Scout Network

The latest news and updates from the Scout Network

This week has been another busy one for the Scout Network and this regular round-up recaps what its members have been producing.

We are thrilled to announce that FPL Gameweek has joined the Scout Network this week. FPL Gameweek has been one of the most exciting additions to the FPL community, alongside fellow Scout Network member Live FPL, as it gives managers access to live in-play data updates.

FPL Gameweek allows Fantasy managers to track their points, their rivals’ points and managers’ live ranks during each Gameweek.

Using your FPL team ID or your team name to show your points, substitutions and rank in real-time, it negates the need to wait for an official game update.

FPL Gameweek is a great tool for assessing the impact of the decisions you have made and it enables you to see the weaknesses in your FPL team that you may need to rectify ahead of the next Gameweek deadline.

The FFS International branch of the Scout Network has also had a busy seven days.

This week saw the launch of commenting on the Arabic language part of the website and we are working on launching the Arabic language community articles to allow further growth of that initiative.

We have also now set up the FFS International page on our site.

You can read more about FPL Greece in the FFS International article.

The Scout Academy also had a busy month in September and you can read all about what they have been doing here.

If you would like to be part of the Scout Network or the Scout Academy, you can contact us here.

FPL Family

Alongside FPL Family’s normal Sunday evening live stream, last week Lee appeared on the Official FPL Podcast talking about all things Gameweek 4.

Sam also wrote her most recent Pro Pundit article on the importance of underlying stats and the eye test in deciding on what to do with your FPL players.

FPL Nymfria

Nymfria released her lasted video on her YouTube channel reviewing her Wildcard and also previewing Gameweek 4.

She also recorded her Fantasy Football Scout-sponsored Dream Team Stream, where the community helped to pick the team that they thought would make the FPL Dream Team for the coming Gameweek.

El Statto

This week, El Statto published two articles.

The first looked at the fallout of playing a Wildcard in Gameweek 3 when FPL returns were generally low and how it effected forward planning, while the second piece looked at hauls versus returns and who is best placed to return big.

FPL Poker Player

One of the newer members of the Scout Network, FPL Poker Player this week published his weekly FPL Poker Tables blog. The tables contain the usual mix of reviewing and contextualising the performance of his spreadsheet’s predictions from the previous Gameweek, and highlighting key points of interest regarding the upcoming Gameweek’s scoreline predictions, clean sheet probabilities, expected goals and player points.

FPL Poker Player also made his blog public for the first time. This is the first instance in which the FPL Poker Player spreadsheets are available for purchase, and season-long subscriptions have also been made available.

The betting-arm spin-off account from FPL Poker Player identified five bets that met the twin criteria of being consistent with his spreadsheet’s predictions and representing value at the current odds available.

We Are Brighton

The folks at We Are Brighton published their Gameweek 4 preview article (courtest of Fantasy Football Scout!), looking at the best Brighton assets for the week as well as a short review of the other FPL options and go-to captaincy options.

Spotlight: FPL Take the Hit

FPL Take the Hit is the culmination of two Australian brothers’ love of both the beautiful game and the Premier League.

Mick and Joff go live every Thursday evening at 8.30pm (Melbourne time)/11.30am (London time) on Youtube, with the subsequent replay and audio podcast version also available.

The FPL Take the Hit boys lay out their hilarious take on the FPL world with a dose of brotherly love, wisdom and positivity that will hopefully elevate managers to new levels.

With 14 years of experience under their belts and eight top 15k finishes, Mick and Joff love playing the game in their own style, taking hits and enjoying the ride, no matter whether a red or green arrow falls their way.

The one key principle that the boys share is a fearless attitude to playing FPL.

“Coming together once a week to talk FPL is what we do, we have done it for years now, so why not record it? I mean, we know what we are talking about, we are pretty funny fellows, I’m sure other managers will love listening to us ramble on, don’t you?”

“Yeah alright, let’s do this.”

This fateful conversation between the brothers bore the fruit of their first podcast over two seasons ago. That podcast has blossomed into a fully-fledged YouTube channel with interactive streams every week.

Mick runs the Twitter account while Joff runs the Instagram page.

FPL Take the Hit also have their own Patreon account.

This week. FPL Take the Hit have introduced a brand new live stream format, with interactive timed intervals for those managers that would like to skip to their favourite parts.

They have included all-new graphics and videos to make their live streams an even nicer experience for their viewers, by using a green screen to add to the quality of the content they produce.

As FPL Take the Hit always say: remember to stay positive, accept the reds and embrace those green arrows!

Any chance Button could be picked in goal ahead of Johnstone in WBA leaky defence? (May be useful bench fodder on wild card?)

Can see you are scrimping of late 😆

No 4.0 GKs likely. If McCarthy's form continued to be poor after GW2, Forster may have been worth a shout - but two CSs in a row now.

Brewster is the cheap forward to have, if you need one.

Mitchell still the best cheap DEF. Fergusson an option once he's fit, but that could be ages. Braithwaite (won't play) is 3.9m. Kilman/Dunne/Johnson will only get game time through injuries to others.

    Need transfer advice. 1FT.

    Current team:

    McCarthy
    Robbo - Saiss - Justin
    Salah - KDB - Zaha - Barnes
    Jimenez - Ings - DCL

Bench: Forster - Lamptey - Mitchell - Stephens

    0.1 ITB.

Should I save my transfer for now or is there an obvious move?

My reasonings for currently keeping the two players which probably most people will advocate to get rid off:

    - Zaha - He's got a strong run of fixtures coming up, potentially penalties, playing OOP up front.
    - Barnes - Marginally offside goal, very direct player, takes a lot of shots.

