Captain Sensible

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 5?

Jan Sienkiewicz was the king of the Fantasy Premier League captaincy in 2019/20, scoring a whopping 657 points from the armband, the second-highest in the whole world. He’s here to help once again, this time assessing the Gameweek 5 options.

The first international break of the 2020/21 season has given Fantasy managers plenty of time to weigh up captaincy decisions for the upcoming
Gameweek 5.

October 4, 2020 will come down as one of the most remarkable days in Premier League history, as the two most successful teams in English football conceded 13 goals combined.

However, despite the heavy 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa, Liverpool’s ‘Egyptian King’ Mohamed Salah (£12.2m) still came away with a 13-point return and is once again favoured by Fantasy managers.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur duo Harry Kane (£10.6m) and Heung-Min Son (£9.1m) are tipped to deliver against West Ham United on the back of an impressive victory at Old Trafford.

As per usual, the Captain Sensible article previews the most important upcoming games and assesses each of the best options, while also using data from the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area.

Captain Poll

captain-sensible-gameweek-5

Liverpool’s Salah, as well as Tottenham Hotspur’s Kane and Son, appear to be the three players at the centre of this week’s debate – with the trio gaining a combined 63.9% of our users’ votes in the Captaincy Poll.

Further down the list, Manchester City midfielders Kevin De Bruyne (£11.6m, 6.4% of votes) and Raheem Sterling (£11.5m, 3.1%) have not gained a lot of attention ahead of their match against Arsenal. Similarly, it seems like, despite the impressive form of Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.6m, 5.1%) and Richarlison (£7.9m, 3.5%), Fantasy managers are wary of an ongoing goal drought by the Toffees in the Merseyside derby matches of recent years.

Surprisingly, none of the Chelsea or Manchester United assets are being
considered by the majority of our voters. Are we perhaps overlooking some
exciting picks? Let’s have a look at this week’s crucial fixtures.

    WC team GTG? 0.2 ITB

    Martinez

    Telles, Semedo, Lamptey (Dallas, Mitchell)

    Salah, Son, Pulisic, Ziyech, Greenwood

    Kane, DCL (Brewster)

Not a fan of Greenwood or Telles. The fixtures aren't there. GW could also be randomly rotated if they decide to play Cavani or Ighalo upfront with Martial and Rashford on the wings or something. Telles compares pretty unfavorably with Chilwell and Reguilon imo. Both are better at the same/similar price.

I'd also get Grealish on WC for sure. Clean run of games, highly creative with some proper finishers next to him this season.

Pick one of Pulisic/Ziyech not both imo.

Agree with these points. Maybe Hamez instead of Ziyech?

United seems super unstable right now, and thats coming from a United home boy

Cheers. It's purposefully kind of punty because there are a few I'm sceptical of in that WC template. Points taken.

If you like being punty, I think Greenwood is actually a decent option, especially in the short term with Martial 3 game suspension.

Possibly a 1 week place holder for Hamez - Cavani not eligible so I reckon he'll play at 9 or part of front 2

His stats from open play are a bit poor this season. Obviously with penalties they're better, but the non-penalty xGI puts me off a bit.

FFS and Fix RMT tools are really far apart right now -- Fix is now actually suggesting Hamez for my captain this week, while FFS RMT prefers KDB/Salah over Everton options by a wide margin. I guess Fix must be more reactive to recent performance.

sorry for RP, got bottomed! Kind of at a loss here with my FT, 1.7M ITB:

    Martinez
    James - Saiss - Lamptey
    KDB - Salah - Hamez - Foden
    Werner - DCL - Jimenez

    Mitchell - Dunne - Burke

    A) Take hit, Werner + Foden out for Son/Pulisic + Watkins/Maupay or something similar
    B) Single transfer: Foden to Trossard/Grealish, Werner to Kane, or Upgrade James to Robertson

People are still fairly sceptical about Leicester, especially with their fixtures, and Castagne costs 0.2 more.

      2. Klaren
        • 6 Years

Chilwell has better fixtures but Castagne is a better pick regardless. Chilwell is an injury prone player playing under a manager who has a terrible defensive record and has limited attacking potential compared to Castagne, especially when Ziyech comes in as he'll lose the set pieces.

I’d lose Justin, he doesn’t offer enough to be booking in a defensive transfer with Mitchell on his way out and Reguillon possibly an occasional rotation risk. I own Zaha but wouldn’t bring him in on a wildcard - maybe Grealish instead?

ya. Why Podence to Soucek? Good set of games coming and should start.

That would be dubious looking at fixtures.
Freeing up itb would be the only reason.

If I could only have 1 Villa player would probably be Watkins. I have him since GW 2 and got Martinez and Grealish on WC this week

I went with Robertson. His stats look great and that extra 0.5 is handy

      Team a bit of a shambles. Already taken a -4 (Werner & Adams -> Kane & Brewster)

Any advice...? I'm still clinging onto the WC with dear life - fires to put out but not certain it's time!

      McCarthy (Steer)

      TAA, Robbo, Taylor (*Davies, *Mitchell)

      Salah, *KDB, James, Trossard (Bissouma)

      Kane, *Mitro, Brewster

Concerned about starts for Davies & Mitchell and Brewster as a week in, week out starter.

Sorry for the rambling but any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Definitely doesn't warrant a WC IMO. Isn't Mitchell good for another week or so? In that time you'll have a better idea about Brewster. Don't stress

Thanks, I think this is why I am holding off myself.

I went against my normal play making early transfers as my TV is horrible, but kinda wishing I'd held out now.

Bissouma off the bench this week may not be so bad and if Mitchell/Davies don't start, Mitro blanks (again), maybe I can pull the trigger next week.

        Hi Johan,
No need to panic imo, play mitro against Sheffield and let everything else as it is if kdb is not playing you got bissouma of the bench and i believe Brewster is going to be playing they spend 23 million for him crazy not to have him on the pitch. But i wild carded myself and it did feel quit refreshing less stressful while i usually would wait at leased to the second ib. It's up to you man team is not in to bad shape.

Thanks man, appreciate the advice. Think I'll sit tight now and give myself another week's data. Praying for a miraculous Liverpool win and CS (also a Liverpool fan) to give myself a nice swing.

Good luck with your new WC!

Thanks man ...though I am pretty aggressive playing wise could swap players out of WC in no time slashing the hits out until I feel good and got the team I want at leased for a little while....hahaha.anyway good luck to you aswell
