Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope: Which FPL players are nearing a one-match ban?

Those who keep an eye on the Suspension Tightrope widget on our homepage will be aware that the yellow cards are steadily racking up for dozens of Premier League players.

Any Fantasy asset who collects five cautions in the English top flight before their team has completed 19 fixtures will serve a one-match ban in the same competition.

Beyond that cut-off point, the threshold moves up from five to ten bookings.

Those Fantasy Premier League assets already sitting on three and especially four cautions still have a little way to go before they are in the clear, then.

After a frenetic festive period, the respite provided by the FA Cup third round seems like a good time to take stock of the disciplinary situation around the top flight.

ON FOUR YELLOW CARDS

There are a grand total of 19 Premier League players teetering on the brink of a one-match ban.

Among them is Jack Grealish (£7.7m), who has been sat on four bookings since Gameweek 15.

Featuring in more than one in three Fantasy Premier League squads, Grealish is by far the most-owned player who has four yellow cards to his name.

A booking in Gameweek 18 would mean that Grealish would miss the first of Aston Villa’s two Gameweek 19 fixtures.

And even if the Villa talisman avoids that fate, a caution in the match against Everton would see him suspended for the second instalment of that Gameweek 19 double-header.

Teammates Matt Targett (£4.6m) and John McGinn (£5.5m) are, of course, in exactly the same situation.

Kyle Walker-Peters (£4.8m), Mateusz Klich (£5.5m) and Harry Maguire (£5.4m) are among the other players who boast an FPL ownership in excess of 4% who also sit on four bookings.

That trio of assets also enjoy two fixtures in Double Gameweek 19.

THE FULL LIST

ON THREE YELLOW CARDS

Of less concern, at least at this stage, are the players sitting on three bookings.

James Justin (£5.0m), Wilfried Zaha (£7.4m), Stuart Dallas (£4.8m) and Kieran Tierney (£5.4m), whose teams have already fulfilled 17 league fixtures, would have to pick up two bookings in their next two games in order to be handed a one-match ban.

Popular FPL buys Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.8m), Bruno Fernandes (£11.3m) and Joao Cancelo (£5.7m) are also among the 33-strong group of players who are a couple of cautions away from a suspension.

For Fernandes and Cancelo, a booking in Gameweek 18 would leave them precariously on four yellow cards heading into the Gameweek 19 double-header.

THE FULL LIST

CURRENTLY SUSPENDED/ALREADY SERVED A BAN

The four players who picked up their fifth bookings of the season at the weekend included Yves Bissouma (£4.5m), who will miss Brighton and Hove Albion’s trip to Manchester City in Blank Gameweek 18.

The other three, N’Golo Kante (£4.9m), Kalvin Phillips (£4.9m) and Conor Gallagher (£5.5m), will miss the first fixture in their respective teams’ Gameweek 19 double-header.

Another five FPL assets have already served one-match bans for yellow card accumulation.

Hector Bellerin (£5.1m) is among them and is already well on his way to ten bookings – more on which below.

THE FULL LIST

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

As we mentioned in the introduction, the yellow card threshold is raised to ten after 19 league fixtures.

In most seasons, that would ordinarily mean after the completion of Gameweek 19 – but this is no ordinary campaign.

Aston Villa, Burnley, Manchester City and Fulham are two games behind where they would usually be at this stage, with Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Newcastle United one match in arrears.

Barring any further postponements and rearrangements, the ’19th fixture’ cut-off points for all 20 Premier League clubs are as follows:

ClubPlayers are no longer at risk of a one-match ban for yellow card accumulation after the completion of…
ArsenalGW19
Aston VillaGW20
BrightonGW19
BurnleyGW20
ChelseaGW19
Crystal PalaceGW19
EvertonGW20
FulhamGW21
LeedsGW19
LeicesterGW19
LiverpoolGW19
Man CityGW20
Man UtdGW19
NewcastleGW20
Sheff UtdGW19
SouthamptonGW19
SpursGW20
West BromGW19
West HamGW19
WolvesGW19

The threshold for ten yellow cards is after 32 league matches, which will be mid-April at the earliest.

Players collecting ten bookings before that point will serve a two-game ban.

Punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

Keep your eyes peeled on our Suspension Tightrope widget over the coming weeks and months, as we’ll be updating that after every Gameweek to keep you informed on the latest disciplinary developments.

So I had always planned on FH this game week, while building towards a BB GW19. However, I am now thinking of doing the following, any thoughts appreciated,
    GW18
Salah & Robbo > KDB & Shaw to field:

    Martinez
    Shaw Dias Cancelo
    Greilish Son KDB Bruno
    Brewster DCL

    GW19
    A) Brewster & DCL > Vardy & Watkins
    B) Brewster & DCL > Ings & Bamford

    Play BB

Going up a level, I'd be curious to know who is selecting managers at Southampton because they clearly know what they are doing (with the exception of Claude Puel). A prime example of a very well run club.

    Martinez
    Cancelo, Dias, Dier
    KDB, Fernandes, Grealish
    DCL

(Dallas, Coufal, Salah, Soucek, Bamford, Adams)

    2 free transfers.

Thinking Salah to Son as one of them with the view to do the opposite move for DGW19.

Then maybe Adams out for Fabio Silva as the other ft.

    Thoughts?

Seems solid mate, but I wouldn’t get Fabio in. Seems like it would be for the sake of having another GW18 player. Fabio (and Wolves) don’t score! You don’t want him.

Yeah it would mainly be to make up the numbers but I guess going into DGW19 with two frees would be a better option.

Current BGW Team - Free Hit or not? 1 FT. Happy to minus 8 points, making it 9 players to field assuming all start.

    Martinez
    Kilman, Wan Bissaka
    Son, Fernandes
    DCL, Kane

Kilman unlikely to start it seems!

I will have 8 starting personally. The GW will be damage limitation. So long as you have the solid premiums then you’re unlikely to fall far.

BGWs are always over hyped. There will be a low average. Realistically how many more points would you get from adding 4 players on FH? I reckon 15 best case scenario. My FH is worth more to me than that and I will use it to better effect (hopefully) at a later point in the season when most managers have already used theirs in GW18.

-8 fielding 9. So FH obviously wipes out the -8, and gives you 2 more players, and a better team over all. Might be a good case for FH.

      Free hit for me.

Depends if you you feel a free hit further down the line will add more value, but if you keep it, it ocukd quite easily end up being a wasted chip.

    Martinez (Johnstone)
    Dias Stones Dier (Coufal) (Struijk)
    Saka KDB Fernandes (Salah) (Soucek)
    Kane Wilson (Bamford)

I currently have 9 players, should I make a transfer this week?
Salah to Rashford/Son/Auba then transfer him back or save the transfer to get rid of Wilson and potentially Dier or Kane in GW19?

I'm currently thinking to BB in GW 19.

Agree with Shirkov, but can you afford to do Salah Rashford switcheroo? I would do it but have 0m ITB so wouldn’t be able to get Salah back again.

Thanks, so that is an issue, I have 0.1M ITB. If Salah drops, then I can afford to do it.

However if I do transfer out Salah and get him back in, it's likely I'll transfer out Wilson and get a cheaper DGW like Wood/Adams/Rafinha for a 4.

I'm still waiting a bit. I can make my desired team with still 0.5 ITB, so not worried too much about price rises.

The announcement about sport continuing won't stop individual teams canceling fixtures like we've already seen.

Still holding off. Very easy to just downgrade someone like Tierney to Holding for cash if required.

The benefit of saving far outweighs using it just now.

There could be an outbreak at any team over the next week or so, so best to wait until as close to deadline as possible.

Rashford last 5 games: 32 points

Rashford has better fixtures moving forward

Rashford isn’t even in the same league as Son imo, he isn’t a bad pick but I wouldn’t lose Son to facilitate it.

The guy top of my ML has 50 points in mr in second and a 20k OR but has used FH and BB already, both with good success frustratingly and it does make you wonder why you wait to use chips for special GWs given how often they’re a let down.

I’ve got all chips and can field 6 starters with 3 poor/rotation risks this week. What would be my best plan of attack? Is it possible to WC a team this week and field a decent 11 that can then be BB’d next week? My squad as it stands has 7 DGW players so if I was to use FH this week I’m not set up very well for a BB or anything next week.

