The Fantasy Flutter: Mane to exploit below-par Blades?

Sponsored by bet365

The FPL deadline may have passed but there are still plenty of opportunities for us to get involved in the weekend action, especially for those who enjoy a small wager.

Every Saturday morning, we combine Fantasy football with a flutter as we take a punt on the upcoming Premier League fixtures.

Focusing exclusively on the Gameweek 6 matches, we’ll be turning to the vast array of data available in our Premium Members Area to inspire a few sensibly staked bets this weekend.

The odds featured in this piece are all provided by our official sportsbook partner, bet365.

Please gamble responsibly and always remember: when the fun stops, stop.

Bet365 to be Fantasy Football Scout's official sportsbook partner in 2020/21

STERLING RISES

0-5, 0-4, 1-4, 0-4, 0-5: not the bowling figures of a cricket match in its infancy but rather the last five results between West Ham United and Manchester City at the London Stadium.

The Hammers have been much improved this season, of course, going unbeaten in their last three games against Wolves, Leicester and Spurs.

The opening quarter of an hour at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend was a reminder that they’re not totally impenetrable, however, and if there is one team well equipped to exploit any weaknesses, it’s Pep Guardiola’s attack-minded troops.

Backing a 5-0 or 5-1 away victory on Saturday lunchtime returns 33/1 with bet365, with 4-0 and 4-1 winning margins available at 18/1.

Raheem Sterling himself has six goals and five assists in his last six league meetings with West Ham United, with the Manchester City winger hitting a hat-trick in this fixture last season – he is 11/1 to repeat that trick this weekend and 10/3 to grab the first goal.

EASY MANE?

Behind not only Mohamed Salah (2/1) but also Diogo Jota and Divock Origi (15/4) to score the first goal against Sheffield United on Saturday, Sadio Mane is a generous 4/1 with bet365 to open the scoring at Anfield.

Salah might be shot-happy and on penalties but Mane is still trumping not only his teammate but also every other Premier League player who has started at least one match when it comes to minutes per expected goal involvement (xGI).

Sheffield United have conceded more headed chances than any other team in 2020/21 and with Mane having more headers on goal than any other current FPL midfielder over the last two seasons, the Senegalese could prosper in Gameweek 6.

TWO GOALS, ONE BET

Anyone who backed Spurs to beat West Ham in Gameweek 5 would have been counting not only their chickens but their imminent winnings when the Lilywhites led 3-0 with eight minutes to go.

We all know what happened next, of course, as Jose Mourinho’s troops contrived to throw away two points in a match they dominated – much as they did against Newcastle United before the international break.

With bet365, there is at least the safety net of the “2 Goals Early Payout Offer”, in which single bets are paid out if the team you backed races into that most dangerous of leads, ie a two-goal one.

“Get your single bets paid out if the team you back goes two goals ahead – for multiple bets the selection will be marked as a winner.

Only available to new and eligible customers. Bet restrictions and T&Cs apply.

NU-NO GOALS ALLOWED

Wolverhampton Wanderers have kept seven clean sheets in their last nine Premier League matches at Molineux, where they take on Newcastle United in Gameweek 6.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have recorded shut-outs in 12 of their last 19 league fixtures home or away, which is more than any other club has managed in that time.

A Magpies side that has carved out fewer shots on target than all teams bar Crystal Palace this season gives Wolves a great chance to build on Monday’s clean sheet over Leeds, which was their third of 2020/21.

A Wolves win to nil is 13/8 but if you wanted more bang for your buck, look no further than Romain Saiss.

No club has allowed more chances from set plays than Newcastle in each of the last three seasons (including this one), which could bode well for a threatening Saiss at corner and free-kick situations.

The Moroccan is 20/1 to score the first goal against Steve Bruce’s troops.

Yes, not very logical thinking either - his upside was always limited becuase in addition to Bamford he had two Villa defenders - where was the sense in that? Maybe I'm just jealous because I don't have Bamford.

What do you guys think about Danny Ings as an FPL option then?.. He seems like he might once again be on course to get 20 goals this season and looks like a good option and seems to be fairly priced, it's just that other are matching the output for cheaper prices.. but then again I don't want to use a transfer to lose him. Is it a case of don't sell, don't buy?

They will sit deeper than Titanic, key for LFC success will be Thiago Alcantara in my opinion. At Bayern he was the one opening the double decker bus defenses.

Trying bit more patient approach this year with my transfers, ie no hits and giving players more than couple games to deliver but looks like my TV is suffering comparing to most.

Really hope that Trent will repay my faith (and 0.1m loss) in next 2 home fixtures, also need double digit scores from Jimi & Ings.

    1. Guru Mediation
      • 8 Years

Patience is good but I'd be hovering around the transfer button re Trent - he's not shown any great form since they closed out the title last season.

Jimi and Ings are both slow burners so yeah waiting on them is a good shout. Who's your other forward?

      1. el polako
        • 6 Years

Playing 352 with Brewster, like my mids but got some money tied up at the back in Digne, Taa and Saiss (to lesser extend) should I decide to switch formation.
I like my team on paper but if I dont start climbing up the ranks soon then will have to rejig it somehow.

Next 2 fixtures look great for Spurs and I reckon he will be most capped player.

Allow me to re-post on this new thread for some more views .. If Zaha and Palace doesn't look convincing in attack again, it's probably time to sell and look for the replacement.

    Martinez - Steer
    Robbo - Saiss - Lamptey - Mitchell - Kilman
    Salah - Son - Hames - Zaha - Foden
    Kane - DCL - Brewster

With 9.9m budget, these options are for straight swap.

