Scout Network

The latest news and updates from the Scout Network

This week has been another busy one for the Scout Network and this regular round-up recaps what its members have been producing.

We are thrilled to announce that FPL Gameweek has joined the Scout Network this week. FPL Gameweek has been one of the most exciting additions to the FPL community, alongside fellow Scout Network member Live FPL, as it gives managers access to live in-play data updates.

FPL Gameweek allows Fantasy managers to track their points, their rivals’ points and managers’ live ranks during each Gameweek.

Using your FPL team ID or your team name to show your points, substitutions and rank in real-time, it negates the need to wait for an official game update.

FPL Gameweek is a great tool for assessing the impact of the decisions you have made and it enables you to see the weaknesses in your FPL team that you may need to rectify ahead of the next Gameweek deadline.

The FFS International branch of the Scout Network has also had a busy seven days.

This week saw the launch of commenting on the Arabic language part of the website and we are working on launching the Arabic language community articles to allow further growth of that initiative.

We have also now set up the FFS International page on our site.

You can read more about FPL Greece in the FFS International article.

The Scout Academy also had a busy month in September and you can read all about what they have been doing here.

If you would like to be part of the Scout Network or the Scout Academy, you can contact us here.

FPL Family

Alongside FPL Family’s normal Sunday evening live stream, last week Lee appeared on the Official FPL Podcast talking about all things Gameweek 4.

Sam also wrote her most recent Pro Pundit article on the importance of underlying stats and the eye test in deciding on what to do with your FPL players.

FPL Nymfria

Nymfria released her lasted video on her YouTube channel reviewing her Wildcard and also previewing Gameweek 4.

She also recorded her Fantasy Football Scout-sponsored Dream Team Stream, where the community helped to pick the team that they thought would make the FPL Dream Team for the coming Gameweek.

El Statto

This week, El Statto published two articles.

The first looked at the fallout of playing a Wildcard in Gameweek 3 when FPL returns were generally low and how it effected forward planning, while the second piece looked at hauls versus returns and who is best placed to return big.

FPL Poker Player

One of the newer members of the Scout Network, FPL Poker Player this week published his weekly FPL Poker Tables blog. The tables contain the usual mix of reviewing and contextualising the performance of his spreadsheet’s predictions from the previous Gameweek, and highlighting key points of interest regarding the upcoming Gameweek’s scoreline predictions, clean sheet probabilities, expected goals and player points.

FPL Poker Player also made his blog public for the first time. This is the first instance in which the FPL Poker Player spreadsheets are available for purchase, and season-long subscriptions have also been made available.

The betting-arm spin-off account from FPL Poker Player identified five bets that met the twin criteria of being consistent with his spreadsheet’s predictions and representing value at the current odds available.

We Are Brighton

The folks at We Are Brighton published their Gameweek 4 preview article (courtest of Fantasy Football Scout!), looking at the best Brighton assets for the week as well as a short review of the other FPL options and go-to captaincy options.

Spotlight: FPL Take the Hit

FPL Take the Hit is the culmination of two Australian brothers’ love of both the beautiful game and the Premier League.

Mick and Joff go live every Thursday evening at 8.30pm (Melbourne time)/11.30am (London time) on Youtube, with the subsequent replay and audio podcast version also available.

The FPL Take the Hit boys lay out their hilarious take on the FPL world with a dose of brotherly love, wisdom and positivity that will hopefully elevate managers to new levels.

With 14 years of experience under their belts and eight top 15k finishes, Mick and Joff love playing the game in their own style, taking hits and enjoying the ride, no matter whether a red or green arrow falls their way.

The one key principle that the boys share is a fearless attitude to playing FPL.

“Coming together once a week to talk FPL is what we do, we have done it for years now, so why not record it? I mean, we know what we are talking about, we are pretty funny fellows, I’m sure other managers will love listening to us ramble on, don’t you?”

“Yeah alright, let’s do this.”

This fateful conversation between the brothers bore the fruit of their first podcast over two seasons ago. That podcast has blossomed into a fully-fledged YouTube channel with interactive streams every week.

Mick runs the Twitter account while Joff runs the Instagram page.

FPL Take the Hit also have their own Patreon account.

This week. FPL Take the Hit have introduced a brand new live stream format, with interactive timed intervals for those managers that would like to skip to their favourite parts.

They have included all-new graphics and videos to make their live streams an even nicer experience for their viewers, by using a green screen to add to the quality of the content they produce.

As FPL Take the Hit always say: remember to stay positive, accept the reds and embrace those green arrows!

That said, Chelsea will want (demand) a better CL showing this season and will keep some powders dry.

Although they have been given a relatively kind Group in the draw, their toughest opponent - Sevilla - is first up on 20 October so the 17 October team at home to Southampton will be interesting.

It will probably reflect who is fit to play after three internationals in ten days, and travelling about a lot in some cases.

There was a Chelsea supporter who wrote a really good reply to this the other week, which was very interesting.

Essentially Frank loves Mount. Absolutely loves him. As in, surrogate father type of love as he is the sort of player that presses the way Frank wants everyone to press in team.

The chap (sorry, forgot his name) said that it's likely that it'll be Kante/Mount/Havertz in a midfield three, with Ziyech/Werner/Pulisic up top. Four at the back which he loves.

Be very surprised if Mount is dropped for someone like Kov or Jorginho once Ziyech and Pulisic are fit.

(Don't let Jorginho's impressive points sway you at the moment. Misleading)

Not saying you’re wrong, but if Lampard does go for this, it would surely leave a huge gap in the centre? City got away with two attacking number 8s for a while because they were both tireless (esp KDB) but more importantly read the game brilliantly and rarely lost the ball. Havertz and Mount would have to be as good as peak Dilva & KDB to avoid them getting overrun in the middle?

