€50k top prize in Fanteam’s easy-to-play, FPL-style Champions League game

Sponsored by FanTeam

The UEFA Champions League starts this evening – and you could have €50,000 in your pocket by the time the group stage ends in December.

By entering FanTeam’s Champions League Group Stage game ahead of tonight’s Gameweek 1 deadline at 17:55 BST, Fantasy managers will be in with a chance of winning a share of the guaranteed €250,000 prize pool.

Given that only 2,200 teams have been entered at the time of writing, and with the top 1,744 places assured of cash prizes, the odds are favourable to say the least.

It’s a Fantasy game without the complications, too: no Wildcards, no chips, no convoluted scoring system, no price changes – it’s a six-Gameweek, FPL-style tournament that gives you the chance to pair Robert Lewandowski with Lionel Messi and walk away with a huge cash prize in the process.

Entries cost just €25, with an unlimited number of teams per user allowed.

SIGN UP TO FANTEAM’S €250,000 UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FANTASY GAME AHEAD OF TODAY’S DEADLINE

HOW TO PLAY: A BRIEF GUIDE

It really is nice and easy, this game, with the basic rules as follows:

  • Build a squad of 15 players that includes two goalkeepers, five defenders, five midfielders and three forwards.
  • A maximum of three players from a single Champions League club can be picked, with the transfer budget set at 100.0m.
  • A starting XI is then selected for each Gameweek from that squad of 15, with a captain chosen to earn double points.
  • Two free transfers are allowed every Gameweek, with each additional transfer costing minus four points. Managers can roll a maximum of two Gameweek transfers forward.

SCORING SYSTEM

FPL managers, or those playing FanTeam’s €1m season-long Premier League game, will find the scoring system €250K Champions League Group Stage game a doddle.

The points breakdown is shown above, with the minor differences outlined below.

KEY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FANTEAM AND FPL
  • There is no Bonus Points System, which is replaced by plus/minus points if a team is winning/losing during the period a player is on the pitch.
  • Goalkeepers get 0.5 points for every save made, unlike the one point awarded in FPL for increments of three stops.
  • Committing a foul that leads to a free-kick goal or converted penalty is penalised by minus two points.
  • Midfielders and forwards get an extra point for completing the full match.

Will the suspension of richarlison affect James Rod's points? If so, by how much?

Possibly, he focuses a lot of his cross field balls to Richarlison but it could mean he is now on penalties.

Digne will still be on the end of plenty and they'll just whip Iwobi out there, he's okay.... not great, but lively at least.

I couldn't hold Mitro, he makes me feel sick.

      Podence a little risky...

      Decent though overall, like it.

      Captain Salah.

Out of those definitely Mitro to Watkins...

but, taking a hit when Mitro is home to Palace probably isn't worth it on reflection.

You reckon Mitrovic will drop before Richarlison?

I own Richarlison, and I would like to bring in Mitro at 5.8 for his next 3. Brewster and Mitrovic rotate quite well.

Good 1 point rotation there. I’d get Adams in instead of either of those

1 pointer is a bit rough. 3 games from now Brewster might be nailed in the starting 11, and Mitrovic will score more than a total of 3 points against: PALACE, WEST BROM, west ham

I just don’t think he will, Fulham are so defensive minded. Seriously, Adams is fantastic value in an attacking team

I've owned Kilman since the start.

This weekend Im thinking of going a back three of Saiss (NEW) Robbo (SHU) and Kilman (NEW)

with a subs bench of Chilwell (mun), Mitchell (FUL) and Bissouma (WBA)

This mad? Wolves looked very solid last night apart from Semedo who might be under pressure to keep his spot and i think they can get another CS at home to Newcastle.

      1. Fit_to_drop

Kilman isnt nailed but i'm sure NES understands the dynamic of a dressing room and any player that comes in and does well keeps his place. He is probably loving the fact that he has 2-3 defenders waiting in line and this 23 y/o is keeping them out of the side presently. I think he is a coach that likes competition and doesn't indulge stars so for my money, Kilman starts.

A small chance Saiss loses his spot?
Marcel to come back and Kilman MoM?

I wouldn't ever take out TAA. Liverpool conceeded isn't the main reason to have him, he's on half corners and free kicks... he'll score a few this season.

The more people take him out though, the happier I am.

Son is obviously safer than Mahrez, but I do like the Mahrez pick, so I wouldn't make the transfers...

he got an assist last game. i'd be more worried if he wasn't getting chances.

at a time when i'm prepared to leave out expensive city assets, he's a nice one to own capable of delivering a nice little bonus.

          He just got an assist.
He had 4 shots on goal 3 on target vs Arsenal.
He had the highest xG in the Arsenal game with 0.67. Higher than Sterling.

It doesn't make sense to get rid when he now has two good fixtures unless you're using the money significantly better.

      Not for me.

Foden, despite not being the finished article yet, is playing as one of Man City's attackers.

Man City are miles better than Villa, and will score loads more goals... so I wouldn't look at that as a long-term good move.

Need to play 2 this week, alongside TAA:

    Taylor (TOT)

Somehow I still have Auba in my team, and not really sure what to do

    Team is:
    McCarthy (button)
    TAA Chilwell KWP Taylor Mitchell
    Auba Salah Son Hames Reed
    DCL Wilson Bamford

    0.3 itb and 1 FT

Thinking I could do Auba -> Sterling

There's also plenty of options if I'd take a hit

But, maybe the best option could be to just roll the FT?

In the members area, the Player Stats allows filtering by opponents, but it appears the Team Stats does not. You can filter by things like home/away, last 2/4/6 gameweeks, etc., but I don't see a place to filter for opponents.

If I want to know things like which teams have conceded the most xG per 90 against the top 6 only, is that possible to figure out with the tools that are there?

Probably going to do TAA, Mitrovic -> Reguilon, Kane (-4) tonight

Potentially 0.4 swing in price as soon as tonight and definitely by the end of the week. I don’t like early transfers but I have my WC which I’m close to using anyway so I think it’s worth the risk. Also own Robbo

    Not a terrible plan, right?

I would not remove TAA for a hit before SHU at home.

I have Robbo though and need Kane. Only other option to get Kane is Werner -> Kane

imagine a month ago you would be getting rid of trent for a hit before sheff utd at home, what a turn of events in 5 gwks,i couldnt do it then and still cant....

I know it sounds crazy but I have the double up. And I always thought that Robbo would be downgraded if needed to afford an upgrade elsewhere (Mitro -> Kane is such a massive upgrade) It just turns out Robbo looks better than TAA. All that plus VVD and Allison being out surely justifies it? Slightly?

Think TAA and Mitro might outscore those 2 next game!

    Martinez (Martin)
    Saiss / Lamptey/ TAA/ KWP/ Mitchell
    Salah Son Rod Grealish (Stephens)
    Kane DCL Wilson

A if you truly want a punt. I'd probably prefer B though.

With a 60pts ceiling for my team, it’s time to wildcard.
Is this team too light in defense and too light on the bench?

    Martinez (Button)
    Robbo,Targett,Kilman (Cresswell,Branthwaite)
    Salah,Bruno,Son,Hamez,Bissouma
    Kane,DCL (Brewster).
