Scoutcast Episode 352 – Tackling the international break injury crisis

Joe and Az are joined by Seb Wassell as they look ahead to Gameweek 9 and a growing injury crisis among a number of popular Fantasy Premier League assets.

Suddenly, many FPL managers teams have turned red, orange and yellow as injury and sickness flags are being waved across their teams.

Joe, Az and Seb’s squads are no exception as they ponder whether to keep hold or ditch the likes of Mohamed Salah (£12.3m), Raheem Sterling (£11.5m), Ben Chilwell (£6.0m) and Andrew Robertson (£7.1m).

Understandably, they open the show with a look at the various ways FPL managers can tackle the current glut of knocks and niggles.

The fixture swing away from Tottenham Hotspur and towards the two Manchester clubs and Leicester City is also considered. Could Gameweek 9 be time for an early Jamie Vardy (£10.1m) party? Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne (£11.5m) and Bruno Fernandes (£10.6m) look great transfer targets. But how do FPL managers fit both in?

Aside from a brief look back at Gameweek 8’s key moments, our trio also reveal their impending transfer and captaincy plans.

Meanwhile, Seb takes his turn to pick a differential amid better fortunes – at last – for the Scoutcast’s low-owned selections.

Joe and Az also find time to quiz Seb on his role as a features designer on Football Manager. Are there similarities in strategy between this popular football simulation game and FPL?

Ferran Torres where does he fit into City?
After last night performance he needs to be playing?

I would love to get him if it wasn’t for guardiola, far too much competition for that rw position

Think he could establish himself in Peps preferred line up, maybe Raz-Jesus-Ferran.

But will be plenty of rotation of course, he'll be right up there though.

Who knows, was probably Aguero last time both were fully fit but I suspect that may have changed

We all know Pep has no loyalty over players just scoring hat tricks. He’s benched aguero before and Bernardo last season after hat tricks. The Torres hatty might mean nothing on his playing time lol

tough, looks like you will be fielding 1 this week and foden will probably be benched again.

I'm in a similar boat and looking at foden and kane to bruno and watkins. may also do Trent to Cancelo for a hit but could just play Anguissa.

I think I'm fed up of hoping, wonderful fixtures upcoming but all city attackers are getting back to fitness now. I recon he starts 1 on 3 at best and id rather have watkins at that price. Tough one as you know he could haul big.

Thoughts on how much you should spend on your bench?

On a WC and mine currently is: Soucek - Justin - Kilman

    Should I downgrade?

    1. ElliotJHP
      • 11 Years
      3 years, 4 months ago

That's fine, Soucek could become a 4.4/4.5 mid if you want but I'd quite like the Soucek option if you don't need the funds

Wouldn't get Justin on a WC. He will lost his place in the coming months when Pereira and Castagne are fit. Would go for another 4.5ish nailed started instead e.g. Targett, KWP, Lamptey, Coufal, Taylor, Ayling, Dallas, Lewis

Not much, but I favor Rashford over him. Brighton's xGA is one of the best in the league, Ryan's Kepa-esque form seems to be holding them back. Let's see if it continues.

Wouldn't usually suggest WC but not a fan of Bellerin, sterling and lookman. Chillwell KDB and ziyech much better. Not keen on losing Salah without an easy route back to him though. And its a waste of cash to have bamford or jota on the bench. Stick with one and get a 4.5m

He's a good option too. I still wouldn't overthink it honestly, if you go DCL and Bruno hauls still good, and vice versa. Noone has crystal ball of what happens on the day but if you pick someone who's team wins and they score goals and there was a good chance of involvement, then it was always the right choice and move on.

Prefer KDB but if you already own Sterling no reason to swap to be honest. Sterling has shown when he scores he scores big, he was similar last season, off form for a long time and then all of a sudden he gets 20 goals his best ever. Hold tight

Pulisic to Ziyech a straightforward move or is there a case for JRod due to the fulham game?

    1. ElliotJHP
      • 11 Years

My dilemma, but I am moving on Foden.

Ziyech makes sense long term, I also think Leeds will be a good game for Chelsea. But Spurs, Everton & Wolves away will all be tricky.

And those next three for Everton look fantastic, and I am really tempted by the double up with DCL.

Think I might be leaning towards James, but it is a tough call.

I'm also going slightly off Newcastle as a fixture for Chelsea, I think Silva is a big miss (if out as reported) in progressing the ball forward and Chelsea tend to struggle against the Toon.

I have no interest in DCL (c) this week oddly. I can't see him getting double digits. Fulham are not that bad defensively and Everton in a dry run of form.

It's between Grealish and Rash (c) (don't have Bruno). Salah was my first choice but doesn't look like he's gonna make this game.

Being 16th best for BC conceded and xGA over the past 4 despite a fixture run of West Ham, West Brom, Palace and Sheff Utd are not stats to inspire optimism.

Fulham have only conceded 4 goals in their last 4 matches.

Their expected data is worse but it's arguably fair considering they have a really good keeper in Areola who has performed very well since he came in.

I don't like DCL that much as an option either. His stats in recent weeks don't suggest a haul is imminent. Not enough shots/chances. I know Rich is back, but it's a lot to ask for all the South American guys to click right away especially since they both played in their country qualifiers yesterday.

Don't think he's the best choice. Grealish is clearly superior imo and Rashford has a higher ceiling.

I don't captain players against other top 6 sides as a rule (this season at least).

There are surely better options than Kane vs City.

That said, I agree in general about Kane as an asset. He is not going anywhere in my team. He will stay even through these tough fixtures as long as his stats and returns keep up.

EFL has agrred to increase the substitution to 5 per game.

Will PL follow? if so, what are the implications for you and for those who still have their WC in terms of FPL Team management?

Would that change the dynamics between premium and budget player? For instance, does this clearly decreases a KDB or a Son appeal and increases a Jota / Mahrez one?

    1. Debauchy
      • 11 Years
      3 years, 4 months ago

Hmmm I hope not as gives managers the opportunity to make some early subs ( before the 60 ) Don't think it will affect premiums like KDB though

Nope, all the teams in the EFL have a similar number and quality of squad players. In the EPL the bigger clubs have better squads and so would be given a bigger advantage then the rest of the teams.

Would really appreciate some advice here. have 1 FT
    Martinez - (4.0)
Robbo - James - Lamptey- Coufal - (Dunne)
    Son - Grealish - Foden - (Salah) - (Alzate)
    Kane - Werner - DCL

Logical move is to do Foden -> Jota/Barkley and bench Salah right?
