Captain Sensible

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 6?

It feels like 2017/18 all over again when it comes to Fantasy Premier League captaincy decisions right now.

It was back in the good-old days where we were faced with a choice between Mohamed Salah (£12.3m) and Harry Kane (£10.8m) ahead of a new Gameweek – and yet here we are in 2020, with the two sides impressing themselves on the latest debate for the armband.

The Captain Sensible article is back once again to help you pick the right option for the armband, using key underlying statistics for player form and the defences of their upcoming opponents.

As this uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area, only those with a valid subscription can access it in full.

Captain Poll

Mohamed Salah (£12.3m) is leading this week’s Captain Poll as he is backed by half of our voters, specifically 48.5% The in-form Liverpool midfielder is facing Sheffield United in Gameweek 6, who are yet to win a Premier League game this season, with four defeats and one draw.

Meanwhile, nobody has recorded as many goal involvements in the opening five matches of the season as Harry Kane (£10.8m), who already has five goals, seven assists and 60 points.

The Tottenham striker also faces an out-of-form team on Monday, as Burnley are still looking for their first league victory of the season (three defeats, one draw).

Kane currently sits second in the Captain Poll, with nearly 20.0% of our users backing the Englishman.

Behind Kane, his counterpart Son Heung-min (£9.4m, 6.5% of votes), Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish (£7.2m, 5.0%) and Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling (£11.6m, 3.0% of votes) remain as the outside picks this week.

Once again, using some underlying data from the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area and combining the poll results, current form and analysis of the opposition, we are going to try to pick the best captain for Gameweek 6.

City triple up with Sterling Aguero and Foden, maddness?

I have sterling and son and am doubling up with Kane over Aguero as I feel city haven't clicked yet with all their starters yet to be fit and on the pitch at the same time, I will look at doing that double up from gw9 or 10 onwards but at the moment I feel there are too many better options. one is more than sufficient when most have none, and currently out of the two id go for sterling.

I already have Sterling. I'm looking to do Hamez and Werner OUT for Foden and Aguero. But I'm not sure wheter it's a good move.

Wouldn't call it complete madness but bit of a risk because you're missing out on a lot of good other options

If they trash someone, mega-hauls are likley. They surley gonna be the best scoring team this season. I'm tempted by a triple up. Will think it over by the deadline. Cheers 🙂

I had a triple up recently but didn't go well. I think it's best to wait for them to show some form first. 1 or 2 is enough.

I had a really bad start to the season, and when I looked up for differentials to get me out of trouble, this was the best one I could find. I agree that I could miss out on other good players, but boy I can get good returns if City clicks.

What rank are you at? I'm sitting at 3.8m haha. But I think you can still climb a lot without going to crazy and taking major risks. Fit example hardly anyone has sterling so just having him alone can help you climb a lot if he hauls.

2.2 million , worse I'v ever been. I capped Sterling last two gameweeks and he deliverd, but now I want more from City. If I do this crazy move, I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best ( Salah and Kane not hauling too much).

    Yay or Nay?
Mitro + Reed out for DCL + Barkley (-4)

Want to do it tonight otherwise could be a 0.4 swing

    A) Jimenez > Kane (-4)
    B) Ings > Kane (-4)
    C) Castagne > Regullion (-4)
    D) Do nothing

C is more of a long term move that makes sure I have a good defender this week. (otherwise risking mitchell to play Fulham) and both A and B are kind of short term punts. I already have podence too from wolves.

If its short term id rather sell Ings over Jimenez, next two are better for Jimi

I did A. But Jimmy does have a good fixture this week so it's a close call. Ings fixtures aren't great but he's in good form so not sure you should dump him yet. I made that mistake last season and he punished me

Who to start out of these three?

    Dallas (avl)
    Walker-Peters (EVE)
    Justin (ars)

      Probably KWP.

Maybe KWP at home as Everton will be without J.Rodriguez or Richarlison.

Now that Everton is pretty crippled- they gotta play with Siggurdson and other misfits. Maybe KWP can resemble a decent player

Justin is garbage and he better stick to his position vs Arsenal level talent

Dallas face the AV flying tigers but he might give you something on the attack. Leeds is fearless

You lose value if you were an early buyer. But if haven’t bought him, don’t buy him now.

The injury could be Psych-Op vs Liverpool’s mourning of VVD. Everton is now correctly saying that VVD is a filthy pig of player that risks others all the time.JR played 80 minutes after VVD viciously fouled him.

Yes. Except the fact that you don't have TAA or Robbo. Bold though!

Is that a WC? If so it may be wise not to go in with J Rod. If not then good to go and ride it out

Havertz to Son for free ? (Have Kane)

Chelsea have good fixtures after United but it's so tempting

I think every team should have Son right now. Saying that I can see Havertz starting to get regular returns. Find another way?

No another way. Only to use WC or to sell Salah

Havertz to Son, that’s like saying...

Should I keep a messed up old Volkswagen when I am offered an Awesomely styled and loaded new Hyundai

Yeah Hyundai is terrible but it’s not that terrible and it’s new

Worth a hit to bring in a Liverpool attacker and captain?
    Patricio
    Robbo Digne Lamptey James Mitchell
    Son Havertz Grealish Barnes Foden
    Kane Dcl Bamford

    Can do Barnes+Havertz to Salah + 4.5mid
    Cheers

Thoughts on using my FT to swap Castagne for Reguilon? Leicester has a challenging run of fixtures and Spurs' next 3 fixtures are almost as good as it could get

If the rest of your team is good then yes. Spurs were good defensively for most of the west ham and Newcastle games

I'm pretty satisfied with the rest of my team at the moment. Maybe TAA is a bit iffy, but it is too risky imo to ship him out just before a home match with Sheffield United

Holding Hames if he just misses this GW...so that aside who is the weakest link in my team iyo?

    Martinez
    Robertson Saiss Lamptey
    Son Sterling Pulisic *Hames
    DCL Jimenez Watkins
    (Forster Coady Burke Dunne)

I think he’s a good pick for his price but you have money itb. I’d be tempted by Werner after this gw.

Is Barnes likely to start this gw even though he wasn’t subbed off early?

They need goal scorers, especially with Vardy hurt.

Barnes is not a stone cold locked player but he is very important to Leicester

yeah he's Leicester best attacker. Would be surprised if he was benched.

With Reed & Ferguson on the bench, I'm depending on Justin to replace Rodriguez. Anything here worth a hit?

    Martinez

    TAA Robertson KWP

    Salah Rodriguez Podence Son

    Kane Watkins DCL

    1.0m in the bank

Looks advanced enough for me. I watched the PSG game other night and he was taking up some very advanced positions, just off Martial quite often

Having said all that, I wouldn’t be surprised if eventually Martial is best value after his price drops

Yeah, MU probably practice diving and Pretending more than tactics and strategy- so Bruno’s pens seem to stand out as an asset

      Very Similar to mine.

I've got Sais instead of Chilwell and Fernandes instead of Pulisic.
