What effect will Ross Barkley’s return have on Villa’s attacking assets?

Aston Villa’s first Premier League match back since their first-team squad was forced to isolate due to a COVID outbreak saw Ross Barkley (£5.9m) return to their midfield.

Barkley took the place of Anwar El Ghazi (£5.8m), with Jack Grealish (£7.7m) moving out into a wide position.

After a strong showing against Manchester City in Gameweek 19, the former Chelsea player looks to have slotted back into the side with ease.

But with so many Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers owning Villa assets like Grealish and Ollie Watkins (£6.1m), how will this affect their points potential?

Kdb + Raphinha to Maddison + Rashford for a hit?

I don't think Rashford should be under consideration. If Martial gets injured and he's back on the left, he's much more likely to get returns.

I do! Purely from a chance perspective. His form has been poor and he has been missing some good opportunities but in saying that he is getting the opportunities and has now had a rest. He looked knackered recently, I think he will hit a purple patch purely based on my own opinion from what I’ve seen.

I'm a diehard Man Utd fan recently and Rashford has been really poor recently. No idea about stats, just completely failing the eye test.

is getting Jesus in here plain stupid? I could do a -8 which would be Dallas, KDB & Wood > Cancelo, Grealish & Jesus.

    Leaves me with:

    Johnstone
    Maguire / Cancelo / Stones
    Son / Salah / Grealish / Fernandes
    Bamford / Antonio / Jesus

    McCarthy / Soucek / Coufal / Targett

Simple answer, yeah. Pep has said sometimes against certain opposition they don't need to play with a CF. Avoid Jesus!

Yes especially for a -8. Unlikely to pay off. Jesus hasn't had any form this season and is always subject to pep roulette (Bilva looking good as a false 9 right now)

The template move would be just KDB to Grealish/Gundo and play Dallas with Coufal from your bench

thanks all. agree its pretty daft and unneccessary risk.

keen to get in a second city defender, maybe i'll do one of my defenders to cancelo and kdb to gundo / grealish

    Martinez (McCarthy)
    Dias Justin Cresswell (Alioski Holding)
Salah Bruno KDB El Ghazi Gundogan
    Antonio Vardy (Brewster)

Unsure of what to do. Initial plan was Vardy to Ings and one of El Ghazi / Gundogan to Maddison, and then decide on losing someone to get Zaha in for GW22. KDB injury (and Gundo form) means I'll keep Gundo and lose KDB but not sure where to go from there. Will wait to see if he plays tomorrow but seems likely now El Ghazi will be dropped or at least a rotation risk and Villa have good fixtures so I'm thinking I need Grealish, but KDB injury leaves me an option to get Kane back in for Brewster while keeping Vardy but it's not enough to get Zaha or Grealish.

What I can do is Salah and Brewster > Grealish / Zaha and Kane now (I can afford one price drop for KDB without losing value but can't afford one for Salah) and then move KDB to the other player next week. Is that the best option? I still feel like maybe I ought to give Salah one more game but at the same time it's been weeks since they've looked decent so I really don't know what the best move here is.

    tldr,
    A) Vardy + KDB > Ings + Maddison and then next week El Ghazi > Zaha
    B) Salah + Brewster > Grealish + Kane and next week El Ghazi > Zaha

I'm currently thinking Son or Gundo as the replacement. Not sure how Gundo will be affected with no KDB. Will he have to play deeper which is a negative affect of the KDB injury? The plus side is that he is on pens

I should probably save but owning Sterling makes me uncomfortable and I could downgrade and upgrade defence or fifth mid with the cash. Still likely to save though.

    Martinez
    Cancelo, Dias, Cresswell
    Sterling, Bruno, Son
    Kane, Vardy, Bamford

    Forster Soucek/Mitchell, Amartey, James4.3mid

Have to play one of Soucek/Mitchell

    Martinez
    Robbo Cancelo Dias
    Salah KDB Bruno Grealish Raphinha
    Antonio Bamford

    (Steer Cresswell Mitchell Brewster)
    1 FT & 0.3m

    A) KDB ➡️ Gündo
(Brewster to Kane/Vardy or Raphinha to Son next week)
    B) KDB ➡️ Son

Thoughts? Any other transfers to consider?

