McCarthy returns as Walcott starts up-front for Southampton

Alex McCarthy (£4.7m) returns to the Southampton side following his period of self-isolation.

Despite just one Double Gameweek 19 fixture, the goalkeeper is still owned by 19.5% of Fantasy managers who have only seen him miss one Premier League match this season – the Gameweek 17 win over Liverpool.

McCarthy faces a Leicester side that rested Jamie Vardy (£10.2m) and James Maddison (£7.1m) in the FA Cup although the entire Saints squad were not involved in the third round due to Shrewsbury’s recent coronavirus outbreak.

Danny Ings (£8.3m) is missing due to his own period of self-isolation which means Theo Walcott (£5.8m) moves forward to start as a striker alongside the returning Che Adams (£6.0m).

With a number of long-term absentees on the flanks, Will Smallbone (£4.4m) comes in to provide width with Stuart Armstrong (£5.5m) while Ibrahima Diallo (£4.5m) is in for Oriol Romeu (£4.5m).

Leicester keep faith with Timothy Castagne (£5.7m) and James Justin (£5.0m) in the full-back positions although Ricardo Pereira (£5.9m) is back on the bench after a considerable length of absence.

Çaglar Söyüncü (£5.3m) is also among the substitutes as he continues ramping up to full match fitness, which means another start at centre-back for Jonny Evans (£5.5m) and Wesley Fofana (£5.0m).

Leicester City XI (4-2-3-1): Schmeichel; Castagne, Fofana, Evans, Justin; Ndidi, Tielemans; H Barnes, Maddison, Albrighton; Vardy.

Southampton XI (4-4-2): A McCarthy; Bertrand, J Stephens, Bednarek, Walker-Peters; Smallbone, I Diallo, Ward-Prowse, Armstrong; Walcott, Adams.

At least we got Werner on FH.

Imagine getting him for a hit. LR must be going nuts.

He’s doubling down on his punts at the minute and it’s not coming off. A minus 8 and still playing Keenan Davis is pretty scandalous.

Also feel like he's basically ignored the DGW/BGW when that should be a ticket to major rank gains. Zoph handled it far better with a similar strategy

What happens if the goalie doesn't stop the ball? Then it's a goal. So this should be an assist in my opinion.

Pretty pathetic response about distancing from Mount. Don't wanna take the passion out of the game. Celebrating a ball in a net is more important than stopping the spread of a world-crippling virus is it, you privileged twit?

I don't really know what the effectiveness of social distancing is, given all the tests they go through and contact during the game, but he still needs to get his priorities right and demonstrate it to the world. Get some perspective etc.

Behave yourself. They get tested twice a week at least and are in a bubble whilst coming into close contact with team mates during training and games, this celebration thing is a nonsense and to appease the man in the street who can’t distinguish between a footballer in a bubble to them not being able to see family and friends

What do you mean? I didn't say they should be distancing (or that they shouldn't). That wasn't the point of my post.

His response indicated that the team's priority should be to hug each other, regardless of the implications or effectiveness of distancing.

And managers have backed up that sentiment by saying they think it's impossible for footballers not to hig and kiss each other in the moment of celebrations. Not very inspiring. We've reached the limit of human potential folks!

Think that was Pep? And another manager? I heard it from pundits so you're welcome to correct me.

It’s simply about the example of a public figure. Mount is a public figure. So are all footballers.

Not to mention that if he thinks the measures are good enough without restricting their celebrations, he could just say that instead of saying that celebrating was more important or too difficlut to stop. Unfortunately, I don't think many footballers will have put much thought into it, or how to respond to questions about it.

Has nothing to do with GK contact? A shot rebounded by keeper and then scored by another player is an assist in FPL.

That Liverpool example was not an assist either - I’m taking FPL assist

Mane blasted into the keepers chest and then Salah scored the rebound - no FPL assist given

Many contradictions have happened. So I understand the Chillwellian outrage - maybe they change it and give you some points and bonus

Probably his worst performance I've seen, certainly top 3. His pace is a real problem both forward and back, James will be back right away.

So I captained Antoni-gol, and you can imagine when he scored so early... thoughts back to that 4-0 demolition last season. Anyway, what points I missed out on from Johnstone and Taylor (Johnnyboy reportedly should be back for second game), I sort of offset by Frankie benching so many assets, and Chelsea being broadly rubbish anyway. Huzzah!

Will miss watching Ozil in the PL. He was fantastic for his first 3 or 4 seasons. A true artist, every touch, every pass made a different sound. Feels like the end of that kind of No.10, for now. Hopefully football goes back to appreciating these type of players than an attacking midfielder who runs around a lot.

He was an fpl demon when he first arrived and in 15/16.

Couldn't disagree more. Has absolutely taken the P the last 4/5 years.

You say it's end of that No.10 role - you only need to look at Bruno - he is everything Ozil should have been and more.

Are you kidding? Ozil would have broken the assist record if Giroud/Walcott didn't let him down time and time again. He had at least 3 very good seasons at Arsenal.

A kid who worked hard on his craft that he becomes a starter at 17 years of age, wins a trophy at Bremen, wins Madrid first league title in 4 years, helps Arsenal to end a 9 year drought, wins a World Cup with Germany, and bags of individual awards.

Bruno and Ozil are different kinds of attacking mids. Ozil is much better at keeping the ball and a better creator, Bruno a better goalscorer.

"At least 3 good seasons"..he's been there since 2013. Very talented player but awful attitude and that's why it will go down as a failure, particularly the last 5 years.

You forget how good Ozil was in his prime.
Bruno has achieved nothing compared to Ozil yet.
He also has to prove whether he can actually turn United into a winning club again. They have lost what, three domestic semis in a row?

World cup champion, Top assist in the WC, CL, La liga, EPL, UEL, Buli.

Bruno is a fantastic player but he is yet to achieve what Özil has already

Regardless of how good he was, he turned into a money grabbing leech who (like Bale I must add) Is the high end stereotypical modern footballer. Good riddance and I hope he never reaches his best form again to serve him right for his behaviour.

We don't really know what has gone on. It might be to do with him speaking out against china. He's cut his contract short and not taken a full pay off because he wants to play.

He'll get paid at his new job too, and I believe he has plans to make money in other ways when he moves too.

But I agree that we can't really judge without knowing what's happened, and even if we knew, it's not the same as being in the situation of the people involved. I know what it's like to have toxic working relationships, all the politics inside an organsitation, like a The Thick of It or a drama on a medieval monarchy, it can be a tricky mess, so we can hardly pretend we know enough to cast any aspersions.

Exactly. Just appreciate what he has done, this feels like the end of his career, most of us won't see him play again. The great and maybe last playmaker of the previous generation.

Arsenal are a despicable club that fired staff members in a pandemiconly to sign a garbage player like Willian, lying to players about the reason for wage cuts. They deserve it.

Hmm. We can all write our own narratives, pal. Strange that your narrative places significance on the quality of the player. If that's important, maybe those who were made redundant we also not good enough, given the club's future plans? They were clearly surplus to requirements.

How am I biased? Those emplyees were Arsenal as much as their employers were. I'm just talking about a organisation, regardless of my footballing affiliation. You're the one taking about them being Arsenal and that that means something to you (that they are a despicable club). My reply would apply to any club that have done the same thing.

I don't think Ozil did anything wrong. He never downed tools as far as I am aware of.
Not his fault Arsenal froze him out.
Fact that he is agreeing to terminating the contract instead of sitting it out is another thing to consider.
