Captain Sensible

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 11?

Fantasy Premier League managers arguably have more choice for the Gameweek 11 captaincy than first thought.

With the deadline moved to Saturday morning following the postponement of Newcastle’s trip to Aston Villa, Fantasy managers have been gifted an extra day to dwell on the destination of their next armband.

We should use that time wisely, testing Manchester City’s meeting with Fulham against the other appealing fixtures this weekend, comparing underlying statistics for players and team defences alike.

As this article uses extensive data from the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area, only those with a valid subscription can access it in full.

Captain Poll

For the first time in several weeks, we have a runaway captain poll winner again. It is Kevin De Bruyne (£11.7m) this time as he gathered over 47% of votes ahead of an appealing home fixture against relegation-threatened Fulham at the Etihad Stadium.

That number might even increase closer to the deadline as anyone considering Jack Grealish (£7.7m) or Callum Wilson (£6.5m) will almost certainly look elsewhere for a solid captain choice.

Following yet another away from home haul, Bruno Fernandes (£10.9m) sits second in the poll, although he still only managed to get the support of 9.0%. The Portuguese international and his team will visit a West Ham United that has been a little fortunate not to concede more heavily in recent weeks.

The remaining three picks in the top five list (if we exclude Grealish for now) are Jamie Vardy (£10.3m | 6.9%), Mohamed Salah (£12.2m | 5.3%) and Riyad Mahrez (£8.3m, 5.2%).

Would you do this to fund KDB?

    Son & DCL > KDB & Adams (or a 6.1m)

Probably would be tempted to the moves then but not for a hit, maybe with FT's.
Especially if you would captain KDB

Ignore the fact that Martinez has a blank this week and DGW's later.
As a set and forget option, do you think Mendy is worth 0.3 more than Martinez? He is for me personally because of the amount of CS Chelsea will get...

I'd personally want to have Reece/Chilly just since they're so attacking. In terms of price, I'd pick Reece over Mendy

my thoughts to currently, as mendy could still outscore him without a dgw, or two, suppose some may just trans martinez in for dgw,s, i have martinez and steer!

Goalkeepers from the top teams are historically rarely worth it. Also takes up a chelsea spot

We say that because they are usually expensive though when Mendy rises to 5.5 or something then I get it but getting him at 5.1 I thought he's great value... 0.3 more than Martinez only!

Well true, still only 0.6 more.
Even 5 for a top team's keeper is usually a bargain, he should have been 5.5

I think also because lesser teams face a lot more shots. Most you can hope for from the top guys is 6 points

good point, some have double chel def with ziyech, werner etc, spose it depends if you want more than one chelsea attack which is also a good option, ziyech, havertz, tammy werner etc

I went Mendy to afford bigger hitters up top. Don’t get me wrong Chillwel and Reece are solid options, I just feel there is still value to grab from a cheaper starting defense

Mendy is a nice option, but yea a waste of a Chelsea spot it feels like. I'd get Fabianski if you are willing to pay 5mil for a keeper

    Hello FPL fam,

Really need some of your thoughts and advice. What would you do with this lot?

    McCarthy
    Robertson, Digne*, Coufal, Justin, Mitchell
    Salah, Ziyech, Grealish, Hames
    Werner, Kane, Watkins

    Got 2FT and 0.1ITB

Really bummed about the Villa game being postponed. I currently have 9 players who'll start, no Bruno or City cover. What would you do here?

Hames->Bruno and downgrade to afford it. Not sure what price you will sell Hames at, but you could downgrade Werner or Kane or Robertson (to Chilwell maybe?) or, ideally, Digne if that raises enough money? If you're prepared to downgrade Werner or Kane you can probably stretch to KDB instead. You could lose Ziyech instead of Hames, but I think the Everton player is more expendable?

I've currently got Reed, Mitchell and Digne on the bench. I can transfer/downgrade Digne to get my 10th player for the week.

Do you reckon I stick with Ziyech/Hames this week or make a stretch for KDB/Bruno?

    - captain jota next week

Help her please guys - 3.5 in the bank???

    Martinez*
    Chilwell / Robertson / KWP / C Taylor
    Fernandes / Jota / Son
    Bamford / Kane / Wilson*

    Steer / Grealish* / Mitchell* / Stephens*

Pre Newcastle Covid the plan was Son to KDB but can't lose Son now surely....

The only moves i can see are:
    - Wilson to Jesus which seems the simple move
    - Grealish to KDB and Wilson to Welbeck (-4) - not sure if the hit is worth it and might be with Grealish for a while then

Resigned to playing without a keeper....

Could do what I've done and upgrade Steer to someone like Meslier/Mccarthy, then you have a playing keeper this week and also enables you to double up on Villa if you wanted to on one of their DGW's!

