Our mini-league leader Mario sits joint-seventh in the world, just 13 points off first place on the overall leaderboard.

It’s tight at the top of the Fantasy Football Scout league, however, with just six points separating second and tenth.

And nothing is settled just yet, with all of our top ten having used at least one chip already.

Our European football whizz, FFFrog, will return next Tuesday with his preview of Matchday 4.

      Everyone has Salah.
Loads have got Chilwell. Quite a lot still have TAA.
Then there's the likes of Robertson, Ward-prowse, Wilson, Rashford, Coady and Sterling who are all still in plenty of teams.
What advice to those who have 5 or more flagged? Treat every player on their individual circumstances? So many yellow flags - surely some will be back this or next week? Perhaps this is a good week to Free Hit?

Obviously the most pressing thing you guys need to cover is what to do about Salah - encapsulated within a chat about what we think about Pool options in general now their entire DF is possibly injured.

The bench? Is Covid a game changer ?

I often hear ‘how often do we ever get to our third sub’ and for that reason it is normally a non playing fodder.

However we do often get to our second playing sub but he is so rubbish we take a hit anyway and do not play them.

      So, should we
a, have a bench of complete fodder (maybe just one starter as cheap as you can get) and accept we will need a -4 quite often, or
b, actually have a decent bench so you are happy to allow subs no. 1 & 2 to play in lieu of players that you know are injured before the deadline, rather than taking hits

yeah I think this - the Covid season - needs a different squad to other seasons where your second sub just needs to be as cheap as possible and will make do with 2points, while your third is ideally even cheaper than possible (3.9mil or under)

Is it worth paying 5.5m for the likes of Dias that only really offer clean sheet potential?

Is there a case for a West Ham defensive double up to save funds for midfield or attack?

Is there a case for a power 5 of Salah, KDB, Bruno, Grealish and Ziyech when everyone is fit and firing?

What mistakes have you made this season and what would you change going forward?

Do you think top managers will be looking more at players with excellent injury records given that injuries have increased this season.

I prefer rotating 4.5's with more attacking potential and save 0.5

Wouldn't double up on any team defensively at the moment.

        Yes. See Zøphar's template WC

Taking a hit to get Robertson as an addittion to TAA. Then Allison got injured and I deided to wildcard the week after

        No.

1 - How many City do we really need? Is there a case to stick to one and wait to see how they perform or go all out and triple up?

2 - With so many games coming up, how much rotation do you really see happening? With the European teams all looking reasonably placed in their groups, will it be Europe they rotate in or will we it be horses for courses and rotation for “easier” PL fixtures? I’m thinking Pep roulette mainly but not exclusively.

Is it worth it to save the wildcard until Christmas ? What are the main advantages?
My team is not that bad now I can do with just 1 FT, but ideally I'd use 4-5 transfers.

Just for reference, that's my team:
      Mccarthy - Steer
      Chilwell - kilman - justin - feurgeson - Lewis
      Salah - Son - Grealish - Soucek - Anguissa(4.5 fodder)
      DCL - Kane - Werner
And I'm currently set on at least Kane ---> Vardy

Whilst I can see the appeal - I actually think he's being mentioned TOO MUCH on here.

I would never consider a guy who, when everybody is fit, is definitely not first choice in any position on the pitch.

Short term, you might get some points from him, especially given Salah has covid now. But, medium term he's gunna do your head in and may even end up blocking bench points with his cameos.

Big no for me unless he displaces Firmino in the side

Pretty sure he plays further up the field for his country. He's always had the pedigree (remember his 4 goals against Norwich) but doesn't fulfil the same role for his club nowadays, and with Liverpool's current weakness being in defence I don't see that changing

For as bad as WB are they've improved defensively recently and have only conceded 4 in their last 4 (compared to 13 in their first 4), plus MU have been pretty poor at home. I don't normally like to place much emphasis on away / home differences certainly with no fans at stadiums but there seems to be a difference for MU between the two. They're also not great at breaking down sides with a low block

Vardy + Berge > Grealish + Bamford is the natural one.

I'd start my draft with Grealish and then go from there.

Dr Hossam Hosny, who supervises Mo Salah’s Case just said that he will have a swab test on Thursday, and if it was negative he can travel back to England, but it would be better to have two swabs. And after 10 days of getting the virus, he can go back to training.

