More home struggles for Vardy as Lookman’s FPL form continues

Leicester 1-2 Fulham

  • Goals: Harvey Barnes (£6.9m) | Ademola Lookman (£5.0m), Ivan Cavaleiro (£5.3m)
  • Assists: Jamie Vardy (£10.2m) | André-Franck Zambo Anguissa (£4.5m), Bobby Decordova-Reid (£5.3m)
  • Bonus points: Cavaleiro x3, Anguissa x2, Lookman x1

KING SOUR STADIUM

Jamie Vardy‘s (£10.2m) lacklustre home form reared its ugly head yet again as Leicester suffered a 2-1 defeat to relegation-threatened Fulham in Gameweek 10.

As has often been the case at the King Power Stadium this season, the Foxes’ front-man was unable to have much influence on the game, faced with yet another home game where the opposition dropped deep throughout.

He did show some smart play when he knocked down a second-half cross for Harvey Barnes (£6.9m) to fire into the top corner but, apart from that, Vardy never got a chance to stretch his legs.

A five-point score will feel somewhat anti-climactic for over one-million Fantasy Premier League managers who captained Vardy, especially considering it was against Fulham who, up until now, have boasted one of the division’s worst defences.

But his struggles at the King Power Stadium are nothing new, as has been well documented this season. Across his four Premier League home appearances this season, Vardy has averaged just 3.3 points per game.

Such information is likely to cast doubt on Vardy’s Fantasy credentials for upcoming home meetings with Brighton (Gameweek 12) and Everton (Gameweek 13), especially if he could not even buck his home-trend against Fulham.

Thankfully for his 28.7% ownership, Gameweek 11 takes Vardy into a much more favourable scenario: a trip to Sheffield United.

80.3% of his points have come on the road this season, an average of 10.6 points per away game, while the Blades are the only Premier League team without a clean sheet in 2020/21.

BARNES DOOR

The 4.1% invested in Barnes were among the rare winners of Leicester’s defeat to Fulham as he scored the Foxes’ only goal of the game.

Finding the net, the former West Bromwich Albion loanee certainly sent a message to manager Brendan Rodgers who left him out of the starting XI initially, despite a strong performance midweek.

Neither James Maddison (£7.0m) nor Dennis Praet (£5.5m) provided much support for an isolated Vardy as Rodgers went with a 3-4-2-1 formation which lacked the width to really stretch Fulham’s deep block.

It was in the second half that the hosts were able to make some limited progress, as Barnes and Cengiz Ünder (£5.9m) came on for Praet and wing-back Luke Thomas (£4.3m) respectively, allowing for a slight improvement in the fluidity of their attack.

TAKE A LOOK

By contrast, Fulham went about Monday night’s encounter with a cut and thrust that Leicester could not replicate.

The result itself might have been a surprising one but it was a fully deserved win for the visitors, especially considering Scott Parker made the bold decision of benching key players in Aleksandar Mitrović (£5.7m) and Tom Cairney (£5.3m).

Ivan Cavaleiro (£5.3m) was handed the centre-forward role and, despite his embarrassing penalty miss last time out, was brave enough to step up for the latest Fulham spot-kick and slammed it past Kasper Schmeichel (£5.5m). That ensured the Cottagers did not become the first Premier League team to miss three penalties in a row.

“I asked him yesterday, ‘are you ready to take this penalty if we get one?’ and he looked me dead in the eye and said ‘yeah, I’m ready’. The courage, the bravery to step up there, they’re things that we need.” – Scott Parker

There was also a strong showing from Ademola Lookman (£5.0m) who has also responded well to his recent penalty woes.

Since sending a stoppage-time spot-kick into Lukasz Fabianski‘s (£5.0m) arms at West Ham, the Fulham winger has gone on to get himself a goal and assist across the last two matches, going close with some direct free-kicks too.

Matches with Manchester City (away) and Liverpool (home) over the next two Gameweeks are likely to ward off any Fantasy interest but as Fulham’s fixtures turn more positive in Gameweek 13, Lookman’s propensity to shoot could mean he finally fulfils his potential as a budget midfield option.

“He came in for a lot of stick when he did the penalty, rightly so, you need to take your medicine after that. What is going to determine, like anyone Cavaleiro – last week he slips for the penalty. I’m not on Instagram but I can only imagine what was being said, the jokes for everyone to see and Cav would have seen that. Ade’s performance tonight, earned the right to score a goal.” – Scott Parker

Leicester City XI (3-4-2-1): Schmeichel; Fuchs, Evans, Fofana; L Thomas (Ünder 46′), N Mendy (Iheanacho 70′), Tielemans, Justin; Maddison, Praet (H Barnes 46′); Vardy.

Fulham XI (5-4-1): Areola; A Robinson, Adarabioyo, Andersen, Aina, Decordova-Reid; Lookman (Bryan 90′), Zambo-Anguissa, Reed, Loftus-Cheek (Lemina 77′); Cavaleiro (Mitrović 87′).

I see many looking to get rid of zieych, why ? Leeds and everton coming up and they are not exactly watertight in defence.

Their goals are unpredictable and spread around the team.

I think it's safer to stick with their defence and to spend money elsewhere in attack.

      It's comparitive.
Many midfielders are in great form.
Ziyech seems like a creative guy and not the one who scores a lot.

