€50k top prize in Fanteam’s easy-to-play, FPL-style Champions League game

Sponsored by FanTeam

The UEFA Champions League starts this evening – and you could have €50,000 in your pocket by the time the group stage ends in December.

By entering FanTeam’s Champions League Group Stage game ahead of tonight’s Gameweek 1 deadline at 17:55 BST, Fantasy managers will be in with a chance of winning a share of the guaranteed €250,000 prize pool.

Given that only 2,200 teams have been entered at the time of writing, and with the top 1,744 places assured of cash prizes, the odds are favourable to say the least.

It’s a Fantasy game without the complications, too: no Wildcards, no chips, no convoluted scoring system, no price changes – it’s a six-Gameweek, FPL-style tournament that gives you the chance to pair Robert Lewandowski with Lionel Messi and walk away with a huge cash prize in the process.

Entries cost just €25, with an unlimited number of teams per user allowed.

SIGN UP TO FANTEAM’S €250,000 UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FANTASY GAME AHEAD OF TODAY’S DEADLINE

HOW TO PLAY: A BRIEF GUIDE

It really is nice and easy, this game, with the basic rules as follows:

  • Build a squad of 15 players that includes two goalkeepers, five defenders, five midfielders and three forwards.
  • A maximum of three players from a single Champions League club can be picked, with the transfer budget set at 100.0m.
  • A starting XI is then selected for each Gameweek from that squad of 15, with a captain chosen to earn double points.
  • Two free transfers are allowed every Gameweek, with each additional transfer costing minus four points. Managers can roll a maximum of two Gameweek transfers forward.

SCORING SYSTEM

FPL managers, or those playing FanTeam’s €1m season-long Premier League game, will find the scoring system €250K Champions League Group Stage game a doddle.

The points breakdown is shown above, with the minor differences outlined below.

KEY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FANTEAM AND FPL
  • There is no Bonus Points System, which is replaced by plus/minus points if a team is winning/losing during the period a player is on the pitch.
  • Goalkeepers get 0.5 points for every save made, unlike the one point awarded in FPL for increments of three stops.
  • Committing a foul that leads to a free-kick goal or converted penalty is penalised by minus two points.
  • Midfielders and forwards get an extra point for completing the full match.

I’m really struggling with this decision on WC. What would you go for?

    A. Robertson & Maupay (no TAA)
    B. Konsa/Targett & Werner

      B. Would be avoiding LIV defence on a WC. Adrian is pish and no VVD.

Or do something like Castagne/Chilwell and Ings. Ings will outscore Werner

Personally I have faith that TAA/ Robbo will be worth the investment over medium - long term. Robbo is def in better form of the two and cheaper

    3. JasonG123
      • 10 Years

I'd go A - Robbo's stats are comparable to that of a decent midfielder (0.42 xGI per 90). If he gets around 15-17 attacking returns and around 11-13 clean sheets that's still an amazing return for the season.

I have a healthy 4.3k in the bank (from selling KDB last gameweek) and want to know how best to use it. Woulkd consider straight swap or take a 4 point hit for two changes. Obviously missing the likes of Son, Rodriguez, Werner and DCL so really unsure what to do.

    Any advice welcome.

    Team is
    McCarthy (Butland)
    TAA, Robertson, Saiss, Mitchell, Justin
    Salah, Pulisic, Doucoure, Soucek, Bissouma
    Kane, Jiminez, Brewster

    Many thanks

      Pulisic to Sterling?

Doucoure to Son is the most obvious option I suppose.

Brewster to DCL - Brewster so easy to get back in and you don't need him for 3 weeks really?

Cheers. As I decided to get Pulisic rather than Son last week because I already had Kane, I guess I am loathe to bring Son in now (stubborn as always!!). Brewster to DCL makes sense. Thanks.

    Hows this for a WC?

Think there are better goalies than McCarthy at the moment. Bench too weak with 3 players that aren’t nailed. Not keen on Rashford and Foden either, would try to fit in Hames and/or Grealish.

I actually like it. Less money on defence seems the way to go at the moment and Chilwell and Saiss are good options. Rest of team sound and front three spot on. I guess you could swap out Foden for a cheaper midfielder (like Soucek) and upgrade McCarthy to Martinez. Might give you a bit extra to improve a defender.

