Salah tests positive for coronavirus – Egyptian FA

Mohamed Salah (£12.4m) has tested positive for coronavirus while on international duty with Egypt.

The Egyptian Football Association announced on Friday that the Liverpool midfielder returned a positive test ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Togo but is asymptomatic.

The (translated) statement read:

The medical swab conducted on the mission of our first national football team showed that our international player, Mohamed Salah, the star of Liverpool, was infected with the coronavirus after his test came out positive – although he does not suffer from any symptoms.

[He] was subject to the medical protocol after the coordination of the national team doctor, Dr Muhammad Abu Al-Ola, with his English club, Liverpool, in addition to isolating him in his room and also isolating all contacts.

In a later announcement, Egypt confirmed that a second test backed up the findings of the first:

At the time of writing, Liverpool have yet to confirm the news.

Barring any further developments, Salah will now have to undergo a period of self-isolation and will very likely be unavailable for the Gameweek 9 visit of Leicester City.

The Reds are already injury-ravaged heading into that fixture, with Joe Gomez (£5.4m) joining Virgil van Dijk (£6.3m) on the sidelines and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.4m) also a major doubt with a calf problem.

Sadio Mane (£12.0m) of course tested positive for coronavirus last month, returning to training at Melwood after a 10-day period of self-isolation and featuring for the Reds in the Merseyside derby, 15 days after his initial diagnosis.

Salah could feasibly return in Gameweek 10, then, if a similar timeframe of recovery, isolation and return to training pans out – although there is also the small matter of a flight back to England in between.

We have already seen West Bromwich Albion’s Callum Robinson (£5.5m) withdraw from the Republic of Ireland squad after returning a positive test of his own.

Wolves’ Conor Coady (£5.0m) is also self-isolating after coming into contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19.

Earlier on Friday, Ireland revealed that Alan Browne had returned a positive coronavirus test after playing against England – although the Football Association of Ireland added that “no close contacts of the player” had been identified.

Who would you rather have from GW10-15?
    A) Vardy
    B) Bruno

Vardy most likely becomes Kane and Bruno would become Son it also depends a bit on that...
But I'm leaning towards Vardy as that would be a 343 and so much value in budget strikers

If both Rashford and Salah confirmed out, which option is worth -4?

    A) Salah to Mane
    B) Salah to Ziyech
    C) Salah to kdb
    D) Rashford to Ziyech

    Also have Bruno, Zahaj, Grealish,
Taylor and Brewster to come in for Salah and Rashford if no hit

I have Mane currently who’s just become even more of a differential! Unfortunately I can’t get in Bruno (for Son) and KDB like most probably will over the next two games. Should I just forget about Bruno this week and get in KDB.

Bruno is a trap. One good fixture against west brom and utd always struggle against a low block.

I reckon this weeks a good differential week. I'm captaining Vardy.

It’s funny how owning a player changes your perspective

I said yesterday that Semado looked great in Portugal’s 7-0 win against Andorra, that was of course met with ‘farmers’....‘I could look good against Andorra’

Guarantee there is some of the same people who own ziyech thinking that this means he’s in great form haha

Of course, as usual the right response is somewhere in the middle

I dont think its worth burning a transfer for Salah, especially if it's only 1 GW. Maybe if you wanted to bring in Mane as this would give you Liverpool cover, otherwise its a waste of 2 transfers. With the City fixtures coming up I dont want to waste my future moves.

That being said, who should I bring in off my bench:

    Dallas or Lamptey?

Over the course of the season, you'll get more points if you play the odds of getting the most points from each of your XI slots, in theory. So if you are a rational player, you'd go for the one you think is likely to score the most points individually. If you're a romantic player, you will make the decision for the wrong reasons 😉

Why is chilwell a must? I’m seeing him everywhere but his run is:

        new - pretty good
        TOT - not great
        LEE - perfect
        eve - not great
        wol - difficult
        WHU - alright
        ars - difficult
        AST - pretty good
        MCI - difficult
        lei - difficult

That’s more bad games than good over the next 10. Leeds and West Ham home are the only proper plum ones. I need to replace TAA but I just can’t see a Chelsea defender being the answer with those games.

i can't see many clean sheets there, though few attacking returns for Chilwell. Which isn't a given.

          clean sheet chance:
          new- high
          TOT- medium
          LEE- low
          eve- medium
          wol- medium
          WHU- medium

Did anyone consider what impact in positive way(FPL related) will Mo testing positive for Covid be?