    A) Zaha -> Rashford ... But Martial returns soon. Will Ole continue to play two FWDs up top?
    B) Zaha -> Havertz / Pulisic ... Not sure if Lampard found his preferred XI and formation yet?

Rashford looks like a prime target for me but also wondering if it's worth to go for Bruno.

    C) Zaha + Foden -> Bruno + 5.9m MF (Barkley went up already. Probably go down to Soucek and save 1.0m. But, no City?)
    D) Zaha + Hames -> Bruno + 7.2m MF (Grealish? Still good after last night that he almost scored? But, sell Hames?)
    E) Zaha + Saiss -> Bruno + 4.5m DF (Lots of nailed starters and still have Foden & Hames. But, sell Saiss?)

One think about keeping Zaha and two suggesting E.

    Any advice please.

I like fixtures too, but also think Wolves and Leeds will hard to score against if Palace not improving.

I will see how well they are at attacking against Fulham today.

I tend to value fixtures over form nearly every time. Sometimes it backfires but I use the logic that if a decent player is out of form, then playing [insert rubbish team] is a good time to start finding form

            • 13 Years

Fixtures influence my decision a lot too, but not 100% after some players like Y.Toure and Mahrez (at LEI) proven about form.

            GW 7-10

            CPL : wol / LEE / bur / NEW
            MUN : ARS / eve / WBA / sou
            CHE : bur / SHU / new / TOT

I feel that are actually more difficult for Palace to score against.

      C)

If your concern is no city you can address that at a later date from downgrading Robbo and moving from Son to KDB (once Spurs show a dip you'll only want one of Son/Kane). Or straight swap Kane to Aguero when Spurs dip and if you want to keep pool defence.

In summary, I think spurs attack are the placeholder team for city attack and trading in and out of those assets depending on form is the way I'm looking at it. Right now holding Spurs and shorting City is the way to go

Thank you. That's a good food for thought on Spurs / City. They will meet on GW9 and then fixture turn more difficult for Spurs and look more favourable for City. It might be a good time to switch one of Kane / Son.

This season is strange though as penalty is given more and CS look more difficult (no stats, just feeling). Foden looks like a good value from City if he continues to play regularly. That's a reason that I'm hesitated if it's time to sell him.

The fantasy gods have left me a FT and exact money ITB to switch Brewster to Bamford, even though I'll never play him and will switch him back (for a likely hit) to Brewster to bring in the City boys GW10. They are tickling my knee and roaring with laughter.

I brought in Salah (c) for a hit this week. Wanted Kane too but could only captain one and didn't want to get Brewster to enable Kane.

Next week I'm thinking Jimi & Ings > Kane & Bamford for a hit. Kane is fixture proof right now

Trent dropped in price. Madness ahead of these two fixtures. I think patience will reward the few managers that employ it this season. I agree Robertston has looked better but would only make that transfer on a wildcard. I’ve captained Salah but I wouldn’t be surprised if Trent comes out with a 12+ pointer tonight.

Anyways I must get back to selling Werner for Watkins for a hit who gets sold for Kane for a hit who gets sold for Bamford for a hit etc

Henderson is getting in attacking RW spot as soon as Salad tucks inside which leaves no space for Taa IMO

Maybe that's the reason Hendo has been told to get into the RW position?
So that TAA doesn't have to get too forward and leaves no empty space behind him.

If anything we might see a bit of lower line of defence from Pool now as they've lost their talisman due to injury.

I am watching games tonight very carefully as need to take decisions for Taa/Chilwell/Rashford/Bruno/Pulisc etc in near future (incoming and outgoing)

If no other moves id do Mitchell -> Ferguson - sets up your bench fodder for the longer term.

            Same dilemma (almost identical squad).

Have 2 FT and don't want to burn one so will likely just do Maupay>Antonio 1 week early (liv away not ideal but it frees up a transfer for the following week and fits the plan).

Grealish and Martinez concern me after last night but not enough to knee jerk them out after 1 bad game (didn't watch it but heard Grealish could've scored easily on another day)

It hurts to have Bamford & Dallas on the bench. Honestly this game is sht... If only we could sub in players on the bench, that would be fantastic!

Would be corrupt if we could do that tbf

Nothing corrupt about it. It will make the game fun & bench more important.

I mean why choose 15 players when we can’t effectively use them all if needed. The only downside to that is the BB chip but it is way better to use options on the bench... Nothing hurts more than wasted points on the bench in fpl

I have Ayling but he’s at CB now due to injuries, though when both play full back Ayling is the better pick

For those looking for a defensive rotation pairing, Aston Villa and Southampton offer a good run from GW7 to GW16:

SOU, NEW, BHA, whm, NEW, SHU, BUR, wba, CPL, WHM

Targett and KWP could be a good way to get in on this for a combined 9.0m

Might need to take money out of defense now that VVD is out and i have Taa Robbo.
                Can work this isn't it

my keepers .,. just shifted from Brighton to Leeds to pair with Southampton ... 4 clean sheets out of six so far, 31 points at over 5 ppg 🙂

Martinez has scored more points due to his penalty save but I don’t think he will keep it going

Nah. That is a very good team IMO. Maybe if Mitchell is getting kicked out of the team (because PVA is back) then you could change him?

I’d probably do Mitchell -> Kilman if he starts.

Mitchell to Kilman if Mitchell has lost his place and Kilman starts ? I would have suggested Struijk until last night

Owning only Salah and Robbo from today's 4 matches!
I expect a massive drop in my rank but by the end of the gw I will be back with 4 players on Monday...
