Spurs switch to back five for Sheffield United game

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers will be hoping Jose Mourinho’s switch to a back five will provide a boost to Tottenham Hotspur’s well-owned attacking assets.

Deadly duo Harry Kane (£11.1m) and Son Heungmin (£9.7m) line up with a returning Steve Bergwijn (£7.0m) in attack for their game against Sheffield United in Double Gameweek 19.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (£4.8m) and Tanguy Ndombele (£5.9m) are selected in centre midfield.

Providing width to their side will be wing-backs Sergio Reguilon (£5.7m) and Serge Aurier (£5.2m).

Joe Rodon (£5.0m) is back in the heart of their defence with Ben Davies (£4.6m), along with stalwart Eric Dier (£5.1m).

French international Hugo Lloris (£5.6m) continues in goal, having started every game of the Premier League season so far.

Chris Wilder will be hoping his Blades side can build on their first win of the season against Newcastle with another impressive performance.

Out-of-position forward Oliver Burke (£4.4m) starts up- front with top-six slayer David McGoldrick (£5.2m).

There are no changes in midfield, with John Fleck (£5.6m), John Lundstram (£4.9m) and Oliver Norwood (£4.6m) occupying the three spots.

The impressive Jayden Bogle (£4.3m) continues at right wing-back, with Enda Stevens (£5.0m) returning on the left,

Chelsea loanee Ethan Ampadu (£4.3m) who picked up maximum Bonus Points in their last game, is alongside Chris Basham (£4.6m) and John Egan (£4.7m) at centre-half.

Aaron Ramsdale (£4.6m) keeps his place in goal.

Sheff Utd XI: Ramsdale; Basham, Egan, Ampadu, Bogle, Stevens; Lundstram, Norwood, Fleck; McGoldrick, Burke

Spurs XI: Lloris; Aurier, Rodon, Dier, Davies, Reguilon; Hojbjerg, Ndombele, Bergwijn, Son; Kane

Not about total points, about how much you pay for them.
11 points per million. I doubt many will captain him.
You will need to make compromised across your entire team to accommodate.
Son 14 points per million (rounding his price up).
Cresswell 15 points per million, so people are probably not getting in a Cresswell and going cheaper so fit Kane in.
          Dallas 15 points per mil

Yes i understand that also makes Bruno & Salah poor value.

That logic is relatively sound but does not counter SIF's statement; rather, it complements/counters the line of reasoning that 'Kane is poor value', without factoring in the captaincy..

If you pick the 15 best value players you’d have 10m or so spare so at some point you need to look at pure points over value.

Kane would actually be in that 15 btw.

Okay, I don't know if that reply was meant for me or Sif. You're still countering the argument that 'Kane is poor value'. That said, Sif now seems to be arguing only that 'Kane is poor value' based on simple calculations.

In value he's behind a ton of other players people probably don't have in order to accommodate Kane in their team.

Yup but he's much more consistent than all of those, it's just not getting him allows you to have so many premium mids.

Yep, this. Its easy to just get fixated on something like value and PPM, but this game is about the balace. If you built a team of all the best PPM players this season you'd be way behind. The premiums are needed for their huge hauls of points, the value players need to be acquired in addition. Kane is a premium player with a points total reflecting his price

That's really a mistake. He needs to be captained sometimes, not every week. Premiums don't work on points/£m, the only things that matter with them are points and predictability.

If you want to argue that having too many premiums is counter-productive, I'd tend to agree with that. But this season there are a lot of very high-value cheap players that are worth their salt, so having an extra premium attacker could be a valid approach.

        1. Sif
          • 10 Years
          3 years, 2 months ago

I was typing something like this, a couple poor value premium players you can reply on to captain and boost their value.
This week Kane's value will be even poorer, he will be outscored by so many players costing half his price.

I didn't say owning Kane is not a valid strategy. My statement was simple, If people can't use a calculator that's their fault.

          1. Deulofail
            • 8 Years

You're using a executive calculator instead of using your executive function to figure out why Kane can't be poor value if the the highest scoring team might own him. You're calculating value your own basic way with your calculator (or FPL's 'form'), but it's not really helping is it?

            1. Deulofail
              • 8 Years

Let's simplify game. You are given 10m to spend on one player for the season. Kane costs 10m. Bamford costs 9m. Who is the better value player? I would argue that Kane is the best pick, obviously, but also that he is the best value. The most points you can get for 10m is Kane, rather than Bamford +1m. So far, you seem to have implied that Kane is necessarily poor value, fogetting that we have a budget that we must spend to GET the best value. Investing 10m of your budget in the bank won't work as we don't get interest! 😀

Everyone knows that ppm does not favour premiums, however if you have three premiums and cap all fairly equally, you don't need to catch many hauls for that equation to totally change

Harry Kane's game by numbers vs. Sheffield United:

Makes me chuckle a bit when folks complain about him 'dropping deep'. The things he does in that area of the pitch always helps with his bonus, coupled with him not doing many things to pick up -baps.

You only have to see Harry's stats to see why he frequently gets 3 baps. Hes not just a goal scorer/penalty taker. He creates , defends and takes defenders on. He deserves his baps. He gives his best every week. If you dont want to own him, dont, but leave him to those of us who do. I will just keep taking his points, with the odd goalfest. 12 goals and 11 assists speaks for itself.

Strikers get more BPS for goals in compensation for the fact they only get 4 points a goal, it’s not complicated.

There was a period recently where Vardy out-pointed Kane. Best is owning Kane, moving to Vardy around the Sheff Utd game for ~6weeks, then jumping back to Kane in time for the Leeds game ;). Admittedly I just shipped Kane this gw though for Antonio, but thats so far equal

Kane bps are pretty easy to explain.

      1) He scored
      2) He created a big chance for Son
      3) He scored the winning goal
      3) He made a lot of passes (unusual for a forward)
      5) He played over 60 mins
      6) He did shoot wide / over a bit, but (2) and (3) more than negate that

      1. diesel001

Kane is one of the few strikers who generally deserves his baps as he scores and does other stuff as well like create chances, loads of build up passes, often makes a fair amount of defensive work (tackles, defensive headers/clearances).

Its a much bigger joke that Antonio got max baps yesterday, but you dont see people complaining because most owned him for that.

        Alioski -> Mitchell
        Zouma -> Stones

Should make up the -8 in no time? Stones in for strong City fixtures, Vardy injury/fitness doubt, Leeds looking off etc.

        Cheers

Wouldn’t make any moves this long before the next deadline, no matter how good they look on paper.

Joe Rodon looks solid every time he plays.

He's been very good. Useful on the right of a back three as he can bring the ball out too.

Judging by his season, he should make it through this GW unscathed.

Should have sold him and kept Podence 🙁 At least he is on my bench that isn't boosted.

agreed - espcially given that a lot of transfers out incurred hits and lost value

Next time someone says Good Luck at the start of a GW, I'll tell them to stick it where the sun don't shine. Why? Look at all those who want KDB benched! Hypocrites. 😀

That Liverpool defence looks awful, if United counter well on the break they can win this.

Even once fit Matip can’t be relied upon, am amazed Klopp hasn’t gone out to sign a decent CB in this transfer window so far.

They dont even need a decent CB, just a competent one. A signing like Spurs signing of Rodon would make the world of difference right now. Playing Fab in defence also weakens their midfield
