Vardy and van Aanholt suffer from festive rotation as Palace host Leicester

Festive rotation has struck Fantasy Premier League managers as early as the first match of Gameweek 16 as Crystal Palace host Leicester City.

Jamie Vardy (£10.1m) is the biggest name to fall foul of the busy schedule, named on the bench with Kelechi Iheanacho (£5.6m) handed his usual centre-forward role.

The striker, who sits behind only Harry Kane (£11.0m) for most points among forwards this season (106), is joined among the Leicester substitutes by Youri Tielemans (£6.4m) and Çaglar Söyüncü (£5.3m) returning from injury.

However, Vardy is not the only Foxes asset to miss out on Gameweek 16, James Maddison (£7.2m), Wesley Fofana (£5.0m) and Timothy Castagne (£5.7m) all missing out on the matchday squad entirely.

The central midfielder is managing an ongoing knee issue so sits out for precautionary reasons, while Fofana is in a similar position for a knock.

As a result, Harvey Barnes (£6.7m) is the most dangerous Fantasy asset to earn a start at Selhurst Park, involved in five goals this season.

James Justin‘s (£5.0m) impressive powers of recovery earn him yet another start, having already played every minute this season.

Crystal Palace have also undergone necessary Christmas rotation with Tyrick Mitchell (£3.9m) coming in for his first start since Gameweek 6, pushing Patrick van Aanholt (£5.4m) back to the bench.

The left-back is joined there by Eberechi Eze (£5.8m) while Jairo Riedewald (£4.4m) comes in for his first start since Gameweek 9.

Line-ups

Crystal Palace XI: Guaita; Mitchell, Tomkins, Kouyaté, Clyne; Schlupp, Riedewald, Milivojevic, A Townsend; Zaha, Benteke.

Leicester City XI: Schmeichel; Thomas, Evans, Amartey, Justin; N Mendy, Choudhury; H Barnes, Praet, Pérez; Iheanacho.

If this gets worse, Fpl won’t survive this. Impossible to plan, use chips, transfers etc.

Unfair disadvantages to teams, ruining the competitive nature of the game.

It is unfair yeah. Now everyone will just get 3 City in a few weeks when earlier today wouldn’t even consider that idea.

          How is it unfair though?

          Unlucky sure? Unfair, hell no.

I wildcarded the weekend that the premierleague was cancelled last year. Was that unfair? No. Was the free wildcards for everyone unfair? Potentially.

One game cancelled unfair? Give it a rest

Get a bench, don't double or triple. It's a game, any manager can adapt and make the best of it. It's pretty OTT watching managers get really petulant and hurt because the game isn't working the way they think it should. There's an opportunity to do well for managers who adapt

I chose not to actively play this season because it was likely (though not guaranteed) to end with situations like this. Didn't need the stress, which sounds contrite but I know how ridiculous it can be when your weekend is 'ruined' by a late goal in a game with two teams that don't concern you personally at all.

Still entered a team, but picked 15 players from 15 different sides and have left it well alone.

The lack of updates/news right up until 'Project Restart' was probably the most difficult part of FPL last year, I was fortunate to still have my second wildcard but all the conjecture and rumour didn't help when you're chasing cash leagues.

Someone tell me why Palace had to play their games without Zaha but teams like Newcastle and City are rewarded for terrible measures to prevent spread? Pathetic from PL. They should punish the teams that have mass outbreaks by awarding 3-0 win to the other team and just get on with it.

    1. Pukki Party
      • 6 Years

Already mentioned above and all over, but for the sake of those arriving late Manchester City Vs Everton has been postponed following an outbreak at City.

No further information regarding when it will be rescheduled or if it will impact other games has been provided.

The Athletic report that "a number" of positive tests were reported, in addition to 4 positive tests reported on Christmas that included Walker and Jesus.

Those who put all their eggs in one basket will be punished the most here; double or treble ups from any given team resulting in possibly 3-5 missing if just one game is postponed, and not having playing bench members - this season is what FPL benches exist for after all.
Trebling up for City assets in advance of their two games in hand will consequently be a risky strategy too.