The way i see it, Mo will have a nice 2 week rest when everyone else is playing 3 games a week.

And after beeing positive for Covid he should be safe for next few months while everyone else can get it.

Lots of people jumping on City players but i think it could be a trap. Last game City lined up without Mahrez,Silva, Foden and Kun. With all of them available i see lots of rotation ahead. Sterling is playing all the games for club and country, as is KdB who also have little injury problems lately.

This Salah saga for me highlights 2 points:

    1. The importante of having a playing bench not as much as a source of points but as enabler for your portfolio of options regarding transfers, hits etc.

    2. The sillyness of people making early transfers, some even taking hits, to catch price rises or just out of boredom. It will cost you time and yime again, and yet....

Yeah playing bench can be handy but i still prefer to keep them really cheap as hate having to make benching decisions each week. Zambo Anguissa, Mitchell and Kilman will do for now.

Lots of reasons people go for early transfers, sometimes you get burned sometimes it works out fine. I'm trying to wait longer this season, normally as I never have a clue what transfers I want to make!

Agreed, this week was probably not the best time for it as internationals bring injuries as well as COVID implications. Tbh they should have cancelled all internationals during this period.

Yep, Just a different playing style with obviously additional risk attached, but works if TV is one of your criteria for the big guns. Personally it's never been my bag as the season tends to throw up good value options as it progresses.

There's no steadfast way of playing this game. A flexible plan with plenty of luck seems to help though 😉

I dont know why but the term used here a lot 'low block' really annoys me. I swear it wasn't even a term a year or so ago.

I don't like it either. I prefer 'dig a moat'. As in WBA are going to dig a moat against Man U. I'm sure everyone will be using this a year from now.

A goal always changes things, Bruno sticks in a free kick in the first 15 minutes and they have to let down the drawer bridge

Calm down and accept having only 9 players this gw and use the free transfer to do TAA to Patrick van Aanholt?

    a. yes
    b. take a hit or two

    Martínez
    TAA, Chilwell, Lamptey
    Son, Salah, Fernandes, Grealish
    Wilson, Bamford, Jiménez

    Button, Burke, Mitchell, Dunne
1 free transfer, 1.2 million in the bank

I played 10 deliberately one week last season, its just not much fun as you are at a disadvantage before you start the week, try field a full 11 if you can imo. Although if one of the hits is to sell Salah i wouldn't do that.

Is it too risky to do the following moves over the next 2 GW's for a combined -12?
    Salah + TAA + Barnes + Zaha + Maupay > Grealish + Coufal + KDB + Vardy + Coufal

I think those moves are fine, especially over two weeks and early-ish in the season. They are pretty template so don't expect to increase your rank much in the short term (unless Vardy goes on a run) but you're more likely to slip with the players you have now.

come on fella, you have to do a bit of work

Fixtures swing over the next 4 games away from Spurs, Wolves & Chelsea and towards City, Utd, WHU

A few Chelsea, chuck in Grealish & DCL, City & Utd mid, City defender etc

Salahs wedding visit was prearranged through Liverpool. If he stays within a secure bubble he does not have to self isolate for 14 days upon return to the UK

Its clear from the wedding pictures that Covid safety protocols such as safe distancing and face masks were not being followed.

Therefore Salah was no longer meeting the Covid security protocols for an athlete travelling abroad. He would not be allowed to train with the other players in Egypt and would have had to self isolate upon return to the UK.

Instead he was happy to break safety protocols, risk getting Covid19 and also risk passing this on to his team mates in Egypt and also those in Liverpool.

Once he broke Covid security protocols at the wedding you would expect an announcement should have been made by the authorities declaring this and that Salah must now self isolate from the team. No announcement was made.

I can't defend someone who breaks privileged security protocols for his own entertainment and put other peoples health at risk. As a professional athlete he has to meet Covid security protocols he cannot just do what he likes.
