My final FPL transfer decisions ahead of Gameweek 16 Wildcard

After an eventful Gameweek 14, in which I almost committed the deadly sin of selling Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), I couldn’t be happier with the end result: a total of 93 points and an overall rank well inside the Top 20K for the first time since Gameweek 10.

Considering the rumours from several sources saying Salah was going to be rested at Selhurst Park, I almost pulled the trigger and sold him for Kevin De Bruyne (£11.8m) on Saturday morning. However, since I wasn’t 100% convinced by the rumours, I decided to hold fire and hope for a cameo from the Liverpool midfielder at the very least. After all, it would be heartbreaking to sell him ahead of such a nice fixture just to find out the rumours weren’t true.

However, the rumours were very true and he was indeed benched. But Salah doesn’t need many minutes to wreak havoc and after his 16-pointer, I was relieved to have decided to save my transfer. In addition, Ruben Dias (£5.7m), Andrew Robertson (£7.3m), Jack Grealish (£7.8m) and my captain Bruno Fernandes (£11.0m) all delivered nine points or more, which felt great after three red arrows in a row.

Wood's big chances numbers in recent matches stand out to me. I've had Adams all season and am considering holding but I don't find the fixtures so appealing. Kane over Vardy is one I'm partial to Kane in because of those two plum fixtures in 16 and 17 but I am put off by the SGW in 19. Vardy, Werner, and Martial are all in consideration for me. Martial in for Kane means I could upgrade Balbuena to TAA

Nice... also tempted by martial tbf but think cavani could end up playing a game over him. I’ve owned Werner until this week and trust me don’t go there. I was on wood over adams but his dgw fixtures aren’t great... if only Antonio was fit

I’m thinking about using TC on Salah in DWG19.

And a potential FH in GW18.

If you aren't going to BB in 19 then you haven't got to make a lot of changes with your WC. You could even look to make some changes that give you a couple of extra players for 18 and save that FH for later in the season.

Merry Christmas all! I asked a day or two ago about the relationship between DGW26 and BGW29 - won’t the DGW29 teams then blank in BGW29? As I their fixtures are moving from 29 to 26? Feels significant if you’re planning to BB in 26.

Oh so it’s not as simple as this teams with a double 26 will have a blank 29? What I’m fearing is if you prepare to bench boost 26 with something like 15 double players you may end up with 15 players blanking in 29.

Well you likely have teams like Leeds who may be out of the cup and play Leeds which you'd take in gw26 even if sgw and then have a game in 29. Much like this set with Spurs having shu in 19 worthy of investment even though a sgw.

Ah so yes. It would make bench boost 26 more tricky? You would need to hold some single GW players to ensure you had a team for 29? I’m still figuring it all out.

Basically yes although the other unscheduled dgw hanging around could also go in either slot depend who is/isn't still in the FA Cup by then.

Feels risky to plan for a bench boost 26 though no? Unless you hold the free hit chip to use in 29 of course.

Those who have FH chip will ofc be better off but it comes down to who makes the FA Cup quarters really.

I think enough look to be using FH that whilst having it would be advantageous not having it won't hurt much and I'd rather bank the points now. Covid being what it is who knows what will actually happen by then!

          Personally I'm going FH19

The blanks in GW29 arise because of clashes with FA Cup QF fixtures. We’ll know the QF line up before GW24, which is sufficient notice for the blanks to be rescheduled in DGW26.The rationale for doing this that there are limited options options to catch up later, but it does mean that anyone setting up a GW26 BB with a WC in GW25, probably also needs a FH to navigate BGW29.

Great this is what I was thinking and tbh seems to have been missed by some? With this in mind, I’m more inclined to BB in GW19 and use the second wildcard to set up for the DGW26/BGW29 in a balanced manner. Unless we’re totally wrong about the DGW26 teams blanking in 29 of course!

Also add in the fact that from GW19 -> GW26 you'll have some FT's.
You might be able to transfer your way to a great BB squad, and then WC in GW27 or GW28 before the BGW? 🙂

Answering both you and Lord. here.

