Kane, Fernandes or De Bruyne: Which premium FPL asset to own for Gameweek 9

Happy International Break everyone. Are you feeling glad that it’s here, with the opportunity to rest and recuperate from all the madness? Or are you longing for more football to sink your teeth into?

I feel as though Gameweeks 9 and 10 are crucial weeks in all of our seasons. Looking at the Season Ticker, there’s some huge swings in terms of difficulty, Manchester City soaring to the top with, debatably, the three best home games imaginable from both an attacking and defensive perspective.

Manchester United also emerge from a difficult run of games to host West Brom – before facing three out of four games away from home where they have, up until now at least, looked better than under the lights of Old Trafford.

Tottenham on the other hand sink to the bottom of the ticker, with Wolves also set to face three tough teams – and a local derby against in-form Villa to boot.

Lessons Learned from FPL Gameweek 8

I am not paying too much attention to fixtures this season. Sticking with both Kane and Son, for now.

Me too. They've both been on fire. Why ditch them for City assets who haven't done much yet. Wait and see. If Spurs tail off and someone else - e.g. City, Utd - start looking really good then make the switch.

If you're only paying attention to form, then it's 1 goal for Son in the last 3 GWs and 2 goal & 1 assist for Bruno.

Very short-term that though. So Son's blanked twice recently. Given his returns earlier in the season I'm very happy to given him time. How mnay people got burned shipping him out before a massive haul and then bringing him straight back in? No doubt Bruno is a decent option though. Reckon you can have both in your team if you choose.

Look at the stats. He's had double digit returns in GWs 2, 4, 5 & 6. That's a haul every other week on average!

Look at Bruno's lovely face. How can you not love the scamp

Dunno why the question is which one of these three players should you have for one week. The game is which ten players should you play with Bruno

Same ppminute as Salah for almost a calendar year now. In GW9 and asking whether he might be a good option

Probably goes some way to explaining why the scoutcasters are getting absolutely roasted by Granville

No doubt that he's a good option. Not convinced by Utd though. Too inconsistent. If you can afford Bruno though then do it - he's the one exception in the Utd team at the moment. Depends on who you have to lose to get him.

Too inconsistent for what. He's matching Salah this season, he outscored him ppmin last season. What are you waiting for?

United are too inconsistent. You never know which Utd will turn up and they seem to do worse against the teams you expect them to hammer. I'm not convinced at all by them at the moment. Compard to project restart they are really disappointing. But Bruno is a good option for sure if you have or want to make the space for him.

What is the problem with United's inconsistencies when Bruno has demonstrated that across almost a year he can match regardless. He has 3 blanks in 7, Salah has 3 blanks (but has played 8).

Team consistency largely doesn't matter. United have scored 12 goals, Bruno has been involved in 8. Liverpool have scored 18 goals, Salah has been involved in 9

I've had Bruno since GW2. The only question I'm asking is why after almost a year are we getting articles probing whether he's a good option.

He's a set and forget. Shouldn't even be in the equation of this article

Fair enough. The issue for me is more that there are lots of good options, especially this year it seems, and you can't have them all. I won't be dropping Son from Bruno (yet). Hamez could be a route in. Except that Everton have three nice fixtures with a plum game vs Fulham next week. So I'm holding off. Also not sure whether Bruno or KDB/Sterling is the one I want so buying more time to make up my mind. I think it's cool that there are lots of decisions to make this year and plenty of scope for teams to be different.

    Good evening all,

For GW10, if you could only get Foden or Jesus for a City asset, which move would you prefer to do?

    A) DCL to Jesus
    B) Soucek to Foden

Jesus threat will be if Aguero is back and with Foden, given his lack of recent gametime I think he gets decent minutes in these ‘easier’ games.

    Thoughts appreciated.

Not sure that Rodriguez out before Fulham is a good idea. And then two more nice fixtures after that. I'd use one FT this week and save the other so you have 2 for GW10 when the fixtures really swing. Gives you more time to weigh up City and Utd assets as well.

    2. RogDog_jimmy

Maybe Robbo > Chilwell if you prefer that fixture. But hold on rest.
Use that extra money next gameweek with 2 frees to get to KDB/Fernandes if you want.
Everton fixtures are good in the next month, i'd stick on JRod and DCL.

If Gomez is out for a while it could make Jota a great option with Fabinho having to fill in at CB until January.

should make them less likely to play a midfield 3 I'd guess, meaning Jota starts more consistently instead of Jones/Wijnaldum.

Klopp might prioritise playing a front 4 over a midfield 3. Seems like Wijnaldum future is uncertain, and Jones probably isn't ready to become a regular.

        1. Bojam
          • 6 Years
          3 years, 4 months ago

It's possible but basically just conjecture at this point. Pool have enough central midfielders to play 3, even with Fabinho playing CB. Wait and see.

          1. F4L
            • 9 Years
            3 years, 4 months ago

yeah its a wait and see. But it's definitely something that should be in Jota's favour.