    Appreciate any advice 🙂

Team looks ok without a FH. I play WC will field 9/10 players gw18 and most squad will play 2 games gw19

Using chips in a Sgw can work but its rare. Just like capping a defender will work for some at times. Lets see how he does in the blank week now and whenever u use ur Bb

I think on average using FH in a bgw has more success. Youre far less likely to get a red arrow than when u use it in a normal week

I used it on a SGW last season and got a huge red arrow. Went without KDB who got a haul at emirates

Thise going without Salah this week wont have to worry about it

Always used it on a BGW before last season and reverting to that strategy again becuase its always resulted in a green arrow

Either him or maybe Saka. Both pivotal to their respective teams' attack

For the attention of Salah owners with no KDB and no FH....

What's your plan for GW 18 and 19? I can't be the only one on this boat.

Have FH but saving it, I’m doing this:

      GW18:
      Salah to KdB
      Cresswell to Cancelo

      GW19:
      Son to Salah
      DCL to Brewster/Davis

so effectively will just have Kane as a Spurs asset for GW19.

        Interesting. Thanks!

Thinking salah to kdb this week.

Was thinking of then dcl out funding son to salah...but I don't have soucek as a 5th mid.

      Not using FH.

      Salah -> KDB

Bring him back for Son or Grealish next week.

I was set on FH18 until Salah blanked

Worth doing Balbuena and Salah to Stones and KDB (-4) having 8 players for BGW18 and saving FH?

    1FT 0.2itb
    Martinez*
    Holding* Cancelo* Balbuena
    Son* Bruno* Salah Raphinha
    Kane* Rodrigo Bamford
    (Johnstone Robbo Soucek Coufal)

Will Salah and KDB change price tonight? What you think? They are both on around 90%.

I want to watch the City game tomorrow before do the switch, why people are so impatient I don't get it.

Can't blame the masses. If they were both ticking along at that price point...ppl might be patient.

But Everytime one blanks, the other explodes...really frustrating. Plus media is gushing over KDB now.

FHs may be skewing the figures, plus I think they do a bit of jiggery-pokery in BGWs/DGWs, so I would be a little less confident of the FPL Statistics predictions than I normally am.

Probably. Which is very frustrating as I would much prefer to wait before doing my Salah -> KDB switch, will need the cash for Cancelo - who is also rising.

For my FH GW 18 I’m looking at taking a risk as the team will revert back and if it goes wrong I don’t feel the repercussions.

      Thinking
      Darlow
      Maguire AWB Cancelo Dias Fernandez

      Bruno KDB son grelish

      Kane

      Sub Wilson Smith Rowe brewster

      Any feedback?? Anything missing badly??

What is the minimum number of players you could live with and save the FH chip for later? Currently on 3 with a FT which means FH this week is pretty much a given for me.

Not FH team, good enough? I have 1FT and 2.3 ITB to make a change.

      Martinez
      Stones Mitchell Lamptey
Kdb (c) Bruno Son Grealish Neto
      Kane Brewster

If i dont use the FT, i can do:
Son + Neto > Salah + Soucek for free for DGW19.

      Cheers

        Leno(foster)
        Dier stones(robertson Cresswell Ferguson)
        KDB grealish (salah soucek bissouma)
        Kane DCL (Bamford)

7 playing 2 FT 0.3 ITB. All chips available.
How do I use my free transfers to maximize it for the next 2 weeks.
        Thanks in advance

What if I have only 5 players for GW18.

        Stones
        Son Fernandes
        Wood Kane

Should I wait to press the FH Button or i rather do it now.

Make the team you want. If you still have 0.3-4+ ITB. You don't really need to rush it

I meant if you have 0.3+ left AFTER you make your desired FH team, you don't need to be worried about being priced out of it

                    Tierney Baily Stones
                    Saka KDB Son Bruno
                    DCL Wilson Kane

This leaves me . 6 ITB. Good?

            Terrible season, at 755k OR.
Shields and swords...would you leave Kane out on FH and go with Sterling or "play it safe" and just have KDB Son and Kane and try to gain rank by other positions like Wilson and Arsenal guys?

              In same position.

Likes of Rashford Sterling vs Kane. I like the fixture of City more, and if I was 100proc sure Sterling would start Id picked him.

              Now not too sure.
