International Football

How many minutes did FPL assets play over the international break?

A busier-than-usual international break has come to an end and the Premier League players who were in action for their respective homelands have gradually returned to England ahead of Gameweek 5.

Some nations crammed in a triple-header of games over the last fortnight, with a handful of Fantasy assets taking part in all three of their country’s matches.

Fatigue is certainly a concern ahead of the Premier League’s resumption, be it through on-field exertions on the continent or due to long-haul flights back from further afield.

In this article, we’ll round up how many minutes each FPL asset clocked up while on international duty.

MOST MINUTES PLAYED

To the best of our knowledge, these were the players who racked up the most minutes over the international break:

FURTHEST TRAVELLED AND LATEST RETURNEES

Most of the matches that took place over the international break, including the friendlies involving the African teams, Mexico and Japan, were staged in Europe.

There were a number of World Cup qualifiers held in South America, however, so the likes of James Rodriguez (£7.8m), Richarlison (£7.9m), Roberto Firmino (£9.3m) and Alex Telles (£5.5m) have had to endure long-haul flights back from their respective countries after being in action in the early hours of Wednesday morning (UK time).

Everton and Liverpool, of course, meet in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off at Goodison Park.

The South American countries weren’t the last ones in action, however, with a host of European teams – including England, Scotland, the Republic of Ireland, Belgium, Italy and France – contesting Nations League games on Wednesday evening.

The dates for all of the international games in October are available here.

CLUB-BY-CLUB ROUND-UP

The team-by-team guide below breaks down the minutes that each player has played per international match over the last week or so, with a total given at the end.

Any players with an asterisk next to their names withdrew from their countries’ squads either at the outset or midway through the international break or picked up an injury at the back-end of it.

We’ll have further details on any lingering fitness concerns in our pre-Gameweek 5 team news round-up on Friday.

No KDB (the only team worth doubling up in mid/attack is everton imo)

        Steer/McCarthy
        Lamptey/Mitchell/Ayling/Justin/Lewis
        Bissouma/Sterling/Bruno.Fernandes/Salah/Rodriguez
        Maupay/Calvert-Lewis/Jiminez

        1.2 in the bank.

There is a lot of fear of not owning Salah here. Well, he is definitely a rank killer but he is doing it less often nowadays, and his price is not small as well.

    Good Morning My FPL Brothers.

How does this WC team look?

    Martinez (Steer)

    Robbo Chilwell Lamptey (Justin Mitchell)

    Salah Son Grealish Hames (ASM)

    Kane DCL Brewster

    1) Ima change Steer to another 4m to free up that Villa space

    2) Waiting to see if Mitchell rises before doing Mitchell+Justin+ASM to Ferguson (better long term) + Ayling/Dallas/KWP + Zaha

Zaha would probably start and Brewster falls to bench, then Ayling/Dallas would rotate with Lamptey

Is Zaha worth the extra 2m over ASM?? ASM rotates well with Brewster

Sorry for the repost but still not sure about this one. Which one would you prefer on wc? A because of pens?

    A. Grealish Maupay/ Wilson
    B. Pulisic Watkins

Tough one - I like B but A could sway it due to pens

Captaincy been on Salah throughout IB because he didn't travel then realised LIV EVE have the early KO tomorrow. Usually I'm not a fan of captaining a player in the lunchtime KO as it usually ruins the rest of the GW and even more so when the games are staggered. Silly reason to move to Son captain?

Are we going to see a shift in performances after the IB? The likes of Chelsea, Wolves, United, City and Pool defence going to improve massively or the likes of Leeds, Villa, Everton continuing where they left? It has been a strange season for my team.

I think this might still be a weird week. If anything, the teams with fewer internationals will have had more training ground time. But fitness should be better, which United are reliant upon. I think Leeds will continue to get better.

I don't see the weirdness stopping, I simply believe having no fans there benefits attacking players more than defenders and things will be topsy turvy

If Kane gets double figures this week I think he might be onto a 30 goal season. West Ham were good before break but I don't trust them.

I’m suspicious. Spurs haven’t looked great in the games I’ve watched (saints played them off park in first half) and unite gave up with 10 men.

West Ham looking good as well.

That said, good fixtures and form so at least one spurs attacker seems sensible. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if they only score 4-5 goals in next 4 fixtures!

Kane has better stats, penalties and better against deep sitting defences.

Son explosive form, though both hauls were due to exceptional circumstances. Great if you had him, but not likely to repeat that often