No ofc we don't know for sure, but to be honest it is fairly easy to predict which matches in GW29 that will be affected by the QF round. Looking into this you can pretty much build a strong BB squad WITH premium assets also.

Cheers. I’ll certainly look at how close I can get to doing this. Having the WC after the DGW to set up easier for the blank would be good.

Right now I’m certainly more concerned by planning when to BB, 19 or 26.

Just gonna line it up for you bit by bit 😉

            First up:

            GW29 fixture Spurs - Southampton:
If Southampton beats Shrewsbury and then Huddersfield/Plymouth this fixture is off.
If Spurs beats Marine and then Derby/Chorley this fixture is off.

Highly likely one or the other would happen right?
In GW26 Spurs would have Burnley (H) and Southampton (H) (tasty)
In GW26 Southampton would have Everton (a) and Spurs (a) (still dgw)

If Spurs vs. Southampton is off due to either one making it to the QF in FA and if they are to be reschedules in GW26 then yes? 🙂

Cheers. I think you’ve helped convince me that BB26 feels difficult without holding the FH chip fo 29, or prepare well in advance and WC after the DGW as you suggested.

              • 7 Years

              Next up:

              GW29 fixture Crystal Palace - Man U
If Crystal Palce beats Wolves and then Stockport/West Ham the fixture is off
If Man U beats Watford and then Oldham/Bournemouth this fixture is off

Not as likely, but still pretty likely 😉

In GW26 Man U with play Crystal Palace (a) and Chelsea (a) (Bruno still looks good here)
In GW26 Crystal Palace would play Man U (H) and Fulham (H) (Zaha?)

But when I look at the 'tournament tree' (don't know the english word sorry), it looks like we already know, that the winner will face whoever wins in the match between Stockport and West Ham?

All the PL clubs gets 'byes' while the lower tier teams faces eachother early on, but it also looks like the PL clubs are placed into this 'tournament tree'. Would explain why clubs like City and United don't face each other until the SFs.

Otherwise they could potentially draw each other in the next round roght? Never ever happens though?

No, from Round 3 any team can play anyone, including City and United. Any tournament tree is a bit false until each draw is made!

Basically you won't know the likely DGW / blank teams until the Round 5 draw is made, then you can make some guesses (e.g. if Liverpool have an easy fixture in Round 5)

Thought the draw was made already and that is how the 'best' clubs never faces each other until the QF/SF 😉

                Next up:
West Brom vs. Everton in GW29 is off if:
Everton beats Rotherham and the Stevenage/Swansea
                Or
West Brom beats Blackpool and then Coventry/Norwich

                Pretty likely 😉

Would result in a DGW 26:
West Brom would play Everton (H) and Brighton (H)
Everton would play West Brom (a) and Southampton (H)

But then you’re building a squad based on PL clubs that were knocked out of the Cup early, thereby ruling out a lot of premium assets.

To an extent yes + educated guesses. Villa or Pool get knocked out 8th Jan though

        That’s the crazier part.
I’m leaning towards Wood & TAA for DCL & Chilwell. The thing is that it helps me get to my preferred gw19 BB team!

Think I've decided I'm gonna FH 18 and use all my transfers to load up on 19 playersfor the double. Next week am thinking Targett and Grealish to TAA/Robbo and Rafhinha. That as far ahead as I've planned

    Martinez
    TAA,Dias,Coufal
    Salah(c),KDB, Fernandes, Grealish
    DCL, Bamford, Watkins

    Johnstone, Soucek,Dallas,Ferguson

    Plan
    Wk 16 KDB,Watkins >> Raphina,Kane
    Wk 17. DCL >> Martial
    Wk 18. FH
WK 19 Ferguson , any defender under 5.0 that has a double.
Kane > Vardy maybe for -4
Use BB chip with 12 dgwers and Martinez,Dias and Grealish.

That's sound. I would do basically the same thing I think. Have you considered just buying Vardy over Kane in 16?

That will give you more DGW guys.

Unless you need Kane for captain in 16 or 17, I'd probably just go straight for Vardy.

Yeh I could do Vardy. Would save 4 points too.
No Spurs for Fulham,Leeds is scary though.