    Thanks all! 🙂

Thanks both. Yeah Zaha is a very streaky player, I'm just hoping in the midst of this chaotic season that he grabs a few goals over the next few fixtures and then inevitably he'll be replaced soon. Just need something whilst I have him. And yeah, as for the Spurs players most notably Kane and Son, they are the obvious omissions but I'd have to break the balance of my team to accommodate them therefore, for now, I'm just thinking of holding and see where I'm at closer to the deadline. Cheers

Palace fixtures are fantastic. I almost included Zaha in my WC but it didn't quite fit in my best draft. Went for Sakho at the back instead. Def wouldn't be taking Zaha out if I had him though.

    McCarthy
    TAA Robbo Semedo Shaw Ferguson
    Salah KDB Podence Soucek Bisoumma
    Werner DCL Mitrovic

I know I should probably Wildcard but I’d rather wait as it’s just been so crazy so far. Mitro fixtures look okay and I’d like to keep Werner for Southampton

    So looking at
    A) TAA + Podence -> Ayling/ Lamptey + Son (-4)
    B) Shaw -> Chilwell

    Thoughts?

Yeah ideally they wouldn’t be in my team but I don’t want to wildcard. Werner Mitro Soucek are worth hits to ditch so it’s Shaw -> Chilwell or take a hit to fit a spurs player in to captain

This season of is so good for some and so bad for others because there has already been big hauls for some of the players. If you own them you are off to a flier. Rest of the people might be chasing you for the whole of season.

    Actual FPL team:

    Martinez - Ryan
    Mitchell - Saiss - TAA - Digne - Castagne
    KDB - J.Rodz - Zaha - Alzate - Son
    DCL - Jimmy - MItrovic

    ItB: 1.9

Agree with this. Not sure Spurs will fancy the way West Ham setup (as in the 1-1 with Newcastle) and while Spurs will probably win it, not sure it will be a big scoreline. While I'll probably leave KDB out on the wildcard, I think he could score very well this week. Still think Kane & Son does better over the next few.

On a WC and not taken any notice of the current template on here and anywhere else, but I've ended up with a pretty template team. Any ideas?

    McCarthy - 4m

    Digne - Chilwell - Reguilon - Dallas - 4m

I think a couple of punts in a template team is the best strategy. Could say my defence is a little punt compared to most. Just the big holes that are a Man City mid and a Pool defender.

Pretty big holes - if Kun back soon can do Harry to him.
Kai and Digne would be wriggle room for me.

I think there's better 4.5s but if your going without Liverpool you need to beef up your defence with at least another good attacking defender in my opinion.

Anyone looking at Rodrigo? Leeds attack look like it could provide exceptional value and he looked very good when he came on against City. Presumably he is just working up minutes. Or is Bamford going to retain starting berth and be the go to cheap forward for Leeds?

Loads of options in that bracket, at moment by preference would be Antonio or Maupay if you can stretch, though Rodrigo, Bamford, Watkins, and Mitro all in running as competition for Wilson as next best.

      My striker value list is:

      DCL > Kane > Jimenez > Watkins > Ings > Maupay > Antonio

Antonio will likely shoot right up once these bad fixtures are over. Anyone other than these guys is a no thanks from me until we see more/the fixtures/form change.

What do you think about this wildcard team:

    Martinez
    Chilwell Lamptey Ayling
    Sarah KDB Son Rodriguez
    DCL Kane Watkins

Steer - Oriol Romeu, Mitchell, Kilman

I was thinking about that about billion times already. I want all of them but it limites defence and bench by a lot.

Who would you drop? My preference would be to drop Kane.

Cant't see the value in Vardy when you have cheap in-form strikers like DCL, Wilson, Antonio, Bamford and Watkins around. Even Ings, Jimenez, Richarlison are better value IMO. And I'm not a fan of the Chilwell pick, but I guess he's firmly on the bandwagon. I fear Mitchell will lose his place fairly soon, so wouldn't include him on a WC.
Rest of the team looks great!

On a WC myself, and I think it's important to think long term aswell as getting the in-form players. So I can't really see myself going without TAA/Robertson and KDB/Sterling.

If I decide I'm willing to TC a City player, they'll likely have a DGW19 of CRY and AVL, both at home (AVL being the rescheduled GW1 fixture).

Salah would be more guaranteed the 180 minutes though, so maybe him in a DGW.

Please explain to me why Chilwell is in every WC team. Kneejerking after 18 points on his debut?
Do you really trust that Chelsea defence to keep 12-15 clean sheets?
He came from a pretty attacking(yet defensivly solid) Leicester team, and his best FPL season brought 118 points with 0 goals and 5 assist.
3 goals, 3 assist last season in a team that came 5th. Is he suddenly turning in to Roberto Carlos after putting on a Chelsea shirt?

    1. Fit_to_drop
      • 4 Years

Good post with good stats quoted. I think its a reaction to Robertson and TAA being priced so highly with Allison now out. Secondly, Clean sheets are now rarer than every before due to the home advantage being removed with no crowds. So if CS's arent as widespread it becomes a question of who can deliver attacking returns and for 5.5m he seems good value at that price level in a team that is more attacking than most.

I can see that point, but will he be as attacking when James plays on the right? Surely Emerson, Alonso and Azpi will get some gametime on that left-hand side. Wouldn't cheaper attacking full backs like KWP, Lamptey, Ayling/Dallas, Masuaku be better value-picks?