He wasn't great against Spurs and people are chasing last week's de Bruyne, Grealish, Fernandes and Jota points.

Son is also falling in price despite them having Arsenal and Palace up next, both of whom are shambolic.

    Morning chaps,

Happy to finally have a decent gameweek, even if only managed to field 9 players in the end. Managed to jump 900K places, which isn't as impressive given that I was outside the 3m mark beforehand but still. Thinking of saving my FT this week which will give me 2FTs for next week in order to decide best route to get Salah back in. What do you think?

    Martinez
Chilwell - Cancelo - Lamptey (Mitchell - Ferguson)
    KDB(C) - Bruno - Son - Grealish - Bowen
    Kane - DCL (Brewster)
    1FT, £0.8itb

I know what you mean. Can only realistically get an up-to £4.8 defender for Mitchell but none stand-out at the moment and they are all likely to net a 2-pointer. Would have liked to double-up with Chilwell and James but no easy way of doing that. Not too keen on spending FTs on defenders either to be fair

Well, that was the plan yeah! KDB to Salah. Would be difficult navigating the Christmas period without a good bench, so Arteta has a good point. Just feel like getting Salah back in should be the priority.

Until expected starters and star players get their **** together we should just play:

    Leno
    Bellerin - Saliba - Gabriel - Tierney
    Willock - Elneny - Maitland-Niles
    Nelson - Nketiah - Saka

Add Balogun, Smith-Rowe and Martinelli to the squad when he's back. Veterans have to step up because these past results & performances have been simply dreadful (and I'm being generous).
    Catastrophic season!

In 7 years of playing this game I think Ollie Watkins must be the trolliest player I have ever owned. Only scores against the big teams when you don't necessarily want him to, does sweet f all against weaker opposition, has a penalty opportunity ruled out for VAR, when he gets a penalty he misses it and then has a goal ruled out for offside in the 90th minute!

Seeing FPL Twitter dawning on the template of Salah, KdB, Fernandes, Grealish, Jota is annoying.

I'm already looking to break it now. Who and how?

Sterling is a nice starting point. Son of course can still do some damage. Mahrez maybe? I really want Fernandes to be the makeweight but the man is just fantasy gold. He could well be the top points scorer at the end of the season. I knew it too before the season. I knew he was insane value and yet I stupidly bought Rashford over him and now 50 points down.

Maybe it's Salah that is expendable... If Jota can deliver similar, that Salah money can get you elite attackers which can give you a leg-up over the standard DCL - Bamford/Watkins lineups.

If you ditch Salah, you can then get like Vardy + Werner instead.

Could work but always high risk going without salah.

The best strategy is to start with one of Bruno, KDB or Salah and then buy and sell based on the easiest fixture.

      KDB for GW11
      Salah for GW12
      KDB for GW13
      Bruno for GW14
      Salah for GW15

Disagree. The swords are the forwards this year.

Kane, Aguero, Vardy, Werner. These are the guys that if you time a run of good fixtures for them correctly can rocket you up the ranks.

Aguero? Would you say he is reliable even when fit?

Yes. But he needs to be fit and starting games. When he does, he has the highest rate of goals/90 of any player in the game.

Took me a while to get around to bringing Bruno in, but I am glad I did this week. Think he is firmly set in my team now and unlikely to go anywhere for the time being. That means that for most people it is a choice between Salah or KDB. Even though I have KDB at the moment, I am strongly considering KDB to Salah for GW12. This leaves me with

Salah - Bruno - Son - Grealish - Bowen* (who is arguably better as Jota, instead). Very template-y midfield, but it allows for a premium attacker still.

        That's not a template mid.

The template mid is the one I posted. Everyone is moving towards that and with good reason.

Difference of 1 player? Son, instead of KDB. Still feels pretty template to me. Bowen is better as Jota as I said, so the difference between the one you posted and the one I suggested is 1 player.

With a defence of Chilwell James Lamptey and attack of DCL and Bamford and keeper of Mendy. But no subs other than Kilman

Actually no I'll be 0.1 off mendy. So keeper of mendy and coufal/kwp/taylor rotation instead of lamptey

would break the template in other areas, players like wilson are low-owned and he got me a nice 12 points this week, there's a few defenders that can work as well, - there's plenty of players that don't own more than a couple of those mids you mention so having all of them can be a differential in itself

I think the solution is to lose one of the super heavyweights and invest in premium forwards. I really hope Aguero becomes a thing soon. He can be the big differential we need.

Can't decide on getting Salah or Jota. Whitch transfers do you prefer?
    1FT, 1m ITB.

    Martinez
    Zouma, Dias, Taylor
    KDB, Bruno, Grealish, Son
    Kane, DCL, Bamford
    (Steer - Mitchell, Bissouma, Ayling)

    A) Kane, Bissouma, Taylor -> Brewster, Salah, Douglas (-8) or next week for -4
    B) Kane Bissouma, Son -> Brewster, Salah, Jota (-8) or next week -4
    C) Bissouma, Bamford -> Jota, Brewster (-4) or for free next week (this means no Salah)

    kane + soucek > KDB + Bamford?

don't really want to lose kane but with spurs current fixture run vs city's fixtures KDB seems the better premium option?

Salah playing closer to goal, most times as striker? Also penalties. In the long run that should be better bet.
