Barnes on Leicester’s bench as Vardy faces Fulham as Gameweek’s most-captained

Brendan Rodgers has pulled the rug from underneath the feet of 4.1% of Fantasy Premier League managers by naming Harvey Barnes (£6.9m) among the substitutes for Gameweek 10.

Leicester host Fulham in one of their most favourable matches of the season so far, perhaps why he has dropped the winger back to the bench following three starts in the last four Gameweeks.

James Maddison (£7.0m) and Dennis Praet (£5.5m) are afforded the support roles in attacking midfield tonight, behind Jamie Vardy (£10.2m), who looks set to truly define the outcome of Gameweek 10 for many.

The Leicester striker was top of the Fantasy Football Scout captain poll last week, emerged as the top 10k’s favourite skipper and collected over a million armbands worldwide for this match.

However, if Vardy is to truly reward the groundswell of support he must do tonight something he done only once in 2020/21 so far: score a Premier League goal at home.

He has 10 attacking returns this season but nine of those have come on the road, the other recorded against Wolves in Gameweek 8.

Fulham are the perfect opponent to face in the face of that quest though. They have given up an average of 1.8 goals per away game this season.

Interest in their assets continues to wane, especially considering that both Tom Cairney (£5.3m) and Aleksandar Mitrović (£5.6m) have been named on the bench, Ruben Loftus-Cheek (£5.9m) and Ivan Cavaleiro (£5.3m) handed the number 10 and centre-forward roles respectively.

Leicester City XI (3-4-2-1): Schmeichel; Fuchs, Evans, Fofana; L Thomas, Tielemans, N Mendy, Justin; Maddison, Praet; Vardy.

Fulham XI (4-2-3-1): Areola; A Robinson, Adarabioyo, Andersen, Aina; Zambo Anguissa, Reed; Lookman, Loftus-Cheek, De Cordova-Reid; Cavaleiro.

Lessons Learned from FPL Gameweek 10

I've been pondering the Cavani situation. If he gets a 3 match ban it will be ridiculous.

Is the world so black and white (no pun intended) that people from different cultures aren't allowed to express themselves in their own culture to a best friend in their own culture, whilst living in a different culture?

The fact that Bilva got branded a racist and a one match ban for tweeting to a team mate and best friend, just shows how much the system is f-cked up. I don't think Bilva's form has ever recovered.

I know there's a bunch of people tasked with driving out racism in football. I'll nail my colours to the flag pole now. Racism is abhorrent and should be exterminated with all prejudice.

But if we all what to live in a multicultural society, can we please accept that someone from another culture may make an unintended mistake? And then learn from it. They don't need to be dragged over hot coals.

    YMMV.

He used the word 'Negrito' but in a friendly manner, to a Black fan who was complementary.

Many people saying while the word looks bad to anyone seeing it first time, in some quarters of South America its akin to saying 'My *******' and are claiming back from racists who use it as a slur.

Didn't Suarez use this too? I guess context is very important. But I don't think the FA should go into sub culture nuances, blanket ban.

The question is, why is he referring to a black fan by the colour of his skin, even if meant in a friendly manner?

The word is basically a throwback to the times of when the black population were considered slaves. That culture still exists in large parts of Latin America and unless challenged, will persist.

Calling someone a "black fan" is also referring to someone by the colour of their skin
Nigrum is the Latin word for black - all romance languages are based on Latin - nothing to do with slavery or racism

The only reason I used 'black fan' in my post is because it is relevant to Cavani's post on Instagram. Why does the colour of his skin matter in Cavani's reply?

Because of the bias that exists (as I said not conscious) within the culture that the language used sees black people as inferior.

Change the actions and change the language.

But you are still using the word black .. because you are using English. What would you have typed in you were using Spanish?

English : "why is he referring to a black fan by the colour of his skin"
Spanish : "¿por qué se refiere a un ventilador negro por el color de su piel"

Sometimes I feel like you English and Americans look at the whole world through your cultural, marked with history of slavery, glasses. The main reason for all prejudice is not understanding another person really.

Yeah, Suarez used it in an aggressive manner, during an argument, with a man of colour on the pitch.

Cavani used it post match in a celebratory way.

I do think context matters and by no means do I think Cavani meant it in a bad way.

Disagree. Punish the action and educate the perpetrator.

Punishment sends the signal not to do it. Education helps to eradicate it in future.

Nope. I just understand why people use the words they do. Do I think Cavani is being deliberately racist? No

But it is part of the subconscious bias to refer to black people by their skin colour. A throwback to the times when black people were slaves.

This is the most arrogant and asinine thing I've seen in while. And whose culture/values should we base this global re-education on? Yours? Don't assume other cultures are backwards simply because they do not line up with your preconceived notions of what constitutes a decent human being.

Everyone's cultures. Take the best out of all cultures. As I said 'All cultures have learning to do'.

But if you honestly believe that black people are treated worse in the UK than in Russia, say, then you are deluded.

Once again, who determines what is the "best" of all cultures. If you can't see that this is highly subjective then it is you who are deluded.

I am from South America (Ecuador) and I agree 10000%. This is part of our culture. We used different nicknames to close friends in a different manner, for example:
        - If you look Asian your nick is "Chino"
        - If you are from Middle East your nick is "Turco"
        - If you are from USA your nick is "Gringo"
        - Same with the people of color, we use "Negrito"
        - Colombians for example use the word "marica" for everything (Google the translation) , this word is widely used as “brother”, “mate” or “pal” with no intention to offend no one.

Because you call these nicknames to your close friends, never to strangers. There is a difference. Same as Cavani, he mentioned that to a friend not to a stranger.

People comparing this to Suarez incident makes me sick.
Strip it back to context and the meaning in his native tongue. - he’s don’t nothing wrong. End of. He’s been made aware, he’s apologised - end of and move on.

It would be easier to accept an “unintended mistake” if we were talking about a 20 year old kid signed straight from a Uruguayan club. But Suarez played in Amsterdam for 5 years before joining Liverpool, and Cavani has been playing in Paris for the last 7 years. The Cavani situation is different to that of Suarez, not last because Cavani has apologised. I felt ashamed to be a Liverpool fan when the club defended him to the hilt and the players wore those ridiculous t-shirts

      Salah Jota Grealish Bruno
      Wilson Kane DCL
      (Steer, Bidsoumma, Kilman, Mitchell)

Is DCL to Jesus madness? Or Mitchell to Mendy? Maybe Laporte as a safe bet... Too many options!