Both of those moves will be among the most popular that serious FPL managers make. Very dull and boring but as usual, the optimal path is already there for you to follow and you don't even need to think for yourself.

Yeah it is definitely a boring move but those two I feel are the standout replacements. Rash, Pogba, Maddison, Barnes etc all feel more like punts.

That's not a huge problem though you could downgrade Robbo soon and upgrade one of those mids to Grealish.

    6. rubberdignerapids

A if you're going with the herd, fairly safe, if KDB is defo out then should also take pens
B if you believe Liverpool's poor form will continue and that their possession play with favour Son's break on the counter
      C...Other Considerations:

There's also Maddison (although frankly takes his shots from outside, but you can bring him in based on form- 3 on the trot, and in his post match interview said he had been working on rushing into the pen box on the training ground.

Grealish, but I'd wait until the Newcastle game to see if he picks up another yellow and is subsequently banned and not an option this coming gw

Rashford, out of form, not passing the eyetest, but has now been rested and a gamble could pay off as a diferential

Sterling, not passing the eyetest, but scored a nice FK- maybe his form will pick up, but expensive risk and subject to Pep Roulette and now not getting KDB supply

      1. Karan14
        • 7 Years
        3 years, 2 months ago

Maddison, Rashford & Sterling just don't fill me with confidence.

Gundo (enables Kane) & Son are my top priority as I need captaincy options in GW21 & 23 and Spurs seems to have the best fixtures in those gameweeks.

Cheers for the detailed reply mate!

No worries- I think we all have been asking that same KDB question as you- I'm swaying towards Gundo and Rashy (as a punt as I'm not feeling Soucek) for this gw myself

Few issues with KDB & DCL here. Bench is fairly strong though. Got 1FT, 0.1itb. KDB >> Gundo and then get Kane next week seems the obvious move right??

I know, very frustrating, but with KDB & Aguero out, he should start at least 2 of the next 3. I think it's a gamble, but could pay off.

Gundo due to pens but I'm not sure how he will be affected in open play and no KDB in the team. He may have to play deeper as a result.

I once had Reece James, then Lampard decided to bench him. So I dropped James. Then Lampard decided to play him again. I now have Zouma who has been benched. I'm going to drop him this week. What will happen?

    KDB+DCL >> Gundo+Kane (-4) if both ruled out?

    McCarthy
    Robbo, Dias, Coufal,
    Salah, Bruno, KDB*, Raphina
    Antonio, Bamford, DCL*
    (Johnstone, Lowton, Soucek, Dallas)

I think we can save several hundred posts by simply saying KDB injured > sell for Gundog or Son.

Or go Maverick! Then tell us how mad you are.

What to do with this WC team?

    Martinez
    Coufal - Dias - Stones - Shaw
    Bruno - Grealish - KdB*
    Vardy - Bamford - Antonio

Bench: Son - Smith Rowe - Mitchell - Forster

    Do I:
    A) Start KdB, hope he plays, if not I get Son off the bench
    B) Switch KdB to either Sterling/Gundo/Maddison/Rashford
    C) Downgrade KdB in order to upgrade Antonio to Kane

Cheers in advance - and if you've got any other opinions on the team, please let me know!

I know it's a couple of weeks ago but as it stands right now, who are you captaining in Gameweek 22?

I'm guessing Fernandes v Southampton will be popular.

I'm still eyeing up Salah v Brighton!

Morning all, best moves here with 1FT and 0.3m itb

    Martinez
Stones • Cancelo • Coufal --- Dallas Taylor
    Kdb • Salah • Bruno • Rashford -- Burke
    Antonio Bamford Wilson

Plan to remove Kdb, Rashford, Wilson over the next 2/3 gw's. Best options

    A: Grealish + Son + Kane
    B: Grealish + Son + Vardy + 0.5m
    C: Sterling + Son + Watkins + 1m
    D: Something else
