Win a share of €50,000 in FanTeam’s Gameweek 18 Midweek Monster

Sponsored by FanTeam

There are big prizes to be won in FanTeam‘s latest Midweek Monster – their own version of the upcoming Fantasy Premier League Free Hit mayhem.

There is a €50,000 prize pool in the Gameweek 18 round with the outright winner set to take home €5,000.

There are a total of 3,500 entry slots to be claimed, which can be all yours for a buy-in of €20.00.

And with fewer matches than usual this time around, it’s much easier to go into Gameweek 18 without worrying who you have decided to omit from your squad.

How does FanTeam’s scoring work?

FPL managers looking for a way to make their knowledge pay are sure to enjoy FanTeam‘s Gameweek 18 €50,000 Midweek Monster.

It is effectively a Free Hit competition, which runs every week. So if you’re confident in the temporary squad you’ve built in FPL, why not test it against other FanTeam managers too?

As you can see from the information above, there are a number of similarities between FPL and FanTeam in terms of scoring for various positions registering different attacking and defensive returns.

While there are no bonus points, there are some interesting differences in terms of deductions, which include losing points for giving away penalties and free-kicks that are scored directly.

Meanwhile, there are additional adjustments depending on the result, players earning or losing points depending on whether or not their spell on the pitch saw their side winning or losing.

WHO ARE THE KEY PLAYERS THIS WEEK?

My entry for the Midweek Monster involves a big focus on the expensive attacking players, especially those on offer at Arsenal.

Alexandre Lacazette (€13.3m) has four goals in his last four matches while only one Premier League player has registered more shots on target in that time too.

I fancy Emile Smith Rowe (€11.4m) to help create the Frenchman’s chances against Crystal Palace, who have just two clean sheets this season.

The midfield man has created six chances in the last four matches, bested only by Kieran Tierney during that time among Arsenal assets.

Kevin De Bruyne (€15.0m) could be a false nine again against Brighton, who strike me as the sort of side who won’t sit back and defend their penalty box in a deep block at the Etihad Stadium.

The Belgian has five attacking returns in his last five at home in the Premier League.

Bruno Fernandes (€14.0m) is an incredibly reliable asset away from home in the league this season. In seven road trips thus far, the Manchester United man has six goals and five assists.

Meanwhile, Burnley have conceded more than three times in three of their four meetings with the so-called ‘big seven’ this season (Leicester, Chelsea, Manchester City).

Sheffield United are the only side without a clean sheet in the Premier League this season, so I expect Callum Wilson (€9.0m) to enjoy Tuesday’s trip to Bramall Lane.

The Newcastle forward has two goals and two assists in his last four Premier League matches against sides in the bottom half of the table.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United remain the division’s lowest scorers so DeAndre Yedlin (€6.2m) is someone I’m willing to take a chance on for a clean sheet.

I certainly don’t think Robert Sanchez (€4.6m) or Joël Veltman (€3.9m) will keep one against Manchester City but their prices, considering their high chances of starting, were too good to ignore when looking to make allowances for more lavish spending elsewhere.

However, I am expecting big things from Romain Saïss (€7.9m). While Wolves have struggled for clean sheets recently, their Moroccan international has provided excellent goal threat.

Over his last four matches, no FPL defender has registered more shots in the box, his four efforts on target also the best in his positional classification.

Those numbers have produced two goals in that time, while Everton are in the bottom four for headed attempts on goal conceded since Gameweek 14.

I realise we need to play what’s in front of us, but I haven’t played FPL in six years.

Over the last few years in BGWs, what’s the fewest number of games that have occurred in a week?

You are quite right, despite (or because of) spending an unhealthy amount of time on here I had in my mind the original fixtures before additions (and now likely subtractions)

          Thank you.

Seems like there’s a better than 50/50 risk that there will be a more restrictive BGW later in the season?

On wc myself and think I’m going to play safe and get McGuire, I know there is the yellow card thing but he is 100% nailed, not injury prone and will get some a goal or 2 as well

C would have Laca up top only for 18. Becomes Vardy in 19. All three options will have Vardy in 19. A and B will be 3 4 3 in 19 with Saka/ ESR on bench. C will be 3 5 2 in 19 with Davis on bench.

Depends if you on Wildcard or Free hit chip - they are both have Free Transfers
Unlimited this is what is my screen for Free hit chip.

If you doing a normal transfer then a player can get injured or ill so would be waste.

I had planned to take a hit this week to field 10 and most likely TC in 19... This Villa thing is really annoying me, not for 18, i mean. i'll just likely FH this week to fix that, but I feel if they cant play 18 theres a reasonable chance they wont play 19 and that has far larger repercussions for me... would mean City down to 1 game and Everton no game either... Thats 6 of my starters either blanking or reduced to a single game. God I wish i had the seemingly normal ability to not let FPL stress me out.

Quite happy with my FH team, but have constructed one with no spurs/villa which is much harder.

What do we think? Any good improvements people can think of?

This is my current team. Already done Salah to KDB and haven't activated the FH so will lose that transfer.

If I FH18 and BB19, I need to sort out Balbuena and bring in KDB so probably will have to take a few hits. Would prefer the spurs to play in 18 so I don't have to FH

FH if you're happy with your team for gw 19.
I'm in a similar situation with 6 players for a -4 after using my 2 FTs this week.
Looking to save my FH as I won't have the city players and will need his to get them back again next gw.

Taking a hit or 2 in GW18 can help set up my team in 19 but that is based on the current info. Unfortunately a lot can change and could easily have to take more hits in GW19

    6. CONNERS
      • 5 Years
      3 years, 2 months ago

Look at it this way. You'll likely have several weeks to prepare for the next blank and should therefore be able to field more than 6 without hits that week.

Currently, we are more than likely at 'peak-Covid' as far as interruptions are concerned. I think it's a good a week as any to use FH but will be waiting until the last hour before deadline to activate it.

    7. Ruth_NZ
      • 9 Years
      3 years, 2 months ago

Look, with triple City & Bruno you have the main bases covered, including your choice of the two best captains. That will be the core of any FH team anyway.

So, whether you should take one, two or even three hits entirely depends on what you intend to do in GW19 and on from there. If you would be getting players for GW18 only, that you'd want to quickly remove, then stand pat, take the red arrow and move on. If the players you'd add are ones you want from 19 onwards (or if FH19, from 20 onwards) then take as many hits as suits you; in this situation they will be cheap hits.

As for using the FH, well obviously it would help you. But it will help you whenever you use it. You have to balance the advantage you see in using it later against the advantage this week.

      1. Tonyawesome69
        • 5 Years
        3 years, 2 months ago

My previous thinking was to take 1-2 hits to bring in players that play both in 18 and DGW19 but with COVID changing plans very quickly and it doesn't seem like the right move anymore and to think past the next GW.

        1. Ruth_NZ
          • 9 Years
          3 years, 2 months ago

Sure, but you have to take a view. It isn't certain that Spurs/Villa won't play; if it was certain it would already be announced.

I can understand you resisting using the FH, put it that way. And I can also understand wanting to use the BB in GW19 if you can. Any road you choose could blow up under you, that applies whatever you do. So actually, to put the decision in the context of the whole season to come (we aren't even half way yet) is maybe one of the wisest things you could do?

def a risk right up to kickoff (if no confirmation given either way before then)

As far as i’m aware the deadline is around 28hrs before villa spurs is due to kickoff. So there’s a chance that if they wait until the last minute to postpone it’ll likely come after the deadline.
