Why I am Wildcarding for FPL Gameweek 9 and the key players I am signing

My Fantasy Premier League Wildcard is now active and in this article I will be going through the list of players and teams I am targeting.

With eight Gameweeks now gone, I feel I have enough data to make an informed decision.

As I am using this so extensively, only those with a valid Fantasy Football Scout subscription can access it in full.

Is Cancelo over Chilwell a daft move? Can only fit one in and City look like they will keep plenty of CSs in the coming weeks...

Their defence wouldn't fill me with confidence. If you do pick a City defender get one with some attacking threat.

City will get CSs. Defence getting stronger. But Chillwell's attacking threat is far more superior plus Chelsea defense is just as stong. Have Chillwell and might go for Cancelo after the Spurs game. If I didn't have none i would defo pick the Chelsea defender.

Lol! What kind of statement is this?
KDB is a very good player, but also Salah, Kane, Fernandes etc are very good players. But what exactly make KDB more fixture proof than these players? Stop making FFS stupid.

Not saying I agree with the original comment but you entirely miss the point. The measure of whether a player is 'fixture proof' is to look at their returns vs the big boys and compare with their returns vs the other teams. If KDB averages 6ppg against the big 6 and 5.9ppg against the whipping boys, he's fixture proof. If Sterling averages 2ppg against the big 6 and 14ppg against the whipping boys, he's not fixture proof. Would that make KDB a better asset than Sterling? With those made-up exaggerated stats, absolutely not. But last season I believe KDB was the only premium asset to noticeably perform better in the 'tough' matches and the logic given for this is that he plays in a more advanced role to unlock the 'better' defences. (Actually I think Rashford fell in this category as well, speed on the break etc.)

        1. Geenn

Ok, fair enough. But in that case I don't think KDB is the fixture proof player this season. Last year he maybe was, but right now it is Kane or Son and probably someone else at he end of the season. So, it is maybe not such thing as fixture proof players, but in form players that delivers points over some time, and that will change during the season. But, what is a though game in fantasy football? A tough game is not a game where you probably is going to lose, it is a game where you probably not going to score goals. If you look at goals conceded, some examples: Liverpool (17), Man United (14), Newcastle (13), West Ham (10). So a player scoring big versus Liverpool and Man United is more fixture proof than a player scoring against Newcastle and West Ham? In fact it is the straight opposite these days. The big boys are good at winning games, but not necessarily keeping clean sheets (ex. Liverpool). Opposite, some teams do not concede many goals, but they are not winning either (ex. Arsenal). The big six/the big boys, whatever you call them, are good at winning and score a lot of goals or score fewer goals and not concedeing. The whipping boys also tends to sit deeper versus attacking teams, therefore it could be more difficult to score on them. My point is, there is no absolutely science to this. FF is about scoring fantasy points, not winning games. But there are exceptions of course, but as a genereal rule, no! Liverpool and Man United are big boys in attack, but surely whipping boys at the back, this season.

    Salah Son Hamez Grealish (Podence)
    Kane DCL Wilson

    2 FTs, £1.4

Bruno a must have in GW9, then it is KDB or Vardy in GW10, and Ziyech in GW11. I think. So the plan could be :

    GW9 : Son > Bruno
    GW10 : Kane > Vardy or Kane + Podence + Wilson > Bamford/Watkins + KDB + Brewster (-4)
    GW11 : Hamez > Ziyech

Leaves me with the following captain choices :

    GW9 : Bruno - West Brom (H)
    GW10 : Vardy - Fulham (H) or Salah - Brighton (a)
    GW11 : KDB - Fulham (H)

Then woud ilt be worth taking hits to bring defenders ? I don't know. Defense of Chilwell, Konsa & Coufal could actually be okay.

United have the best xGA and BC Conceded in the league for the past 4 matches, having faced Newcastle, Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton.

City have the 2nd best xGA and BC Conceded in the league for the past 4 matches, having faced West Ham, Sheffield United, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Leicester are 10th having faced Wolves, Leeds, Villa and Arsenal so they don't look particularly great but Fulham are dire. They have the lowest xGA in the league according to fbref which is giving me pause for thought, but when captaincy is so tricky it may pay to simply put it on Mane/Salah and relax. DCL is very tempting though, like I said Fulham are so, so bad.

      Not waste...

Never know - Robbo was once a 4.5 player that came on for an injured veteran.

Liverpool would not keep an untalented kid. They would have already sold him to Fulham if they thought he was a bum.

I’m personally keeping Kane as he is out and out the best striker to own in the game and can score Vs anyone.

I’m also nervous losing Son as ironically he scores more vs top 6 teams as they play a higher line and he has more space to counter (look at utd game)

Hard to consider United a top six team right now ; but don’t disagree about Kane or Son - City were very open against Liverpool for 45 minutes which would Spurs fine.

Last season Son got 8 goals and 8 assists in 17 games against non-top 6 opposition; 2 goals and 3 assists in 8 games against top 6 opposition. Taking one game against United this season is a bit misleading.

So annoyingly I have used my wildcard but I am sitting here with a team that is at 80%. I will need to take a -12 this week to get it fighting fit until the new year and my question is this:

    1. Just take the hit now, get the team I want and hope the 9 GW until new year that come thick and fast will help
    2. Try and do it over time but potentially miss out on points

I have both Son and Kane and whilst I want to keep Kane, not having Bruno or Grealish is going to be an issue. And then after spurs I want KDB.

Any advice welcome and team below

    Martinez
    TAA, Masuaku, Chilwell, Lamptey (Dunne)
    Salah, Ziyech, Son, Jamez, (Alzate)
    Kane, DCL, Wilson

I am happy with the Everton guys with fixture swing but I need to get a city player in and Bruno

What changes are you planning f o r -12 points. Seems too much. Just because a few FFS posters are picking certain players there's no need to follow most of their moves. Do it gradually.

Tempted by Bruno but put off by the following:

After West Brom I won't captain him until next year.

United have a lot of big games (pretty much every game) in the prem and champions League. I can see him either getting rested or injured.

Pogba and VdB are waiting in the wings.

I guess the same could be spoken of any City asset but they may rotate in the champions League for easier games.

They will more likely rest players in the UCL after securing top in group than the premier league. Their league positions are too bad to rest players there.

Securing top in group? They might not even qualify after losing in Turkey. Very open group. Leipzig and PSG still in the mix.

You can say the same for KDB.

You can Captain him for Fulham and then Pep might rest him or play him as DM and let Gundogolan play #10.

All players are going to be exhausted by the terrible schedule.

      How about Ziyech.

Can he roam so free and get all the playing time when Pulisic and Havertz come back?

Another common question for a new EPL player, can he endure the schedule? Ajax plays a few good teams and then lots of Championship and League-1 level opponents in the Dutch league. He may not be used to playing in a men's league. We will see. He is good right now.

Already taken a -8 this GW. Not something I'd usually do, but players like Mitro/Foden/Saiss were dead assets who'd been stinking up my squad for weeks while bleeding TV. Have therefore designated this GW as my 'ripping off the plaster' week to take some pain so I can enjoy the rest of the season.

The question now is whether to take one more hit to do Son > Bruno (c), or just play Son & captain Salah?
