Scoutcast Episode 357 – Double and Blank Gameweek planning

Joe is joined by FPL Family’s Sam and Ted Talks FPL’s Ted to look ahead to Gameweek 14 and the impending Blank and Double Gameweek fixtures.

Fantasy Premier League managers already have plenty to consider with fixtures arriving thick and fast at this busy festive period in the season.

And now they have Blank and Double Gameweeks to ponder, after the Premier League announced details of a limited set of fixtures in Gameweek 18 and a bumper crop of extra games in Gameweek 19.

How FPL managers tackle this tricky period in the season largely depends on their current set-up and chip availability.

Joe, Sam and Ted look in detail at the different strategies to consider as well as the best players to target.

Ted is building up a reputation for presenting smart FPL-related graphics across social media. We grabbed the opportunity to find out more about his latest images, which look at the best chance creators and most obliging defences.

In all the excitement over the Double Gameweek, our trio present a timely reminder of the sides with one fixture in Gameweek 19 that cannot be ignored, most notably Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

Elsewhere, Sam takes her turn to pick a differential, there are festive fixtures to frisk, and captaincy and transfer plans to reveal.

The episode was streamed live on Thursday night during Manchester United’s trip to relegation candidates Sheffield United. With Red Devils star Bruno Fernandes (£11.0m) captained by Sam and Joe, viewers get to see their live reaction to the midfielder’s pivotal performance during an already low-scoring Gameweek 13 for many.

Is KDB really that good of a pick now? Look at his total points, and look at the players above him. The likes of Bowen, Neto, Zaha, Grealish Ward-Prowse, to mention a few, is a head of him. Son for instance has almost double his points, for over 2 million less.
City not really scoring plenty of goals like they used to either, actually they've scored 1 goal or less in 7 matches. Only 1 against Sheffield, 1 against West Brom, and 2 against Fulham.

The only goals he scored has aslo come from the penalty spot. Are people looking at previous seasons, and expecting City to do what they used to, smash teams? Because it seems like they don't do that anymore. Or have KDB just been unlucky not to score more points, and the points will come?

Not necessarily ‘well’ but a goal and some baps, or an assist and some baps, before a leaky newcastle defence and he could haul there, remember the toon conceded 5@ leeds x

He has been extremely unlucky these past 3/4 gameweeks not to return more than he did. The last game for example he could have easily had 2 assists at the end and came very close to scoring that free kick. He’s due a monster score soon I reckon

El Ghazi was exreemly unlucky yesterday when he didnt get a haul. Due a monster score as well?

Well - firstly I would say total points can be misleading when compared with points per minute played, given KDB more or less missed two full gameweeks. He's ahead of Bowen, Neto, JWP on points per minute, but behind Zaha and Grealish.

There are other factors too, current points don't necessarily give you much of a steer on future potential either. Premier League stats show KDB has created the most big chances in the league this season. He's missed 4 'Big' chances, Sterling has missed 5, some of which could have been KDB assists, I haven't dug into that. He's hit the woodwork 3 times, is 4th on the overall shots table, he's in the top bracket of everything, basically, despite missing two games.

In short - it looks like bad luck. I'd guarentee you he outperforms all those you've listed (except maybe Son). Will he outperform them all on points per million paid for him though, can't guarentee that, but I suspect so.

Fair enough. He didnt miss two tho, he missed one, and played 22 in the other. Salah also missed a gameweek, he's on 102 points. Zaha has missed 2, Mane has missed one, Vardy has missed one, all with better points tally.

Yes previous points doesn't necessarily predict future points, but after 13 game weeks it should give you a decent indicator.

Manchester City are nowhere near the team they were over the past few seasons and the proof is in their results so far....defeats to Leicester and Spurs, draws against Leeds and Westbrom! You can have all the possession in the world but without an end product you simply won't win matches. Personally I think not having Dilva and Aguero in their team is costing them dearly this season and who's to say that this trend won't continue going forward. Jesus is not a 20 goal a season striker, Sterling is too inconsistent and you can have the best midfielder in the world in KDB feeding them the ball, but if they can't put the ball in the net then he's not going to clock up all the assists and bps we've seen him get in previous fpl seasons.

    GTG?

    Martinez
    Cancelo Chilwell Robo
    Salah Bruno KDB Bowen
    Watkins Dcl Bamford

    Ryan Coufal Anguissa Mitchell

Next week I need to start thinking of a way to get Son in. By possibly downgrading Robo and Cancelo

FH18 and this is the team I will have GW19 with no hits.

    McCarthy*
    Robertson*, Chillwell* ,Dallas* ,Coufal*
    Son,Bruno*,Salah* (TC), Bowen*
    Bamford*, Ings*

    Bench: Forster, DCL, Bissouma, Mitchell

*= DGW players (10+Son vs Sheffield)

Bench not strong enough for BB, so will TC Salah/Bruno and use BB with the 2nd WC.

    How does it sound?

i think a lot of people are stuck in tiers (topical). With big hitters returning so regularly it is hard to make any big moves as everyone's captain does ok (captaincy regularly defines a good and bad game week).

I've gone from 1.4m to 400k in four weeks. For me it's been patience. I've stuck with the players I think will do well. Everyone was ripping up their teams to get Vardy against Fulham, or Bruno against Sheffield, but I liked how my team looked and stuck with it.

    folks I need help.
let's say I won't use any chips for BGW18/DGW19. just gonna use free transfer (plus some hits if needed) to sort my team out for DGW19, will sacrifice BGW18 a little bit, but still gonna try to field as many players as possible.

so, any recommendations for players that are:
    1. Good for DGW19, OR
    2. worthy to hold for both BGW18 and DGW19
players that also have a good value(fixture or form) from now until gw18/19 will be considered more. you know, to maintain a good amount of point acquire.

    my team right now:
    Martinez/4.0
    Chilwell/lamptey/bednarek/masuaku/4.0
    Salah/KDB/Bruno/Grealish/ASM
    DCL/Bamford/Watkins