If Salah, Chilwell don't show up I'll get Walker-Peters (wol) & Brewster (WHU) off the bench which isn't awful.

But feels like this IB is insisting that I play the thing & just get the likes of Vardy, Cancelo, Sterling as well. Even Bruno F maybe.

I was eyeing up the latest possible WC to take advantage of those blanks and doubles... obviously that's over Christmas though so not optimal really.

I'll be on a -4 when I do Bissouma->Grealish. Possibly another -4 next week for City assets...

Might be a Saturday morning panic! Yay!

Whatever you do, resist the urge to do a panic WC right before the deadline, could work out but there'd be a big chance you'd regret it. If you're going into Friday night (relatively) happy with your team then I'd say stick with it (apart from maybe changing around starting XI of course)

Probably not a popular opinion but I think this is generally not a great time to play a WC. So much short term unrest that anyone WCing is kind of stuck between picking a team that looks great short term but perhaps isn't really the team they would choose in a fortnight. GW10 looks way more appealing

      1. Shatner's Bassoon
        • 5 Years

Yeah I can see a lot of WCers scrambling to get Salah back for example in week 12, especially if they have gone for Fernandes instead.

In my mind that could be funded by DCL to a Leeds forward for their fixture swing... but not easy.

Chilwell is another who I would like long-term if he's fit but couldn't keep on WC.

I do agree with you there to a point, last week I wanted to leave Robertson on the bench as I didn't really know what to expect from them but I saw lots of people saying to others that leaving a 7m defender on the bench is crazy so I ended up putting him in over Justin and regretted it. But that being said I just can't see why you'd bench KDB, are you thinking Spurs will do City? I think they could definitely beat them but I still wouldn't bench him if I had him

Salah + Chilwell (and Mitchell but that's not of consequence). Already jettisoned Trent with my free.

If towards end of the week its looking likely that Salah might miss 2 games then taking a -8 to move on for Mane rather then playing wildcard sensible? would get salah back on wildcard shortly. current team is below and already taken a -4!

    McCarthy
    Chilwell / Bellerin / Dallas
    Salah / Fernandes / Soucek / Ziyech
    Kane / Watkins / Vardy

    Button / Bissouma / Justin / Mitchell

Guys, why price changes are not direcrly related to certain inputs, like, number of sales/purchases? It would be so simple mathematically.

    1. thegaffer82
      • 12 Years
      3 years, 4 months ago

It is kind of linked to sales/purchases. But, higher owned players have a higher threshold, whereas lower owned players have a smaller threshold.

Then, I think that they keep some price manipulation wankery in there so they can manipulate certain players' price as and when they so choose (and just to keep everyone guessing)

          I can't answer that question.

I think they like to keep control and can force through or block the price changes of popular picks depending on what will be 'popular' with the masses perhaps?

            Probably.

But it is out of logic. They are "monopolist" in that case 🙂

I think it's literally about the fifth GW this season that I've thought to myself:

    "God, I wish I had a WC"

Chilwell, Salah, Podence, Mitchell, TAA, Son, and probably even Justin and Brewster would be out too in a switch switch back to 3-4-3

Oh well, I think it's a 4pter, change Salah & TAA and then leave it at that for this week

I want to switch to a 3-5-2. Are you playing four at the back?

Nope, I'm a 3-5-2 but kind of feel I'm missing out with Wilson, Watkins & Bamford all scoring goals for fun (I do have a beautiful MF though)

Probably no point thinking about it until Friday but:
    McCarthy
    Chilwell Cancelo Kilman
    Son Grealish Soucek Bissouma
    Kane Werner DCL
    (4.0 Salah* Shaw* Ferguson*)
    1.2ITB 0ITB

Transferred early which I don’t fully regret (yet) but willing to take 1 hit max

    A) Salah -> Bruno (-4)
    B) Shaw -> Cresswell/ Coufal (Coufal allows Son -> KDB) (-4)
    C) No hits
    D) Wildcard

I'm the same except I've got TAA in there too.

However, with other players who aren't injured but are not likely to get any returns, it's a worrying situation (Podence, Brewster, Justin this week)

Same here but there are still a lot of international games left so I'm expecting at least 2 more flags before the weekend.