              • 6 Years
              3 years, 4 months ago

Could be. Klopp talked about how having Jota gives them more options in formation. But the 4-3-3 has been really successful for them and I'd be suprised if he moved away from it consistently. Think he'll vary the formation depending on the opposition. Jota could get starts anyway as he can play right across the front 3.

They’ll go 4231, instead of 433. Easier for Jota to find a space in the former, harder in the latter.

    4. GreennRed
      • 12 Years
      3 years, 4 months ago

Would expect CBs to be Fabinho and Gomez regularly if both were fit and Van Dijk out. Klopp won't expect Klopp to do what Fabinho does in the Pool midfield. Jota's route in is probably by displacing Firmino.

      1. F4L
        • 9 Years
        3 years, 4 months ago

Maybe, but with Gomez fit its Henderson + Fabinho + one of Wij/Jones/Thiago/Keita in the midfield.

Now if Fabinho has to start regularly at CB, Klopp has to decide whether to play an in form Jota, or one of Wij (who wants to leave judging by not signing a contract), a youngster in Jones and Keita who is extremely injury prone.

Also it was very promising that Klopp used the 4231 in Liverpool's hardest fixture of the season, it obviously shows he trusts it. But I guess it is a wait and see for now.

        1. Bojam
          • 6 Years
          3 years, 4 months ago

Keita's a good player - just needs to stay fit and get a run in the team. His stats from last season based on minutes played are pretty good. And Liverpool fans were keen to see him start more this season, judging from pre-season articles and forums. Thiago is gonna start a lot of games as well once fit. They have plenty of options.

      2. Bamford (kind of fixture proof, will probably score against big teams. I prefer him as I don't want AVL attack double up)
      3. Antonio (If fit. Can be a risky pick, but can be a huge differential if he finds his form)

      - Ziyech to Son,
      - Taylor to Cancelo, and play 442.
      - Downgrade one of those hefty mids Salah or Bruno to Grealish and upgrade Soucek in case you want to play 5 mid

You’re trading 2 (probably) inactive players for 2 active ones for starters, count the hits only as a -2, so you’re effective taking only a -4 hit, very likely to pay off immediately, I’d say do it

Thoughts on the following? Got an awkward sum itb with no super clear moves. Will want enough left itb for Zouma to City def GW10.

    1FT 1.6m ITB WC available

    McCarthy (Button)
    Chilwell Zouma Taylor (Justin Mitchell)
    Salah Son Sterling ASM (Bissouma)
    Werner DCL Watkins

Go Spursless with Son to Bruno (C)? ASM is the biggest issue with the above IMO, but no mid up to 6.9m really interests me (Jota? Bowen?)

Is it me or people are overrating Spurs current form ? It's 4 goals in 3 games against Burnley, Brighton and West Brom. 2 blanks for Son, 0 double digit haul for Kane.

Late winners against Brighton, Burnley and West Brom aren't a good look for sure. Not sure facing better defenses compensates for more space on the counter

I can't see them scoring 2+ goals in each game over the next 5. When City could score 6 just against Fulham...

Yes but I feel GW10 will be the right time to jump on KDB and be ahead of the curve. Like GW9 feels like the right time to jump on Bruno. I could be wrong I could be right.

Bruno scored 17 last week, his third double digit in 7. Jumping on after that doesn't feel very consistent with jumping on KdB before he's demonstrated any form, missing a pen in the last game no less

Not saying you shouldn't like, just these don't seem very comparible approaches

I agree. Even though I think Salah is a much much better option than Mané this year with all those pens.

Salah is a better option for sure but I couldn't afford him at the time and it's a useless swap to make right now

Must feel like a waste of a transfer but if Salah keeps outscoring him it would be hard not to make the move. But for now Salah won't be a main (C) option for a few gameweeks so I can't see why you're not panicking. Just GW12 could be a worry.

Mane isn't some chump lmao, his underlying stats are excellent and he's playing very well. I may make the move down the line but have more high impact moves to make, perfectly happy captaining him against Fulham

Each Spurs explosion this season has had an unpredictable factor come into play. In all other games where these factors didn't come into play, they've behaved like normal premiums

Ralph sticking to the stupid high line that allowed te same goal to be copy pasted 4 times
        Martial's red
West Ham's 20 minutes of madness in the first half

Nothing else. They've looked normal in all other scenarios in the league. Laboured wins here. Penalty there. Last gasp winner here. Unable to breach a good defence there

I still think the Kane-Son connection is really impressive though. Just don't believe they will be essential over the next gameweeks so no reason to keep imo.

A normal premium will absolutely batter a bad defence

I didn't say they've been bad. I said they've behaved like normal premiums in those other games without the unexpected factors

I don't like the Sterling pick but now you've kept him until now, may aswell keep him for the beautiful fixtures coming.

I don't see any reason to ditch any of those though. Maybe obviously the mainstream Son/Kane out to bring Bruno/KDB/Vardy.

I am having Sterling since GW5 and swapping him for KDB looks very sideways.
Kane to Vardy can be a direct swap. Or can double up with KDB and Sterling with Ziyech by sacrificing Son and Kane.
