Scoutcast Episode 349 – Targeting the best premium FPL players

Joe and Az are joined by FPL Family’s Lee to look ahead to Gameweek 6.

For once this season the entire Scoutcast crew had a great Gameweek, thanks to some honesty from Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola over the absence of Kevin De Bruyne (£11.5m).

The Belgian’s injury opened the door to a flurry of Wildcards from Az and Lee and gave Joe the opportunity to roll back the years and place his trust in Harry Kane (£10.8m) as captain.

With premium picks like the Spurs striker performing well each week, many Fantasy Premier League managers are adjusting the way they approach the game.

Accepting the “opportunity cost” of switching heavy hitters and targeting as many captainable assets as possible are among the strategies Joe, Az and Lee discuss.

Could Liverpool defenders make way? That’s certainly an option being considered by Joe as he looks to shoehorn a Liverpool midfielder in his already premium-heavy side. But is Sadio Mane (£11.9m) over Mohamed Salah (£12.3m) really “trying to be too clever” as Az suggests?

Aston Villa’s cheaper assets could be the enablers FPL managers need, especially ahead of a long, kind run of games. The merits of the likes of Jack Grealish (£7.2m) and Ross Barkley (£5.9m) are among Villa players the crew consider.

There’s a smoother edition of Rough with the Smooth this week, fixtures to frisk and captaincy and transfer plans to reveal.

In addition, Lee takes his turn to pick a differential. If he can select a player who actually sets foot on the pitch, he has already done better than Joe’s failed selections so far this campaign.

start Lamptey or Barnes this week.
Have been more impressed from an attacking point with Lamptey even though he is a 4.5 defender!

      Lamptey.

Funny how you me and Dex's lab had basically the same wildcard in GW3. He's done way better than us by holding Son for GW4 though. The core framework of that wildcard was really good. The double Wolves defense is paying off.

Why would they play either of those two over Chilwell... It's like saying Robbo is a rotation risk because they have Tsimikas.

Yeah, you chose 3 players from each match (can sub them as lineups are out) and than during the match you have another 3 subs. Its really cool, you can use diferent strategies but ofc you have to be on top of the matches as they are played... if you dont have the time, forget it. It was such an incredible boost to watching the games...

grealish took the last one at the end of last season if i remember correctly. El Ghazi had taken one whilst Grealish was on the pitch too (after Grealish had missed one). But El Ghazi unlikely to be on pitch for the next one.

I'd predict it will be Grealish.

    Pool's fixtures GW7-13:

WHU, mci, LEI, bha, WOL, ful, TOT

How many clean sheets do we think they can keep without VVD out of these 7 games?

Tempted to go without TAA for this run of fixtures.

If I had Robbo it would probably be a tougher choice as he seems to be more threatening from open play.

Depends when Allison is back. For me he's more of a loss than Van Dijk. A gulf in class between Van Dijk and Fabinho, Gomez and Matip but it's nothing to the huge difference in standards between Allison and Adrian, as keepers and as the voice shouting organising the defence.

yep he got a game to burn himself out completely against sevilla but he played pretty well. however, you'd expect a rested azpi to be preferred over james though

    Love this

Everton forward Richarlison says he got 10,000 WhatsApp messages in five minutes after Brazil team-mate Neymar showed his phone number during a live-streamed online video game.

right now both seem like a bad choice. man u have che ars eve next 3 matches, better from gw9. city have west ham, liv, spurs in their next 4 games. probably look towards double up on spurs assets or premium liverpool?

Afternoon all, think I can save a transfer for the first time this season? Glad I got on Barkley last week, largely thanks to a tweet from LateRiser.

    1FT - 2.3 ITB

    Martinez
    Trent - Saiss - Digne
    Klich - Barkley - Salah (c) - Son - Podence
    Kane - Jimenez

    (Brewster, Justin, Shaw)

Tough one. For next 2 gws only who do you prefer? (out for Kane)

    A) Ings- EVE avl

    B) Jimenez- NEW CPL

Either way the one i prefer will be gone for Antonio in gw8

I've ditched Raul. Although the fixtures aren't as good for Ings, think he looks sharper and Saints look better going forward.

I am not completely committed to bringing Antonio in for GW8 however

yep gave the same feedback and yeah I've read that antonio doesn't have the best fitness to play well beyond a few gameweeks into the season. will be interesting tho to see how he plays next couple of weeks against difficult opposition
