seriously slow the game down because players will basically take up predefined positions after them.

Fair enough. It could also be used to waste time in the game when leading. He is just an attack minded person, he did not consider the defence aspect although I still like the first 2 options

All three of these are terrible. Throw ins have become a problem, but it’s easily resolved by requiring defending players to allow a distance from the thrower (10 yards?)

Starting without Salah is the worst decision I've made yet this season. And probably most of last season.

Come on.. Pick it apart. All WC.. Team set for the foreseeable.

                        Martinez

                        Robbo/Lamptey/Chilwell

                        Grealish/Son/Salah/Jrod

                        Kane/DCL/Watkins

                        (Soucek/Dallas/Mitchel)

                        0.9 itb.

On my latest WC attempt basically got rid or Kdb - brought Robbo in and strengthened bench with Soucek when fixtures get better...

Still prefer TAA over Robbo for some reason.

Prefer Maupay over Watkins. Villa double up offensively is too risky for my liking

No Man City is highly risky. I understand the attraction of the shiny new toys, but not having KDB is going to hurt.

Basically my current WC draft with a couple of differences in defense, so I like. As others have said, no KDB is a risk, but I feel this has the right 3 premiums for now. KDB will probably outscore one of Salah, Son or Kane, but I couldn't say which one...

I've had Barnes from the beginning. Although he has great stats, still he has blanked in 3 out of 4 gameweeks. Not exactly, but the situation is somewhat similar to that of Adams. He has great stats, but fails to deliver. Also Barnes has tricky fixtures coming up. The next 5 games, all of them look tricky for Leicester. I'm considering selling him to get Son! Your views on this?

Who else can make way for Son? I think Leicester can score in most of their next 5 tbh

                            1. Podence can make way for Son. 2. Also Adams can make way for Kane.

Both 1 & 2 would mean selling TAA. Have TAA + Robbo in my team.

Do people really think that KDB will replicate his tally from last year? I honestly think he is valued a tad to high this season.

Not if he keeps filling in the gaps in midfield and playing deep. It's why I picked Sterling over him

I don’t think so. The injury list at City is already affecting his points, when european competitions begin it will be even worse. Also he will get reduced minutes during games that period.

His overall points will be up there at the end of the season but not as last season imo

I don't share this pessimism. He made 20 assists last season playing from a deeper position. And he's on pens. He started this season in the #10 role.

Yes, he is priced quite high. Yes, absentees caused him to play a bit deeper, but after the humbling by Leicester, Pep will want him back where he is more effective.

With the signing of Dias, Gundogan back in training and Rodri/Fernandinho available to play holding midfield, KDB should be back among the points soon.

It was a record breaking season for him. No way he is gonna replicate those tallies this year.

                          Current team:

                          McCarthy
                          TAA Doherty KWP Justin
                          Salah KDB Rodriguez
                          Adams Werner Wilson

                          Steer ASM Mitchel Bissouma
                          2FT £1.7ITB

                          What is best option:
                          A: Adams/Werner/TAA > Saiss/Kane/Bamford -4pts
                          B: Adams/Werner/ASM/TAA > Saiss/Watkins/DCL/Son -8pts
                          C: Something else
                          D: Wildcard the lot

I don't like: Double Soton; Justin will lose his place when Pereira is back end-October; Doherty? Aurier played pretty well; is TAA 'necessary' this season? Forward line is not good, albeit nice to see something non-template. No Spurs attack, which is rampant at the moment.

I would veer towards B. of your suggested options.

                          Looks fine-ish. Would look into Wilson+Jorginho > Brewster+Grealish.

Not sure about Chelsea's line-up and Jorginho's place in it once Ziyech and Pulisic are fit and starting. He could still get in, and departures of RLC and Barkley have helped, but if Kante is dropped deeper to get the energy of Kovacic in alongside him, you might need a plan to replace Jorginho.

DCL. I like Grealish a lot, but with the form DCL is in and the strength of the Everton team, it has to be him.

Assuming it is a funds issue as they are FWD/MID, I would prefer Grealish. Depends also if you already have Hames.

Not the point I was making. If you have Brewster instead of DCL, your midfield options will be different. That said, I wouldn't want no Everton attackers. So in that sense, the myth is still alive.

Pulisic eventually, but will take him a while to build up match fitness and hence minutes. Would probably look at him from GW7.

He will certainly build fitness, but not match fitness. He had a Grade 2 hamstring tear, so Frank would be daft to risk him playing 90 minutes every game to begin with.

Be interesting to see who plays where once Werner-Ziyech-Pulisic-Havertz are all fit to start. Pulisic was playing #10 for much of last season when he got his goals/assists from, but Havertz is good there too, which could mean Pulisic is pushed wide.

Nice, pretty similar to my team.

Just realised countries are playing three times in eight days, two of which are competitive, and then premier league a few days later. Any transfers of anyone involved in these games now is really risky, unless as part of a wild card, as one's team is so likely to be affected by injuries.
