Leicester back to full strength as Vardy and co return for Newcastle clash

With Burnley v Fulham postponed yesterday, the first Premier League fixture of the day sees Newcastle United entertain Leicester City at St James’ Park.

Kick-off on Tyneside is at 14:15 GMT.

After handing breathers to many of his first-team regulars in the 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace last Monday, Brendan Rodgers reverts to a full-strength side this afternoon.

There are seven changes in all, with Kasper Schmeichel (£5.5m), James Justin (£5.0m), Jonny Evans (£5.5m) and Harvey Barnes (£6.8m) the only players to keep their places.

Among the returnees are James Maddison (£7.1m) and Wesley Fofana (£5.0m), who have recovered from minor knee injuries, and Jamie Vardy (£10.2m), the most-owned player on show in today’s game.

Timothy Castagne (£5.7m), Youri Tielemans (£6.4m), Marc Albrighton (£5.3m) and Wilfred Ndidi (£4.8m) are also recalled.

Rodgers’ opposite number, Steve Bruce, has made two changes for the Foxes’ visit.

One of them is enforced as Sean Longstaff (£4.7m) comes into midfield in place of Isaac Hayden (£4.7m), who serves a one-match ban after collecting five yellow cards.

Miguel Almiron (£5.6m) replaces Jacob Murphy (£4.9m) on the wing in the Magpies’ other alteration from their goalless draw with Liverpool.

Fantasy interest in the hosts mainly centres around Callum Wilson (£6.5m), who is the only Newcastle player owned by more than 3% of managers.

Along with Wilson and Vardy, Leicester full-back Justin is the only other player on show with a double-digit ownership.

The versatile youngster is now FPL’s most-owned defender, sitting in just over 25% of squads.

Rodgers’ troops have generally been better on the road this season, with 19 of their 29 points arriving in away fixtures.

Four of Vardy’s five double-digit hauls, indeed, have come outside of Leicester.

Newcastle United XI: Darlow, Yedlin, Fernandez, Schar, Clark, Ritchie, S Longstaff, M Longstaff, Almiron, Joelinton, Wilson.

Leicester City XI: Schmeichel, Justin, Fofana, Evans, Castagne, Ndidi, Tielemans, Albrighton, Maddison, Barnes, Vardy.

What do you think of Son > KDB for both 18 and 19 for free? Possibly worth it if sticking the (c) on KDB. I have 7 playing 18 and don't plan to FH.

Thinking I'll monitor KDBs minutes on the lead up to it as City will surely be heavily rotated.

Why? Don’t people realise Spurs can’t break down teams like Sheffield who park the bus? It was obvious the game against Leeds would suit them because they can sit and counter. Sheffield is a completely different game

They’ve only conceded 5 in their last 4. Not as bad as people make out. Just the fact they can’t score

              • 3 Years
              3 years, 2 months ago

They've also conceded 8 in their last 5, which is certainly bad. They play a high line for some inane reason, Rashford exploited it, Son probably will too with Kane supplying him

                • 6 Years
                3 years, 2 months ago

Tbf they did play a high line against Soton and Utd but they seem to have played deeper after both those games. Wilder isn’t going to go to Spurs and press them. That would be ridiculous

I can't say I have your faith in Wilder's competence, with Sheff Utd sitting on 1 point this season. I'll probably chose the DGW boys over Son and Kane, but I do think that the fixture is very good for them

He has the double digit scores this season to prove that this isn’t true. West Ham for instance played 5-4-1 and Kane got 16.

Repost due to lack of respons

Would you take an 8 point hit to give you a team for the BGW as follows

    Wan Bissaka Stones Dias
    KDB Bruno Son
    Watkins Kane
    (8 players in total)

To put this into context, I will be making these moves

Taylor, Balbuena, DCL => AWB, Stones, Watkins (players that I want longer term)

    Hokey Cokey Salah and KDB

How is this for my BGW team? Do you think I need to use my free hit or will this be fine? And do I need KDB?

    Martinez
    Cancelo / Dias / Dier
    Son / Fernandes
    Kane / DCL

Bench: Foster, Raphina, Bamford, Coufal, Salah

Or is anything worth a hit?

Well Bruce gets a lot of flak but seriously he hasn't been awful. You also need to look at the resources he got.

        I watch every Newcastle game.
He's not "been awful", in that results mean he absolutely shouldn't be at risk of his job, but he has been insanely fortunate.
There is absolutely no gameplan, there's no evidence of training or tactical nouce. No player has progressed, many have gone backwards dramatically. He's had FAR more resources than Rafa ever did, not just numerically but also in choice of player type. Rafa was forced into loans for rejects from other clubs, while repeatedly having his best players sold from under him. Bruce has been given large quantities of money to spend.
His days are numbered, as it's gash football saved by miraculous luck (we beat Spurs without a shot on target at the start of the season, and it's been more of the same since).

More like starting in a Red Bull or Ferrari cos Benitez was also conservative with his tactics.

Benitez had far less to work with than Bruce has.