Sorry silly question I guess.. In the stats section, when we click "defensive team stats", when it's said "chances conceded on the right flank" are we talking about the right flank of the defense or the attack?
I mean, if we say Liverpool conceeded 7 big chanced from the right flank, are we talking TAA or Robbo side?

    thanks

Apart from last night games the season has been rather free flowing regarding goals. Does it then make sense to go all out attack and downgrade the defence or will the games get tighter as we move into the season? I am assuming the goals will continue and have therefore opted for the following WC.

    Adrian (4.0)
    Targett, Walker-peters, Lamptey, Mitchel, Kilman
    Bruno, Son, Salah, Grealish, Rodriguez
    Calvert Levin, Kane and Brewster

Would be great to get your thoughts on thisassumption.

I took me 15 minutes to find the scoring rules on Fanteam. There should really be a popup in the contest lobby for each contest. Also the staking penalty rule and every other scoring rule should be in one place. Also, where the hell do I find out about the number of entries allowed per user?
I wonder have they never looked at Draftkings and how easy it is to find and sort everything.

Really close - both are substantial upgrades. If there's no other way, I'd probably say B as JRod can exploit Soton's high line and may take more attacking onus (and penalties?) with Richarlison out.

In that case I'd go Barkley, but I'd probably prefer Son than Rashford.... or Pulisic/Havertz?

          I don't trust Man Utd enough 🙂

I can afford Kane for Jimenez.... but....

    Martinez
    TAA, Robbo, Saiss, Lamptey
    Salah(C), Son, J.Rodriguez, Foden
    Jimenez, DCL

    GK, Podence, Mitchell, Brewster

    ..... I should save the FT shouldn't I?

don't want to ask about specific transfers, but if you had this team, who would you most want to add to it (regardless of how needs to be removed):

    Martinez
    Robertson Saiss James
    Salah Son Grealish Foden
    Kane Jimenez DCL

    Steer Mitchell Taylor Alzate

      Lamptey

There are no problems with that team, it's good.

I wouldn't want Reece James anymore, but he's still a potentially great pick - just maybe frustrating.

I have a similar team but Trent where you have Grealish, and although I am happy I can see why Grealish over TAA is appealing for the next few weeks/months!

I suppose Aguero or KDB are the two players I'd want, but then you're just making straight swaps for premiums that I'd then say I wanted.

So all in all, good work.

Yeah absolutely James is the next to go. My plan is James, grealish and Jimenez to lamptey, Barkley and aguero over the next 3 weeks using fts.

Yeah, solid plan. Maybe Lamptey in this week then, home to WBA - that's a plum fixture.

Anything worth a hit? No FT, 0.8ITB.

    Martinez
    TAA Lamptey Saiss
    Salah (C) Son Mahrez Hamez
    DCL Jimenez Watkins

    Steer Podence Ayling Justin

    Thanks

    Thoughts on this -4?

Jimenez and R James to Kane and Ayling?

    Is it worth it?

I've done James to Ayling myself, Kane should pay back -4 over thenext three games but I'd wait a week and see if defences start performing. Assuming you have Son, I'm probably going to have one Spurs attacker in 3 GWs time.

You can't really justify Jimenez -4 for Kane.... when Jimenez just scored and is home to Newcastle.

R.James to Ayling on it's own this week.... then maybe Jimenez out for Aguero or Kane.

Yeah, you get what you pay for with Jimenez I think.... got a decent return last night, ticks over....

I'm tempted to take Podence out myself, but he's my sub1 for next week so I'll just save the transfer.

I can get Kane in for Jimenez for a FT too, but resisting the urge.

    Martínez - Steer
Castagne, Saïss, Chilwell - Lamptey, Mitchell
Salah, Sterling, Grealish, Rodríguez - Anguissa
    DCL, Jiménez, Ings
    1 FT, 0.4 ITB

What to do with Castagne? Leicester are not looking good in their last 2 games... Should I sell him?
Or should I improve in other areas?
Or just do nothing and save the FT?

(I'm in a "no Spurs" ML, so Son and Kane are no options)

I would keep and save the FT.

Pep's fraudulent words removing all desire to keep KDB. Also Jesus is apparently back sooner than expected.

"We are still a little bit away from where we want to be but Aleks Zinchenko is back and many players are back in good condition - Gundogan, Bernardo and Joao - and Gabriel, Kevin and Aymeric are expected back in the next weeks. It depends on our performance and we will see what happens. "
