Meet the FPL Manager – Graeme Sumner (Gregor)

Meet the Manager is back, as Joe once again catches up with a Fantasy Premier League manager with an outstanding track record of success.

This time Joe meets Graeme Sumner, who is known by many in the Fantasy Football Scout community as Gregor.

With six top 10,000 finishes, including three within the top 1,000, Graeme is no stranger to ending a season strongly.

He also has experience of being within a whisker of winning FPL, after ending 2016/17 in 29th spot.

During this latest Meet the Manager chat, Graeme reveals his strategies for success. This includes being aggressive in pursuit of a good captaincy option, especially low-owned assets. With hat-trick heroes Santi Cazorla and Yaya Toure among his most successful captaincies in the past, Joe is obviously keen to find out who Graeme plans to hand the armband to in the coming weeks.

Joe discovers the importance of the eye test for Graeme, as well as his tactics for avoiding the growing ‘noise’ on social media and elsewhere as millions more join FPL each year.

Finally, Graeme reveals his Gameweek 5 plans, with more low-owned gems in his thought as he targets another strong finish in his already stellar career.

This chat is available as a video and podcast below. The previous Meet the Manager videos can be found here.

Ings + Barnes (or Zaha) —> Son + Wilson (or Maupay if I take out Zaha) for a -4?

    Rest of team:
    Martinez
    TAA / KWP / Lamptey
    Salah / KDB / Zaha / Barnes
    Jiminez / DCL / Ings

    Bench: Button, Taylor, Bissouma, Michell

I like it! Wilson is definitely coming into my team for GW 7 and I’m wondering whether to take a -4 this week to bring in son for a few games as they have great fixtures

      None of those.

      Highly reactionary transfers.

Good shout, I have my eye on

        Kane -> Wilson/Antonio
        Soucek/Bissouma -> Chelsea mid

So my original team fits better to that plan.

    B) KDB, Foden, Brewster - Kane, Grealish/Rod, Bisso
    C) Havertz - Grealish, Foden - Rod next GW

All of those move could bite you in the ass!
Brewster I’d keep just to see how he gets on against Fulham.
I’d maybe just get rid of one of the wolves double up in defence and then reassess next gw with 2FT again.

Could just do KDB & Brewster to Kane and Bisso. Save the -4. Yeah appreciate that the year we're having this could definitely backfire but thinking with Aguero/Vardy around moving from a 352 to a 343 could be the way to go. Hopefully look at bringing in Antonio for Jiminez and getting in Robertson then GW8

not the best season to have a strong defence lmao. I'm strongly considering massive downgrade from TAA to maybe a 4.5 and use the 3+1 = 4mil in bank to upgrade werner to kane this week and next week FT on a klich to pulisic upgrade. (-8 hit tho for this week)

Hold and upgrade Werner to Kane next week for a -4 if needed. With Pulisic back and *potentially* Ziyech back, Werner may start banging goals in and you may not even want to transfer him out. There is every chance that won't happen, but at least you are getting Kane for a -4 and not a -12.

Next week you can upgrade or downgrade Werner for (-4)

        Maybe too early for Pulisic.
Kane sounds great, but I'd wait until later in the week, or course.
Don't be too early to dump Alexander-Arnold. Adrian gone is good reason, but he's not performing any worse than GW1-3.

Hows this looking on a WC guys?

      McCarthy Button
      Dallas Chilwell KWP Ferguson Digne
      Salah Son Grealish Sterling Hames
      DCL Maupay Brewster

no clue, will probably go with salah though this week. expecting merseyside to be high scoring since everton defence isn't the strongest and adrian in goal is likely to result in a couple goals at least.

might do it next week with a FT. werner for watkins and actually romeu for pulisic. can keep klich in and rotate somewhere on the pitch

Not yet I don't think. Still a -8 hit taking a premium player out (even if he has done nothing "premium-worthy") Pulisic is a definite transfer in at some point but I would be inclined to give him a week or two before that happens.

Ha, true. I hadn't seen your comments back then, but sounds like a logical advice! I only have Martinez at the moment and am trying to figure out ways of upgrading Podence to Grealish as my 5th mid in a 3-5-2. I can go super crazy in the near future doing Jimenez + Podence > Watkins + Grealish. Would definitely like to give Jimenez a bit longer first though as it does feel a bit too knee-jerky transfer plan

Mate, as if your team ID is 37! Love it, you must have been refreshing that page constantly when the game was due to launch 😀

As far as defensive options go this year - he is as good as any. Don't know how nailed he would be but most likely he is second in the pecking order and would partner Laporte most games if fit. Good luck, hope it pays off for you!

damn I was posting on ffs on that time. I could have a one digit ID.
          my last 3 IDs: 37-30-2 !
the only reason he is not popular is because city conceded!
imagine a 1-0 win for city.
then you would see dias in every single RMWCT !

That's an impressive ID record! Hoping Dias + Laporte cement themselves as the 2CBs in which case Dias a better option and use the £0.5 elsewhere. Do something similar with Robbo over TAA and all of a sudden you have an extra £1.0 to play with while still having decent Man City and Liverpool defensive cover!

As a side note, I am fully aware that Laporte is the most cemented CB in City. Meant both of them together as a good partnership combo 😀

thanks. can't decide between defenders really.
              reguilon, chilwell, dias and TAA/VVD/Robbo
at first I had all 4 of them on WC. but now it seems I must sacrifice one to get grealish.
don't know whether it worth it or not

I would go with back 3 of Chilwell, Robbo, Reguilon (if fit) to start with. Reasom being, I would like to give Dias a couple of games and asses. After that ditch Reguilon for Dias for example if you think it is a transfer worth doing.

I’m seriously considering a Villa double up of Grealish and Watkins on wc. Part of me thinks this is points chasing (they won’t score 7 against Liverpool every week!), but then three wins out of three this season, they are bang in form, and look good value. Crazy?

I'd get rid of Bruno. I also have Salah and KDB and I think I'm going to hold tight with KDB even though I've been toying around with he idea of swapping Son in for the next 3-4 GW's and then bringing back in. Fair enough City have Arsenal next and Liverpool in GW8, but in between those two, they haev West ham and Sheffield United, which are nice potentially goald-rich games.