Decided that as Foden will be leaving my team next week and I've fought other fires this week, I'll give him a start and hope Pep follows my lead.
If he starts, great. If he comes on for 20, like last week, he's still capable of a return. If he gets zero minutes, Klich comes on for a solid point or two.

I highly doubt they will put it in this GW now they have marked Villa and Newcastle players as blanking and people have started removing. Were the game to move to next week I think they would just push forward the GW12 deadline and make it a DGW. My guesswork entirely though.

Prob Bruno from those options, unless Pep says something that suggests Sterling will start, which I admit is unlikely.

Starts, but it's just guesswork and I could be completely wrong.

Absolutely, it’s my birthday tomorrow so a Sterling start and haul would be amazing 🙂

The only reason I see its 22mil is when you click to go to a comment, if your internet is a little slow you can see it saying "loading comment 22236789" or whatever at the bottom left.

I was playing back then but on an off, and certainly not seriously.

    Best use of FT here?

    A. Martinez > McCarthy
    B. Masuaku > Reece James
    C. Roll FT and use it for Salah next GW

    1FT 1.2 ITB
    Martinez
    Robertson Chilwell Dallas Masuaku (Mitchell)
    KDB(C) Fernandes Ziyech (Grealish Stephens)
    Vardy DCL Bamford

Decided to go FH, thoughts on the team not on the wastage of the chip:

    Johnstone
    Chilwell James Keane
    KDB(c) Mahrez Bruno Jota
    Jesus Werner DCL

    Button N.Williams Phillips Burke

I'd be tempted by van Aanholt or Reguilon (if fit) over Keane. Everton have been conceding for fun in recent weeks. Rest looks good.

I had PVA in my original thoughts but wanted to fully back Johnstone and not sure I can quite scrabble together the 0.3 on Keane without downgrading someone like Jota.

      I like it.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Mahrez benched and Jota limited minutes but worth the risk having them.
I like Vardy for this week if you can get him in

Is there a way you can go Vardy over Werner?
Maybe only one Chelsea defender against an attacking Leeds.

I really like Werner at the minute and can see a haul imminent. Chelsea double up is a risk but think if Giroud starts James could be right in the points.

Fair, I think Vardy scores more away to Sheffield United, but he is more and requires a sacrifice elsewhere so fair enough

Is Son + DCL to KDB + Welbeck total madness?
Could also do Bamford instead of Welbeck.

Definitely Bamford instead of Welbeck. I say do it. Is it for free or for a hit?

Its for a hit. Feeling anxious not having KDB in the team and wouldnt feel terrible letting DCL go this week with fixtures due to swing against him.

I want to keep Grealish and Watkins, but to field an 11 this week I'm dependent on Mitchell or Stephens playing.
Is it worth it to do Stephens to Bissouma for free? Dyche was pretty vague in his presser, so not confident Stephens will start..

do u even want to keep Watkins? I know they have good fixtures, but still. Could get Adams or something

Yeah I still like the look of him. If I were to transfer him out, it would have to be for either Wilson or Bamford, and Bamford is really not an option for me this week.

Thoughts on this move for a -4?

    1) Kane>Abraham
    Ziyech>De Bruyne (C)

    Currently have Bruno captain

    2) Or Kane>Vardy for free

I like 1 - did similar to get that sweet KDB C 4pts

  29. Klaren

    A) Watkins, Jimenez, Cancelo, Sterling >>> Jesus, Werner, Mahrez, max 4.7 defender (-8)
    B) Grealish, Jimenez, Cancelo >>> Jesus, Mahrez, Neco Williams (-4)
    C) Watkins, Jimenez >>> Welbeck, Jesus

    Any thoughts between these options?
On C, I'd have to rely on both Burke and Sterling to play to have 10 playing.

What would you do with this team going forward with only 0.1m itb. Trying to think of future strategy

    Martinez
Chilwell James Lamptey -- Mitchell Lewis
Son Bruno KDB Salah -- Burke
    DCL Bamford Watkins

You need to make sure that you have a strong bench for the busy Christmas period especially as I think that we will have more covid cases and possibly more cancellations at shortish notice.
Your team is very strong with big hitters in midfield but weakish bench with Mitchell, Lewis and burke.
You may have to drop one of your 4 midfielders to do this but obviously virtually nothing ITB is a hinderance. One way would be to alternate 2 big hitters on a fixtures basis but this would take up your FT each week.
I looked at this a few weeks ago and left myself with nearly 4m ITB but expected it to cost me a few points each gameweek by not maximising my team value but (rather luckily) my rank has improved. I planned to alternate Salah and KDB from wf10 to gw27 and I will stick with that baring injuries.
Good luck whatever you decide to do but remember it's about "value" for your selections, you cant have all the big hitters.
