Meet the FPL Manager – Graeme Sumner (Gregor)

Meet the Manager is back, as Joe once again catches up with a Fantasy Premier League manager with an outstanding track record of success.

This time Joe meets Graeme Sumner, who is known by many in the Fantasy Football Scout community as Gregor.

With six top 10,000 finishes, including three within the top 1,000, Graeme is no stranger to ending a season strongly.

He also has experience of being within a whisker of winning FPL, after ending 2016/17 in 29th spot.

During this latest Meet the Manager chat, Graeme reveals his strategies for success. This includes being aggressive in pursuit of a good captaincy option, especially low-owned assets. With hat-trick heroes Santi Cazorla and Yaya Toure among his most successful captaincies in the past, Joe is obviously keen to find out who Graeme plans to hand the armband to in the coming weeks.

Joe discovers the importance of the eye test for Graeme, as well as his tactics for avoiding the growing ‘noise’ on social media and elsewhere as millions more join FPL each year.

Finally, Graeme reveals his Gameweek 5 plans, with more low-owned gems in his thought as he targets another strong finish in his already stellar career.

This chat is available as a video and podcast below. The previous Meet the Manager videos can be found here.

My alternative draft but with the TAA/Robbo double up... I know it's unfashionable, but what do we think of:

    McCarthy (Forster)
    Robbo Saiss TAA (Mitchell 4.0)
    Salah Son Grealish Foden (Bissouma)
    DCL Kane Wilson

    It essentially comes down to:

    A) TAA + Foden + 4.0 DEF
    B) Chilwell + Rodriguez + Lamptey

Rather have Rod James over foden

Do u think Trent or richarlison falls in price before their matches. Don't want a surprise haul from both of them cuz can't get them in afterwards if they don't fall. 0.1 off so far. A saiss rise in price could help too i guess

I don't think he's better than Chilwell. Chilwell took corners on both sides and was in the box a lot. But Zouma is a good pick by himself for sure.

the lad only has 20 senior games at Championship level under his belt, hasn’t started a game since July (friendly) and will get maybe one or two training sessions with his team mates before the next game ... he won’t be match fit at all ... so he had better score that one half chance he will get 😉

From the eye test, they created plenty of chances in the second half against Wolves, hit the woodwork, unlucky not to score. Similar story against Leeds where, were it not for Meslier's heroics, they would have come away with at least a goal. I have Brewster, and am seriously considering starting him against Fulham. He'll definitely feature, whether or not he will start - I hope we will find out closer to the deadline.

In terms of starting him regularly in FPL, we'll have to wait and see.

Ings + Barnes (or Zaha) —> Son + Wilson (or Maupay if I take out Zaha) for a -4?

    Rest of team:
    Martinez
    TAA / KWP / Lamptey
    Salah / KDB / Zaha / Barnes
    Jiminez / DCL / Ings.

    Bench: Button, Taylor, Bissouma, Michell

Only WBA have created fewer big chances than them of the sides to have played 4 games this season. They were pretty anaemic in front of goal post lockdown IIRC too.

It is just typical Spurs I think. Are they the side that dismantled the United and Soton high lines or the ones that struggled v Everton and Newcastle to an extent?

I fear Kane as his all round game is an avenue to points. Son I think is more hot and cold if out on that left. Bale may change the picture a bit but how is hard to tell.

they could be injured by then, out of form, dropped or useless and WHU could have a huge dip in form ... personally I would deal with today on a WC and get players I am happy with now and let GW8 deal with itself because you will have no idea what will happen between now and then

    Options are:
    A) Adams to Antonio - Chelsea defence with Kepa might be suspect. Stats aren't too bad for Adams
    B) Bruno to Son - West Ham are defensively pretty solid right now. Man U looking bad. Newcastle should be a good fixture, and Bruno has still brought in points.
    C) Sterling (have KDB) to Mane - Everton look good defensively so might not be too easy.
    D) Sterling to ????? (Trossard / Grealish / any other suggestions)?

    What do you reckon?

Think I've narrowed my 4-man benching headache down to 2. Which one would you bench out of:

    A. Ayling (WOL)
    B. Saiss (lee)

      I'd bench Ayling.

Cheers. Any particular reason that leads you to that? I could certainly see Wolves playing very defensively/counter attacking vs Leeds

Yeah, could be wrong, but I actually think this type of game will suit Wolves.

Sit a bit deeper, keep it compact and tight, and use Traore's pace on the break.

Yeah, I think I agree. Only problem being that Ayling has been posting some decent attacking stats so feel I should be playing him in a home match against a not in great form Wolves

Something to be aware of, Leeds might use that 3 at the back, hybrid system they used against Sheff Utd's 3-5-2, if Wolves were to go down that route. That would mean Ayling tucking in. I don't think it's that likely, just something to monitor on the run up in case we get any clues.

50/50 I have both and playing both over Digne, think both have a chance of attacking returns..

I'm playing Digne currently... just because he plays down Liverpool's dodgy flank where teams have been decimating them

When Puli returns, will Werner play upfront?

If yes, who's the better pick then?

Pulisic is a bit of a risk being that he hasn't played yet, but I'd say I do fancy him more

Yeah, I do like Barnes, but Grealish is on another level right now. You can effectively buy him, and fingers crossed leave him in till GW15. Fixtures are really appealing.

    Conundrum:
    Would you rather have:

    A) Balanced team/bench and a good defence with Rodriguez
    B) No bench, weak defence with KDB

A would be sensible... but won't KDB eventually massively outscore Rod?

    1. NABIL - FPL otai
      • 11 Years

      Neither

I'd want a Balanced team/bench and a good defence with KDB

Think my WC has come down to this...

    Martinez / 4.0
    Lamptey / Mitchell / KWP / xxx / xxx
    Salah / KDB / Son / Hames / xxx
    Maupay / DCL / xxx

    Which option looks best?

    A: Saïss / TAA / Soucek / Watkins
    B: Chilwell / Robbo / Soucek / Watkins
    C: Chilwell / TAA / Barkley / Brewster
    D: something else...

    Any help much appreciated

I’d play digne over Saïss or Ayling personally, The Merseyside Derby has been tight recently and he’s always an attacking threat if there is goals.
