Get late entry to FanTeam’s €250k Champions League game and start on 57 points

Sponsored by FanTeam

Did you miss the Gameweek 1 deadline for FanTeam’s €250,000 FPL-style UEFA Champions League Fantasy game last week?

Fret not, as you have a second chance to enter ahead of tonight’s action – and you won’t be playing catch-up from zero points.

Late registration is now open for the Champions League group stage game, which carries a guaranteed jackpot of €50,000.

HOW TO PLAY FANTEAM’S FPL-STYLE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FANTASY GAME

Finishing in the top 1,744 places ensures a cash prize, which is an even more mouth-watering proposition given that there only 8,000 teams entered at the time of writing.

New teams registered before the next FanTeam deadline at 16:25 GMT on Tuesday evening will be handed 90% of the average Gameweek 1 score (which equates to 57 points) and unlimited transfers until Gameweek 2 gets underway, so will immediately have the edge over a few thousand Fantasy managers who were involved from the outset.

That score is only 14.5 points off those who are currently in the money places, a gap that is easily surmountable in one Gameweek, let alone the five remaining in the group stages.

USING LATE REGISTRATION TO YOUR ADVANTAGE

UNLIMITED TRANSFERS

Those entering a new team in FanTeam‘s €250k FPL-style Champions League game will get unlimited free transfers between now and the start of Gameweek 2.

While those who registered teams before 2020/21 got underway will only have two free transfers in their locker, managers of newly entered teams will get to tweak their sides as much as they like until the next deadline.

GAMEWEEK 1 INFORMATION

Picking a squad ahead of Gameweek 1 relies a lot on gut instinct, with the knowledge that last season’s star players may no longer be as effective this time around.

Let’s be honest, how many among us had an encyclopedic knowledge of Club Bruges’ squad or could have foreseen Shakhtar’s win in Madrid going into last Tuesday’s deadline?

Fantasy managers entering a FanTeam squad ahead of Gameweek 2 will have the benefit of having seen all 32 Champions League clubs in action in the opening midweek of 2020/21, so will be armed with line-up information, eye test observations and up-to-date stats when creating their teams from scratch.

MIXING SHORT-TERM WITH MEDIUM-TERM PLANNING

With this Fantasy game only taking into account the Champions League group stage, there is no need to be looking too far ahead into the future.

While it’s important to build a core group of players that can see you through to mid-December, FanTeam managers are handed two free transfers every matchday – which does allow for a short-term punt or two.

Barcelona are away at Juventus in Gameweek 2, for example, so Fantasy managers may want to initially swerve the triple-up on Ronald Koeman’s side and instead book in a transfer or two ahead of their double-header against Dynamo Kyiv either side of the November international break.

FanTeam have put together this Season Ticker of their own for the remaining five Gameweeks (ordered by the bookies’ favourites for the tournament), which should help with managers’ planning.

Wood and Podence are the two issues, rest of the team is solid. Does Podence and Wood to Foden and Antonio (injury dependant) work?

Switch either Podence or Wood. You can even downgrade Semedo for funds.
Can you afford Semedo to Dallas/Ayling and Wood to Ings?

Antonio is not looking like it's gonna happen.

I also disagree on losing Son. Poor fixtures or not, he's a keep imo.

I'm looking to do something like:

          Salah KdB Bruno Son Grealish
          DCL Bamford

Thinking Antonio is out long term? Or you just don't trust his injury record? I've played with taking Son in/out so much but getting Bamford instead of Antonio might let me squeeze him in without destroying my defense in the process

While you're here what's your thoughts on RJames? My defense is relatively strong if he gets a run of starts. Finding 0.8 for Chilwell looks like a luxury I can't afford so would be going down to Coufal/Dallas

                  I don't know...

Probably will keep unless I do James > Chilwell this week which is an option I'm considering.

Will likely pray he starts this week and then if disaster strikes James > Coufal next week.

Yeah absolutely. That's where I'm planning to focus t'fers this season rather than mucking about in defence or whatever.

I saw FPLMatthew's thread on his bad start so thought I would check out his team... and it's so similar to mine except a couple of captain choices and the fact I've got Saiss instead of his Doherty. Fine margins.

Ack, well that specifically is very unlucky given what Mou said about his injury post Newcastle match.

In another season the move could have massively paid off with whoever you got in - and then Son could have had to get subbed off after 10 mins. All about the next few weeks!

Based on people giving themselves 6's being in the top 700k or so then I must be a 1. Made some absolutely shocking choices along the way but quite happy with my team now after a wildcard and still hoping for top 10k.

      4/10.

Horrific start, but a WC and some patience has meant I've crawled my way back to OR 1.3m from the depths of 4.6m.

Still aiming for a top 10k finish. I've made up 60 odd points in the last three weeks, so another 89 should be doable over 30 weeks!

My start has nicely mirrored how 2020 has been as a whole.

      A bag of sh**

Bad team to start with, led me to WC in GW3. The WC didn't go that well. Sold Son when I thought he was injured, then had to take a hit to get him back. Got Podence in my team, just sold Foden before his goal. Sold J-Rod on WC, just got him back this GW for blank, possible injury and no Richarlison. Captained Salah at wrong times (no hatty!). Seem to be chasing points!

Could go on.... but it's just a mixture of poor decisions, bad luck and a really weird season in general.

That would be a bold move with their fixtures. Think I'll give them one more GW anyway but you could well be right.

I know my team well. James injury has been common through his career. Dcl gets all his support from Digne Richa and James

Bowen could be my Podence replacement, 9th of all midfielders for Big Chances and 7th for NPxG - quite the achievement considering the teams he faced. If he plays ST against Liverpool that's even more appealing.

Yes, this idea has appealed to me. Give Podence his 65 mins v Palace and then move to Bowen. Bowen came off early last match - just to shore things up i guess?

Really hoping Mitrovic drops to 5.5M... I believe he has been very unlucky so far. I know its Fulham, but he has the most chances per minute of any Forward in the League. His conversion rate used to be higher, just been really unlucky this season. Besides, he is the only cheap Forward with Penalties. Am I mad?

Your theory is not mad, but there's just too many other better cheap(ish) options up top. Fulham looks like a sinking ship, prefer Bamford and Leeds for now.

Once Lookman, RLC have bedded a bit, they should be a better threat going forward. Not mad to think 5.5 is cheap as the spearhead, but they're not great right now.

Is Rodriguez out? Richarlison has provided one assist for DCL in PL. He and Digne will be a short term loss for Everton but surely doesn't warrant getting rid of DCL.

Don't overthink it - they had an off day as have every other Team. DCL is a season keeper for me. Hopefully James brushes his injury off, Richarlison out for 2 more games and Digne 3 will have an impact, but not worthy of a transfer IMO.

JRod looks done to me. Terrible in away fixtures, two tough home games then a see of red on the ticker.
JRod to Bowen looks good leaving me enough to bring in Ings or Martial upfront.

There's really not that much sample data, providing he stays fit he still looks like a great option to me. Everton look worthy of scoring well against good Teams and if there's one thing we have learnt so far this season it is that fixtures are almost irrelevant in FPL context given the number of upsets! Having said that Bowen looks like a solid option, wouldn't go anywhere near Martial...

Once Richarlison is back I think Everton will look much better again.

Completely incorrect, he was fantastic against Spurs, creating 5 chances and winning MOTM. Was great against Palace too, creating 3 chances and getting a hockey assist. Was unlucky not to return in both games.