Wood over-achieves - Burnley don't create much and this season look weak.

Double Liverpool defence?! Feels like last season's points.

I would rather have Bissouma over Podence, but not worth a hit.

Any Leeds fans/observers have views on who the Mid/Forward five will be after transfer day dealings?

Raphinha, Rodrigo to start? Who drops out if so? Costa, Harrison, Hernandez? Bamford? (less likely). Costa looks the most vulnerable. (Hernandez is injured, which 'complicates' judging the best starting eleven).

    1. Boly Would
      • 7 Years

      Bamford
      Harrison Rodrigo Klich Costa

I think Rodrigo could (should) come in for Roberts now. Harrison back in after missing Man City game. Costa probably most at risk to Raphinha but not just yet, although I've also been quite impressed with Poveda's (minimal) appearances so far.

It's easy to say Son as he's on fire and there are good value forward options in cheaper price brackets.

That said, if you go with Brewster in attack, Kane looks a better option, as forwards in the 9.0m range have been underwhelming so far (Martial, Jimenez, Jesus, Werner). Team looks more solid with Kane in it.

I think having a Liverpool is not strictly necessary if funds can be deployed well elsewhere. I'm not sure I would want Jorginho though.

Thanks. I've kept Jorginho just for the penalties....will be keeping him also on a WC as he served me well till now. 4 Penalties in 4 weeks (although he missed one when I benched him)...Chelsea seem to draw lots of penalties it seems. Is there anyone better than Jorginho for 5.1m ?
Front line consists of Kane, DCL and Brewster with exact funds.

Soucek at 4.9 is more likely to give you goals from open-play I would think.

Mahrez should be nailed for a few gameweeks I think. City need to score goals. He is a proven goalscorer. Plan is to switch to Pulisic when fully fit

Not sure he's nailed. Sterling, Foden, Bilva (now back fit again), Torres, Mahrez competing for places. But while Jesus is out he should get more game time.

Looks good, but I'm not sure I would go for Mahrez at this stage. I would either go for Pulisic, or go down to Grealish/Barnes price-point and upgrade a defender.

Pulisic was my pick at first.. Just worried about fitness. Don't want to change price structure of the team. When wildcarding this early it is important to spread funds around and get in most players on one FT going forward.

Yes you are also right about that. It's the only worry I have personally with not bringing in TAA or Robbo in defense. The rest are fine.

Small thing. Fix your sub keeper. With Heaton back, he will be third choice. Other 2nd choice keepers out there.

Dont like the Mahrez play. Never seems to get more than 2-3 games then disappears for a while.

Was looking at it but Kane and Son is too much spurs for me. There not going to score 5 every week with mourinho. Mahrez isn’t nailed either compared to sterling / KDB. Don’t fancy Brighton or Leeds to keep many clean sheets either

Official FPL just ran an interesting poll.

How do you rank this season?
      A) Toughest yet
      B) Usual challenges
      C) Piece of cake
      D) Don't ask

I think this has been unquestionably the toughest season I've played yet. Blanks in GW1 screwed up a lot of preseason planning. This lack of preseason hurt us badly in terms of knowing who the cheap fodders were/which teams would be good. It's been an extremely exciting/uneven season which means it's very unpredictable. Unpredictable is bad for FPL players. Great for entertainment though.

Furthermore, the pricing this year has been superb. By lowering the cost of the premiums, it has made it very hard to decide which premium players to go for and there's always a situation where you're leaving off someone who others might consider essential. We're seeing it in wildcards earlier and even now. I had to choose to go without TAA on Wildcard in GW3. This week, people are having to pick between Kane/KdB seemingly.

There are much fewer ever-presents. Only DCL is creeping into everyone's teams. Even Salah is still being left out by some.

Tough season. Very high variance so far.

It’s like this every year but just more so this year. I don’t remember a year where so many people wildcarded in GW2/3 either. Things should settle down after IB. On the other hand the league is a lot more balanced too. The only team who look like whipping boys are Fulham while in previous years there was always 4/5

It's still the same old point maximisation game with the same rules and constrictions. Just some crazy results so far and way more options to choose from right now. Really enjoying it now before the crazy results settle down and a template emerges.

There are too many premium and sub premium players performng at the moment, can't fit them all in (money and positions).

e.g. KDB, Sterling, Kane, Salah, Son - getting in all those 5 and you need 4.0's and 4.5's everywhere else and there are plenty of 6.5 to 8 assets that you'll want too.

So picking the right probably 2 maybe 3 of those 5 will be season defining I think.

On WC. Which team? The thing about having Kane is that I can swap him later for Aguero. But I also have doubts about having no city assets for another 2-3 GWs.

      Team 1 (0.8M ITB)
      Meslier
      Robbo Dallas Chilwell (Lamptey) (Branthwaite)
      Salah Grealish Son Pulisic (Alzate)

      Team 2 (0.5m ITB)

The plan is to swap Kane to Aguero for GW10.

On a wildcard who do you pick :

      A) Sterling / De Bruyne + Brewster
      B) Soueck/ Jorgino/ Bissouma + Kane

      Martinez - Button

      Robertson - Chilwell - Lamptey - Ayling - Mitchell

      Salah - Son - JRod (7.5) - Grealish - X

      DCL - Maupay - Y

Mitchell is also doubt, but less headache.

Sterling is good captain pick for next GW. Otherwise problem and if Brewster plays decent, that would be great. But I am so afraid of Kane and the next games he has while he is sort of in form.
