Pro Pundits - Tom

Which FPL assets have been creating the most chances for their clubs this season?

Five-time top 1k finisher Tom Freeman, aka avfc82, talks players with assist potential, Aston Villa and Wolves’ young left wing-back in his latest Pro Pundits column.

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) can at times be unpredictable and often margins are fine.

My team’s performance these past couple of weeks sums it up well. Having returned 70 points in Gameweek 6, the same group massively underwhelmed in 7 with just 39.

As a result, I now sit 351,656th overall with a total of 428 points.

After a bad Gameweek, the temptation to rip it up and start again is always there, but in situations like this, it’s sometimes best to take a step back, bank a transfer and look at the bigger picture, which I’m fairly content with right now.

So, as focus turns to Gameweek 8, in this my latest column I’m going to revisit my ‘creators’ table. Now armed with more data, it again reveals some familiar faces, but there are some lesser-spotted names in there, too.

I’ll also touch upon my club Aston Villa and discuss Wolverhampton Wanderers’ new wing-back, Rayan Ait Nouri (£5.0m).

THE CREATORS

It’s been four Gameweeks since I last shared this data, so I thought I’d take another look and see if any previous trends have changed.

For those that missed it first time round, this list show’s each team’s best creator so far using the chances created metric. We’re still working with small sample sizes and waiting for statistics to settle down, but with seven Gameweeks of data now logged, the picture is starting to become clearer.

When looking at this list, there are a number of names you would expect to see, but there are also quite a few surprises.

Somewhat predictably, Kevin De Bruyne (£11.5m), Mohamed Salah (£12.4m) and James Rodríguez (£7.9m) all feature as they did on the last rundown. However, a new name tops the list.

Thanks for reading, until next time…

What way are we expecting Southampton to line up now, then? I'm wondering if there's any possibility of Ralph using Walcott up front, was considering him previously as I thought he looked good against Chelsea and I think he suits the way Soton play but I don't know if he's wanted out wide more or not.

    RP from last article.

Been really stewing over my Saiss replacement all week. It's a really crucial decision in terms of setting up my team for future moves.

    Martinez Forster
    Semedo Saiss James Lamptey Mitchell
    Salah Son Grealish Rashford Foden
    Kane DCL Davis

    1.1m ITB.

    A) Saiss > Chilwell
    B) Saiss > Zouma
    C) Saiss + Foden > Coufal + Ziyech -4

I'm leaning B. Purely because of the flexibility it offers me in terms of getting City assets.

If I do B and keep the money in the bank, I can do in GW10:
    A) Rashford + Kane > KdB + Jesus
    B) Semedo + Rashford > KdB + Coufal
    C) Foden + Kane > KdB + Wilson

All for no hits if I can roll my FT in GW9 as planned.

If I get Chilwell a lot of these moves are off. Especially B which would preserve Kane.

Coufal option now is tempting as well, but if I get Ziyech in for Foden I'm actively trying to gain points in the short-term rather than plan for City coverage in GW10. This method places a lot of faith in Ziyech who has no direct replacements and will have to ride out a few weeks. I'm not sure I'm convinced yet. Keeping Foden for this week is nice too because in the event that Jota becomes a must-have, he's an easy like-for-like swap to Jota.

Am I on the right track here or is there something glaringly obvious that I'm missing?

      • 9 Years

Really interesting points. Same issue for me.

Chilwell is the obvs replacement for saiss

But zouma makes getting strrling and kdb an option gw10 I think .....

      1. Flynny
        • 9 Years
        3 years, 4 months ago

although I think I'm just going to get chilwell

Going for the obvious move is often better than going for the clever move

        Chilwell feels a great option

He is but is Chilwell really worth 0.7m more than Zouma and locking you out of City GW10 options? I think not. Zouma is a baps magnet too if it's a low scoring game. I think he can at least compete with Chilwell and who knows, he might have more headers in him too.

So Saiss > Coufal this week and save?

That's also an option. I think I prefer Zouma for the Chelsea double though. That defense is good. And I'd steal a march on the single Chelsea defense teams.

    3. Rashleigh Runabouts

If you really wanted Chilwell, you could generate some funds from Semedo to Kilman maybe. As it stands though, I'd do B and B. I'm getting in Chilwell for Saiss, just think he's a better option long term than Zouma. I'm stewing over my Ings replacement! GL mate.

    4. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 3 Years

Are you going to keep Zouma/Chilwell after GW10 if you go down one of those routes? If not then I'd just go with Zouma if you're set on a Chelsea def, otherwise it seems like you're struggling for flexibility not only initially but also possibly later on as if you're looking to move money around you will have used an extra transfer and might need yet another depending on circumstances.

Yeah I'm not buying this defender to be someone I sell in GW10 that's for sure.

Zouma looks a pretty safe bet. Chelsea look really good with Mendy, Zouma, Silva backline.

I want to go for Jesus but don't think I can bring myself to do so if Aguero is fit / nearly fit. He's exceptional when in form but I think he's at a point now where he's just going to endlessly pick up injuries even with Guardiola only giving him 50-60 mins a week, but even then I can see Jesus being rotated a lot with Sterling and Torres.

City way more solid now than Liv. Both very low ownership is a plus for me with the Chelsea fixtures getting a bit tougher. Happy with Just KDB don't trust Sterling and Aguero due back to challenge Jesus again. Liv I'm just going with Robertson, Salah and will punt on Jota. Big hitters likely to be Salah, KDB and Vardy.

Not by the looks of it. Might be subjet to change. Let's see how they get on vs Chelsea

Maupay, Pulisic and Saiss in my team. Luckily I got 2 FT to sort some of it out. Hoping I only need to use one (preferably Saiss). Don't want Wilson. Rather have Antonio when fit.

Are Pulisic owners holding? I think I will - also have Saiss and Ings

Don't see him starting the game even if he recovers. Best case scenario will be impact sub. Got him for a -4 last week in place of Grealish. So angry just ditched him for Zaha

Quick Question lads, which Prem game this GW will have the most goals in it in total??

(Just a comp I'm in whereby you select one team every week and you score the amount of goals in the game they played).

Initial thoughts were So'ton v New game but with Ings out i'm not sure?

Very hard to call (like most things this season).

      - Everton v MU could very well have a lot of goals in it as most of their home games (7,6,4) and MU's away games (5 each) have had so far
      - West Brom can't stop conceding and Spurs could bury them but could still concede too
      - City v Pool could easily be a goalfest just as easily as it could be decided by the odd goal

I'd go with Everton v MU myself
